View Full Version : A plan for impeaching Bush/Cheney?
Glenn 11-02-2006, 02:20 PM I caught part of a radio report that claimed that Michigan's own John Conyers is leading a group planning on going after Bush and Cheney (impeachment) if the Dems take back control of Congress next week.
Anybody know anything more about this?
Uncle Mxy 11-02-2006, 04:14 PM The short answer is "no, too much other shit to clean up". You can hear it in his own words as of a week ago:

The Republicans are attempting to spook the vote -- "if you elect a Democratic House, they're just going to be divisive and cause trouble."
If I wanted anyone to lead impeachment investigations, it'd be Henry Waxman out of Hollywood/Bel Air, not John Conyers. In a Democratic House, he'd run the Committee on Government Reform, the other logical House group to go after any impeachment-level issues. Conyers with subpoena power might spook the crooked Republicans a little, but he could be played away as some sort of conspiracy theorist. Waxman, by contrast, would make them shit large grapefruits until they wished for orange jumpsuits.
Glenn 11-03-2006, 01:51 PM Well holding Bush accountable for the 2,825 dead Americans (so far) in his phony war seems more important than going after Clinton for lying about a BJ.
Uncle Mxy 11-03-2006, 05:13 PM I'd want active investigation and stopping of executive abuse to happen immediately. Ideally, the investigation results would be so bad that *Republicans* would either be forced to impeach one (or two) of their own, or get their asses booted out in 2008. Eat the poison pill baby...
geerussell 11-06-2006, 12:14 PM If there was a lesson in the Clinton impeachment it was that nothing else productive happens in government during the process. Even though the bush administration is unforgivably incompetent and misguided, I'd rather see it die of natural causes in two years than sit through an impeachment attempt.

I guess I just want some sort of vengeance. Maybe that's selfish/shallow?
The Clinton stunt they pulled was silly, they don't deserve a free pass on this one IMO, especially since the magnitude of the discretions are not even comparable.
I'd like to see a precedent set here so there is some hint of accountability when a future powermad daddy's boy takes over office.
I suppose voting out all of Bush's cronies is a more meaningful form of vengeance, just not as glamorous.

Or you could look at it like this... a successful impeachment of Bush gives you President Cheney. Be careful what you wish for.
Glenn 11-08-2006, 12:16 PM The rumor had them going after both Bush & Cheney.
How would the pecking order go then? Condi or Rummy?
Neither would matter since the Speaker of the House would be president.
Uncle Mxy 11-08-2006, 12:21 PM #3 after Bush and Cheney would be Speaker of the House and you'd have President Nancy Pelosi. That's probably the biggest unspoken reason that she doesn't want to do impeachment. I could think of no finer way to rally the Republican faithful than to have her as "president by impeachment".
Glenn 11-08-2006, 12:23 PM What a way to get the first woman President, lol.
Anybody know anything about the censure process? Pros/Cons?
Uncle Mxy 11-08-2006, 03:53 PM Censure = formal hand slap, nothing more or less. It could get Bush's misdeesds in the record books, as if it was in any danger of -not- getting in the record books otherwise. That's about it.

This sites been around for a couple years now. They have been trying but nothing has happened. I think I agree though that by this time, its better to wait out the two years. We dont need our gov stalled right now and especially if the dems win the senate that sends a pretty big message. I think the D was up by about 1000+ votes in Virginia as of a bit ago, which means that there will be a recount and according to what I read that will probably take until late December. If Virginia goes D then both houses would be Dem.
Glenn 11-08-2006, 04:18 PM I guess I just want blood, lol.
A censure's formal handslap might be the next best thing besides the ass-stomping that took place yesterday.
Let's leave no room for revisionist history about Bush's bevy of debacles.
Let's get it on record, maybe it can be some sort of deterrent going forward.
