It seems as if he is on the trading block with Memphis tanking right now. For some reason, only Boston and Chicago seem to be interested. When he gets back from injury he could turn a team around.

Any guesses as to where he ends up?

(Obviously a pipe dream, but he'd look good wearing red, white and blue.)

Rumor has it that he taking advantage of his time off with the injury to film a sequel to Serpico.

Also, I don't think they'll trade him.

If we can't resign Chauncey, i'm thinking Sheed and Chauncey for Gasol, Atkins, Warrick and a pick. Not sure if i'd do it but it would be an interesting trade.

Nazr and Dice for Gasol, perhaps -- something like that?

Definitely no reason for Memphis to go that route when they can stock themselves for the future with young talent and picks through Chicago or Boston. In fact, I don't see anyone else who can give those two a run, besides maybe a Golden State.

Rickey Paulding, Rodney White and two 4th round conditional picks.

Any trade for Gasol would include 2 of our young guys, Maxiell, Delfino, or Johnson and on top of that orlando's pick, and then most likely Sheed.

I'm not sure if thats worth the price...

Yeah, I shot low. Let's try:

McDyess +
(Nazr or DD, depending on how badly they want a young serviceable C signed long-term vs. cost-cutting) +
(FlipM or Delfino, their choice but hopefully FlipM and they could use a guard more than another swingman) +
higher of our 2007 two 1st rounders +
(maybe) another non-2007 1st rounder
for Gasol (+ whatever crap they want to dump on us so we can waive)

Memphis instantly get some PF/C and guard sorts that can play at a high level today, contract lengths that are useful for their needs, and some ok future picks. We free up room for JMax and Amir, and clear up the FlipM/Delfino bottleneck. Oh, and our starting 5 becomes supremely wicked...

It's a fanboy trade, no doubt. I can dream.

quite frankly, we dont have the goods unless you want to lose a key contributor (dyess and nazr dont fit that category). we cant scrap together shit and hope to outbid a team like chicago, who has way more expendable assets than we did when we got sheed.

I also dont think he'll get traded

If we were to trade him, Sheed or Nazr/dice would DEF be gone.

But we all can agree that a Tay/Sheed/Gasol frontline would be damn near unstoppable.

i'd like it, but i think we'd have to give up rip + picks or chauncy + ? (not sure what his worth is right now).

It really depends on what Memphis wants. In my mind, the only reasons to dump Gasol are:

1) Marquee value: They want someone who can put butts in seats and Spanish boy with beard isn't it. They trade for Vinsanity, AI, maybe TMac or someone "dynamic", assuming they'd put butts in seats. Maybe AI. I dunno.

2) Cost-cutting: They want to cut costs, but they want something in return for a stud. The problem is, they can't just get a trade-able "star" rookie (e.g. Darko) they'll have to pay big bucks for in a year or two, and picks won't let them win some in the meantime.

So why did people think he is on the block exactly? Was there some story behind that?

I don't see why a team would trade a 20 and 10 young player.

It's being reported by ESPN. Obviously that doesn't hold a lot, but it's there. Memphis is playing poorly now, so ESPN decides that they must be preparing to rebuild.

I don't agree with ESPN then. You build around Gasol. Move Damon, Eddie, whoever for picks (they won't fetch great picks though) and rebuild. You don't trade your best player.

I think I saw it on the Detroit News or Free Press

Memphis is categorically denying that Gasol will be dealt.

Their owner says that if he calls the Cavs and asks for LeBron, that he thinks the media should report that the Cavs are looking to deal him too.

From the rumors I heard, the higher-ups just don't think they'll ever be able to contend for a title with him as their leader. He's just not that kind of player in their eyes (more of a Lamar Odom I guess). Add to that the fact that Hakim Warrick is playing pretty damn well as his replacement and you have yourself a fun new superstar-on-the-trade-block rumor.

well...if they want Dyess/Nazr, orlando's pick and delfino/flip then you can sign me up. i just don't see them moving him.
