Fool 11-09-2006, 09:47 AM I haven't seen even one negative comment about this game. bangpow 11-09-2006, 09:54 AM That's because it's bad ass. I usually don't stray from the sports genre too much, but once in awhile something comes out that really piques my interest. GoW is such a game. theMUHMEshow 11-09-2006, 10:02 AM I hear it was over-hyped and Call of Duty 3 is better bangpow 11-09-2006, 10:15 AM I hear it was over-hyped and Call of Duty 3 is better I bet CoD 3 is just as good as GoW, it depends on what kind of war games you prefer. I'm not really into real life war sims all that much, I like more of the sci-fi kind of war games, like Doom and now GoW. I like being able to play deathmatches as the locusts and what not. And being able to pull of moves like cutting people up with a chainsaw as their close-to-death body is laying in front of me. Daviticus 2.39 11-09-2006, 12:22 PM This game plays out like a Cinematic movie, the characters are fucking hilarious. The commentary between your squad is great as you go through the game. Only problem is its a bit short I hear, I'll let you know when I beat it. bangpow 11-09-2006, 12:29 PM Plus, there's this great sense of satisfaction when a guy is laying in front of you, almost dead, then taking the chainsaw to him to finish him off. Daviticus 2.39 11-09-2006, 04:19 PM Or curb stomping them... Moodini31 11-09-2006, 05:10 PM Shooting games are repetitive, boring, and frustrating, but this game is getting amazing reviews. I may rent it once. DrRay11 11-09-2006, 07:46 PM Yeah, the buzz about this one is crazy. I'm definitely buying. Daviticus 2.39 11-10-2006, 02:33 AM Let me tell everyone right now, it is worth every penny. GREAT GAME MOLA1 11-10-2006, 08:42 AM This game constitutes it's own thread. I can not say enough about it. The hype train is not off track with this one. I bought it the first day it came out and popped it in. Moodini and I checked it out and I thought it was "good." I was playing single player. From what I understand, as you get more into it, it gets ridiculously better. But, I wasn't sure it was worth my $60. I was a minute away from making the worst video game decision of my life. I thought about trading it in for a different game. Before I did, I went to gamerankings.com to check it out more. I read reviews that were just unreal. I asked myself, "What am I missing about this game?" It just didn't seem as good as people were making it out to be. So I decided to pop it in online and play it online for the first time. OOOOOOOOOOH BABY BITCH! I was absolutely hooked and left Moodini about 6 annoying hype messages while checking it out. It is flat out unreal online and sooo addicting. This game is creeping up the charts and it has a chance to make my All Time list already. Before I popped it in yesterday, I watched an MTV special about the game. I've never seen more hype for a video game. One dude actually got a Gears of War tatoo on his freaking arm! If you don't have it, but it now and get online! Daviticus 2.39 11-14-2006, 04:31 PM It's a shame you don't like the single player game, sure it's light on story. But the game plays like a movie, and it never got boring. MoTown 11-14-2006, 04:35 PM I just started playing it because I purchased it last night - so far so good. Amazing graphics, fun gameplay. JickBoy34 11-14-2006, 05:10 PM I prefer the real life WWII type shooters, so I will roll with COD 3. I will check it out however just because of the hype it's receiving. Moodini31 11-14-2006, 09:14 PM It's really good, grapically it's probably the best game ever made and it feels like you're playing a movie. But I don't think it's the "system seller" that most people are making it out to be. Keep in mind, I haven't seen the online play yet, and I've been known to not be a big fan of "shooter games". Daviticus 2.39 11-14-2006, 10:02 PM I prefer the real life WWII type shooters, so I will roll with COD 3. I will check it out however just because of the hype it's receiving. These just get so damn repetitive, I seriously have killed 3,000,000,000 Nazis in the last 5 years. JickBoy34 11-15-2006, 12:44 AM I love killing Nazi's...and I love when they talk German to me because I yell back at them... bangpow 11-15-2006, 01:36 PM I figured I would mention on here that it looks like a couple of us from my site will be getting together at around 11 tonight to get some online action in. If anyone is interested, let me know. Baker 11-15-2006, 05:35 PM It's really good, grapically it's probably the best game ever made and it feels like you're playing a movie. Flat out amazing! geerussell 11-16-2006, 11:22 AM These just get so damn repetitive, I seriously have killed 3,000,000,000 Nazis in the last 5 years. Only 5 years? You're several million nazis and twenty years late to the game. (http://www.mobygames.com/game/castle-wolfenstein) Baker 11-18-2006, 07:38 PM Gears of War just became legendary. 