Pistons Gameday

Game Preview:
The skinny: The Wizards have featured the NBA’s top scoring trio the last two years. Last year it was Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler. All that offensive firepower makes them a dangerous team if they play decent defense, and coach Eddie Jordan has been stressing that end during the preseason with pretty effective results. This is Washington’s last preseason game and Jordan still needs to decide on a starting center between Etan Thomas and Brendan Haywood. DeShawn Stevenson has replaced Jared Jeffries, a free agent who signed with New York, alongside Arenas in the backcourt.

What to watch: If Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton play – doubtful, since Flip Saunders has said he plans to rest three or four starters – then chances are you’ll see more of their arsenal than at any point in the preseason. In trying to get their key newcomers acclimated, they’ve consciously deferred to Nazr Mohammed and Flip Murray. If they don’t go tonight, then monitor Carlos Delfino’s wayward jump shot and the continued progress of Jason Maxiell and Amir Johnson.

minor injury notes (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061024/SPORTS03/610240406/1051):

"I didn't want to take the chance of going three really hard days and having something happen," he said.

"Something" is coach speak for "injury" in this case. And conservatism is a smart strategy, considering the number of veterans on the roster.

Two of them -- Antonio McDyess and Dale Davis -- were banged up Monday. Davis re-aggravated a sprained left hamstring that kept him out of the first five exhibitions. McDyess tweaked his groin and spent the final portion of the day gingerly circling the track around the practice court.

No one chatting tonight. You losers!

I got in late myself and the Tigs are on shortly so no big.

I'm watching a stretch where the Pistons have Delfi, Prince, Dupree, Nazr and Murray on the floor and they're running pretty damn good. Wiz calling TOs.

I was at the game tonight. Apparently a lot of people didn't know about the early start. At 7pm there was less than 10% of the seats filled. It looked like it got up to about 35-40% by 7:45. It was a pretty quiet game but still fun to go to.
