AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas backup quarterback Jevan Snead will transfer, school officials announced Friday night, leaving the Longhorns with no experienced quarterback behind the injured Colt McCoy for their bowl game.

McCoy, who severely pinched a nerve in the final seconds of a 12-7 loss to Texas A&M, has not yet been cleared by team doctors for whichever bowl game selects Texas, although team trainer Kenny Boyd said Friday he is "progressing extremely well."

"Colt is a great quarterback, and I enjoyed working with him and all the guys on the team," Snead said in a statement released by the school. "Texas is a great place to be. I just think that for me to reach my goal of being a starting quarterback, I need to go somewhere else."

The statement did not say where Snead, a freshman, planned to attend.

Texas is likely headed to either the Gator or Alamo bowls. McCoy's backup for the bowl game would be senior walk-on Matt McCoy, no relation, who has never thrown a pass in a game.

Two of Texas' top receivers, Quan Cosby and Billy Pittman, were standout quarterbacks in high school. Cosby was a USA Today high school All-American at Mart in 2000 before signing a minor league baseball contract.

Texas also has freshman QB Sherrod Harris but has redshirted him this season.

Snead was one of Texas' top recruits when he backed out of an oral commitment with Florida and signed with the Longhorns in February. He enrolled in time for spring practice but couldn't beat out redshirt freshman Colt McCoy for the starting job.

Snead completed 26 of 49 passes for 371 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. His most extensive action came in a 45-42 loss at Kansas State. McCoy was hurt on the first drive, and Snead played the rest of the game.

McCoy has passed for 2,262 yards and a school-record 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Also transferring are sophomore defensive end Chris Brown and sophomore offensive tackle Greg Dolan, both of whom have seen limited action at Texas.

"All three guys told us they had a great experience, but they felt their best opportunity for more playing time was to transfer," coach Mack Brown said. "That's totally understandable, and we appreciate everything they did for our program during their time here. We wish all three the best of luck in the future."

I'm interested to see where he ends up.

By the way, keep in mind that McCoy is a redshirt freshman and they have a 5-star QB Brantley commit in the class of 2007.
Snead was rankled as the #3 dual-threat QB in the class of 2006 by Rivals, behind Tebow and Demetrius Jones who ended up at Notre Dame.
Meanwhile, McCoy was only a 3 star in the class of 2005 and ranked as the #15 pro-style QB in that class.

This does not need its own thread.................just stupid.

Bite me. He was one of the top QB's in his class and will likely be a huge factor on whichever team he ends up on after sitting out a year. It's also big for the Texas bowl game since there isn't an experienced QB behind McCoy who has been fragile in his last few games.

Someone who once bumped the "Lions interested in Casey Printers" thread has very little say in which topics do or do not require their own thread.

Honestly...I agree with Filly..not that it isn't interesting, but who really honestly gives a flying fuck what goes on with Texas backup QB's. Sure, I'm interested to know where he goes, but since he has absolutely NO chance of going to UM or MSU, then this thread really is pointless.

2 other Texas kids say their on the way out too.

I wouldn't mind if MSU found a home for the 3, I'm sure they're better than some of the scrubs we have. Unlikely they want to come this far north though.

TCU has to be begging them, same with SMU, Rice, etc. though.

This deserves its own thread, Snead is a great QB who got snubbed by McCoy since he knew the offense. If Snead goes to Oklahoma, things could get interesting.

Yeah, that would be, interesting.

Same with if Stoops goes Pro or something.

I live in Big 12 Country. My sources say Snead is going to end up at TCU. I just thought you guys would be very interested to know that.
You're probably wondering who my "sources" are. Well, one of them is my neighbor Art.