94.9% on Gamerankings.com (a website which compiles all review ratings and makes an average) That makes GOW the #1 360 game and the #14 Video Game of All Time All Systems included. This will be one of those games we'll look back on years from now as a straight up CLASSIC. Moodini31 11-19-2006, 05:03 PM Trust me playa, when you see it online this week....you will get a whole new experience. Flat out amazing! You cats better watch out! [smilie=shootingsol: What the crap you waiting for?!!!! You claim to be a video game warrior, you've played it and were amazed by it, you own a 360 and its clearly the best game so far, GO GET IT!!!!!!!!! lol Get online while everybody is learning now. It's reeeeally good, but I'm still deciding. I'm not sure if I want to drop 60 bucks on a game where all you do is shoot, when I'm not really a "shooter guy". DrRay11 11-26-2006, 10:48 AM FF12 JickBoy34 11-26-2006, 11:44 AM I honestly was not that impressed...I just don't get flying high excited about a game when the only cool thing is the chainsaw. The online play is a joke because of the lack of game modes. COD 3 has been a bit of a disappointment as well, but i still would take that anyday over killing weird aliens and your only move being hiding behind something... COD 3 has been a bit of a disappointment as well, but i still would take that anyday over killing weird aliens and your only move being hiding behind something... I would have to say all in all, that is a pretty bad analysis of GOW, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. GOW has its obvious flaws, but it is the best game on the market right now. JickBoy34 11-29-2006, 07:43 AM Debate the analysis then...what makes it so good besides the fact that you are not killing nazi's. Daviticus 2.39 11-29-2006, 09:33 AM Debate the analysis then...what makes it so good besides the fact that you are not killing nazi's. Well number 1, the graphics are sick. The players movements are so smooth and the enemies are very intelligent, and their movements are incredibly realistic. number 2, the curb stomping, there is nothing more beautiful than downing a locust, or someone in multiplayer and standing over them when they can't do shit and then curb stomping their asses. The Chainsaw is bad ass too, along with sticking a grenade on someone and having to dive out of the way... number 3, the weapons, all are pretty basic, but things like the torque bow, magnum revolver, and hammer of dawn make this game even more sweet. I know the cover aspect is difficult to get used to, but its clear that you can't stand in the open and take bullets to the chest like a man like you can in first person shooters. blindfiring is sweet, and the game is very realistic about taking cover, flanking enemies, using grenades to flush people out, and all that good stuff. I'll give this game 9.4 out of 10. NoFlyZone 12-02-2006, 01:43 PM This game is like crack! I thought the single player mode was the perfect length at about 12-14 hours. To truly enjoy this game, play the whole game through on co-op over live with one of your friends. This game was setup with this in mind. I am having a lot of fun with this game. I beat it on casual, and I'm now going back through it and playing it on hardcore. I'm at ACT 5 now on there. As far as the online goes though, I'm liking it alot but not nearly as much as I'm enjoying Rainbow 6 online. Gears of War like previously mentioned is an instant classic. Tahoe 12-28-2006, 12:54 PM I'm just getting started on GOW. I think all the talk about it made it a little disapointing for me. Its sick, no doubt, but it seems to be a lot of things are just migrations from SC. SC is 1 and 2 are still my favs. Maybe gow will grow on me. Tahoe 12-29-2006, 01:43 PM And what really sucks is that I'm in the factory, fall through the floor and keep getting killed by those pesky little bastards. I'm going in with 350 rounds of machine gun ammo and haven't been able to get passed this for an hour. bangpow 12-29-2006, 01:58 PM And what really sucks is that I'm in the factory, fall through the floor and keep getting killed by those pesky little bastards. I'm going in with 350 rounds of machine gun ammo and haven't been able to get passed this for an hour. Ah, yes, that part. Actually, you can't just go straight ahead. You can kind of see where the weak spots are in the floor, the floorboards look a bit different. MoTown 12-29-2006, 02:40 PM Just walk, and as soon as you hear a slight crack, move backwards. You won't fall. Glenn 12-29-2006, 02:42 PM Just walk, and as soon as you hear a slight crack, move backwards. You won't fall. Oh, I've never actually "played the game". But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. MoTown 12-29-2006, 02:47 PM LOL [smilie=clap.gif] Tahoe 12-29-2006, 09:07 PM Thanks Bangpow and Mo T. It worked...of course. One of the things that I'm liking about GoW is that my son can sign in and we can both play, or either of us can continue the mission as a single player then both sign in again. Nothing like father and son bonding by shooting the hell out of stuff. Moodini31 12-30-2006, 02:45 PM I picked up Gears a few days ago and I like it A LOT more than I thought I would. I'm playing through on casual the first time and so far the game is really freaking tough. The reason I chose this game