View Full Version : UM still #2!!! DennyMcLain 11-19-2006, 04:14 PM 2. Michigan .926 3. USC .919 ...or something like that. Rematch? Moodini31 11-19-2006, 04:18 PM That's freaking great, and it's the way it should be. It's clear that Michigan is the #2 team in the country. We're #2 right now, but it's all going to come down the the ND-USC game. I think if USC wins, they go to the BCS title game, even though they lost to unranked Oregon State (whack!). I believe coming down to the final play against Ball State = Oregon State loss. You know what would be even more whack, having #1 play #2, call it the game of the century, find out who the better team is, and then have it mean nothing because they'll just play again. Even better, maybe #2 wins this time resulting in a split. Then we'll give them the Championship trophy even though each team won 1. More whack? yes. DennyMcLain 11-19-2006, 04:34 PM I believe coming down to the final play against Ball State = Oregon State loss. Well played. A victory against #5 ND would surely make up enough ground to leapfrog UM. Thank gawd for computers. Blue Nation is pulling for UCLA, for sure. DennyMcLain 11-19-2006, 04:44 PM There's a lot of UM fans out here in Cali. It might be interesting to see how many attend either the ND game or the UCLA game rooting against Troy? Jethro34 11-19-2006, 07:43 PM The team that wins on a neutral field deserves the trophy. That's how NCAA basketball and pro football decide it. Meanwhile, you're giving it to Ohio State over a home field victory. And what twisted world do you live in that could ever count a victory and a loss as the same thing? Sparty football has done some messed up things to your brain. Daviticus 2.39 11-19-2006, 08:04 PM Seriously, the BCS controversies every year are really frustrating me... I can see why a lot of people turn away from college football for the NFL. Even though the games are more exciting. Black Dynamite 11-19-2006, 11:17 PM they turn back because its like crack though and in the end they dont change the format because people cant stop watching. arrogant on their part but to be expected. NCAA is more hypocritical than the nba. so i expect more bs bcs shit for years to come. b-diddy 11-20-2006, 12:32 AM even jesus couldnt make everyone happy. bcs is fine (though i'd prefer streight polls). computers just compute the formulas that everybody (somebody?) agrees on before the year. i think its a pretty good, unbiased system. way better than a playoff. though, playoffs=money, so its only a matter of time before we see them. bet on that. Black Dynamite 11-20-2006, 01:18 AM playoffs wont make as much money as bowls now. each bowl game has some serious money attached to it and most our like mini championships for the other teams, their students, and fans. the dejection of not being in the championship game is taken away and you still get a championship type atmosphere rather than people being sour after their team is ousted in a playoff. Money is the reason their is no playoff IMO. Theres more money in more people feeling like their game is "the" game in its own way from the capitol one to the rose bowl.. Do you honestly believe that? A playoff would easily double the amount of money that goes around. You wouldn't eliminate any of the little bowls that are insignificant to everyone whose team isn't playing in them. Those would still exist. A playoff would - on a simple level - just take the 8 BCS teams and the 4 major bowls and play them out as seeded matchups. You add three games and call it good. Tickets for a true, undisputable national championship game could easily sell for an extra $50 each (in a 100,000 seat stadium you're looking at $5 million EXTRA at the gate alone). Yet the money in the 4 major bowl games would NOT decrease, since each one has legitimate championship game implications. Black Dynamite 11-20-2006, 10:52 AM well i get what you're saying in that format. Dont know if the money is guaranteed to play out like that though. WTFchris 11-20-2006, 11:10 AM I believe coming down to the final play against Ball State = Oregon State loss. That argument is bogus. The only reason Ball State was that close is because Llyod doesn't blow people out like Bowden or Spurrier used to and pulled his starters. A close win only equals one thing...a win. OSU barely beat a couple crappy teams too (17-10 over Illinois). And most of USC's wins were close ones too, so who cares? Margain of victory is a lame arguement. Some teams rest starters and others pile on. Baker 11-21-2006, 11:06 PM That argument is bogus. Some teams rest starters and others pile on. Well, I believe the argument that Michigan is CLEARLY the 2nd best team is garbage too. USC fans are saying the same thing, so are Arkansas fans, and Florida fans, etc. etc. Is Michigan most likely the 2nd best, probably. But, we don't know that 100% sure because that can only be settled on the field. People have been certain about many things in sports only to be shocked with what takes place. USC lost to Oregon St. Okay, I get it...but OSU has been ranked for parts of the season. Florida lost...I get it, but it was to #5 Arkansas. The "we have the best loss" things is stupid. I understand the argument and would make the same one if I was a Michigan fan. When you break it down though, its really lame to argue who has the "best loss." In the end we don't know 100 percent sure that Florida or USC couldn't beat OSU. I wouldn't put money on it, but I feel like they deserve a shot. Even if it was away, Michigan got their shot. I feel like we should give one more team the chance of proving they are the best. detroitsportscity 11-21-2006, 11:32 PM Best wins should be the argument, not best loss. If you go 11-1`with 11 win over 1AA teams, and a close loss to #1 you don't deserve to be ranked as high as a 11-1 team with big wins, and a loss to some mediocre team. Moodini31 11-22-2006, 01:11 PM Florida lost...I get it, but it was to #5 Arkansas. Florida lost to 2 loss Auburn. Baker 11-22-2006, 02:04 PM Florida lost to 2 loss Auburn. Whoops, my bad. Auburn is still a good team and I still think you need to give another team a shot. |
