Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor had some harsh words to say about Saunders in a recent interview.
Taylor claimed Saunders' lack of "discipline" and "consistency" while he coached the Timberwolves drove away Rasho Nesterovic, who left to play for the San Antonio Spurs. Taylor also blamed Saunders for Minnesota's inability to re-sign Chauncey Billups, who left the Twin Cities for Detroit in 2002.
"Rasho only left because of Flip," Taylor said to City Pages, an alternative weekly newspaper in Minneapolis. "If we would have traded the coach, he (Nesterovic) would have stayed. Rasho said, number one, he wanted somebody with more discipline, he wanted somebody with more consistency. He didn't see this coach doing that."
When told about Taylor's comments, Saunders replied, "I don't want to get into a `he-said, she-said' type thing. Anybody that's ever left Minnesota, the best years they had were there with me. The best Rasho ever played, was with me and not when he went to San Antonio."
Rasho Nesterovic was a major loss I see.