over COD3 and other shooters was because of the "stop and pop" ability and I prefer 3rd person to 1st. I love sprinting up to a column, taking cover, shooting a few machine gun rounds, going back to cover, and then chucking a grenade. BOOM! Online IS like crack. I know there aren't a whole lot variety in the online play, but I love the fast paced action where teams win by rounds. Once a round ends, the next one starts in about 10 seconds. Feeelin' it![smilie=hyper.gif] Baker 01-03-2007, 03:29 PM Well number 1, the graphics are sick. I'll give this game 9.4 out of 10. Perfect reply. You stole all my thoughts I was going to come with. Saying the chainsaw is the only cool part about this game is completely inaccurate IMO. There are so many cool weapons, environments, etc. Love the game! Moodini31 01-04-2007, 12:25 PM Another cool thing about the game is the online play. The game is set up in rounds and the first team to achieve a set number of rounds won wins the match. The best part of all this is once you die, you are out and this eliminates spawn killing, which is my least favorite thing about online shooters. The rounds don't take very long, so it's not like you're sitting there waiting forever to play. bangpow 01-06-2007, 02:43 PM Another cool thing about the game is the online play. The action is just more intense and I like the fact that the maps are smaller. detroitsportscity 01-06-2007, 10:46 PM That also eliminates some bitch from hiding in some spot and sniping all day long. I also like how you start on different sides of the map each round, which makes DSC's point. Best online shooting experience by far. detroitsportscity 01-09-2007, 04:52 PM I agree gentlemen. I also like how you start on different sides of the map each round, which makes DSC's point. Best online shooting experience by far. Agreed, even in my brief experience playing it. Simply by preventing snipers from camping - goes to the front of my list, on top of that, it is a bad ass game. Baker 01-10-2007, 09:47 PM Okay, as previously stated, I bought this game, played the one player mode for a very short period of time and then moved on to online play and fell in love with it. But, I've been meaning to give the one player mode another chance for awhile and I finally did it the other day. WOW, I WAS SO WRONG for not giving the one player mode more time. This game is flat out flawless. I've been playing it for awhile, the story is terrific, it plays out well within the gameplay, gameplay very fun, graphics unreal, difficulty just right, etc. etc. Anyone that doesn't like this game, just didn't give it enough time. Jickboy played for a bit, was a hater, came to my crib, I showed him what it's really all about and just about pooped his pants he was so hyped. Did you buy it yet Jicknuts? bangpow 01-11-2007, 03:26 PM I guess they have two new maps available for DL for free in the marketplace now, along with some patch for online play. DrRay11 01-11-2007, 04:41 PM Agree with Tre's assessment almost spot on, except I thought the story was near horrendous if not a little corny. Everything else about the game, however, is fucking stellar. Moodini31 01-11-2007, 08:28 PM 2 new maps and dashboard theme available for free on XBLM- Ms. Pac-Man may be today's featured Xbox Live Arcade game, but the yellow gaming icon hardly had a monopoly on Xbox Marketplace downloads this morning. The first multiplayer map pack for Gears of War also went live today, as Epic Games previously promised. The map pack features two new player-versus-player maps, Raven Down and Old Bones, and is free to download. That wasn't all the free Gears of War schwag that appeared on Xbox Live Marketplace this morning. Also available is a free Gears of War dashboard theme, based on the new maps. The theme adds a few blades of Marcus Fenix unloading on Locusts as well as a few screens of the new battlegrounds. DashboardThemes.com has a preview of the theme on its Web site. For those who want to get an idea of the maps straight from the man who designed them, Epic and Microsoft have also released a video blog from Gears of War lead designer Cliff Bleszinski. In the video, Cliff gives a brief overview of both maps and gives thanks to the game's fans. Baker 01-11-2007, 10:26 PM Agree with Tre's assessment almost spot on, except I thought the story was near horrendous if not a little corny. Everything else about the game, however, is fucking stellar. I don't like the idea for the story. I'm not big on weird alien type things taking over earth. However, if you accept the story for what it is, they carry it along throughout the game well with few questions left unanswered. They do a nice job of bringing in dialog and cut scenes to keep the interest going. That's what I meant about the story aspect. Moodini31 01-13-2007, 12:16 AM I really like the campaign mode. The gameplay is non-stop action and it's tons of fun. The dialouge and cut scenes can be a little corny at times, but it doesn't really bother me and they work really well to advance the story. I still prefer to play online, but campaign mode is frickin' great too. |
