View Full Version : Mike Hart Appreciation Thread
Moodini31 10-22-2006, 03:48 PM With Adrian Peterson pretty much out for the rest of the year, and Mike Hart coming off a 126 yard, 2 touchdown performance vs. Iowa, giving him 1032 yards and 8 TD's in 8 games, is Mike Hart the best back in college football?
I mean, what more could you want from a back? He's a fiery leader, fierce competitor, has outstanding strength and agility, is a great pass receiver, an excellent blocker, and just makes everyone around him better.

There is no other back I'd rather have in the country.
Tahoe 10-22-2006, 06:03 PM Mike Hart has as good leg drive as any back I've ever seen. That little fucker moves the entire pack when they gang tackle him. unbeeweebable.
I don't follow football enough to comment on where he stands overall.
detroitsportscity 10-22-2006, 07:16 PM I'd take Peterson or Bush over him, assuming they were healthy. But they aren't so IDK.
Other backs?
Spiller and Charles would be apealling, I'd probably take Spiller. Lynch is amazing at Cal.
So I'd take him #3, and have him in my top 5 assuming everyone was healthy.
Baker 10-22-2006, 07:54 PM Darren McFadden is the best back in college football IMO. He's huge, strong, and has blazing speed. He was a Honorable Mention All American as a freshman last year. His 80 yard TD against Auburn was sick. He was the fastest man on the field and he's like 6'2" 215. Hart is great, but McFadden is one of those backs that not only will shine in college, but he'll be an NFL star. Mark that down.

McFadden is good. Very good.
theMUHMEshow 10-22-2006, 09:22 PM Mike Hart is not the best back in the nation. Mike Hart is a great back running behind one of the top 3 offensive lines in the Nation.
**edit**
Mike Hart might however be one of the greatest leaders in the nation. The players love the hell out of him and would take a bullet for the guy. He brings something to the field that cannot be replaced.
theMUHMEshow 10-22-2006, 09:23 PM CJ Spiller > Darren McFadden
Jethro34 10-22-2006, 09:51 PM I can't give it for for Hart as the top back. When you're running behind that line and you lead the nation in most carries, you should be far and away the leading rusher with a dozen or more TDs.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not ripping the guy at all. They have played some good defenses against the rush. Other games, when the defenses aren't nearly as good, they shut him down early to give carries to guys like Grady and Minor. If he was the only stud RB Michigan had, he could easily have stuck it out in some of those games and have a couple hundred more yards with a couple more TDs.
But with Hart, if I were to say he was the best in the country I would be lying to myself. If his top end speed was a bit faster, if he were more of a pass catching threat, if his big-play ability were a bit bigger, I could say he was the best.
But a couple others have hit some key points. If we had a better RB that was a bit of a punk, we wouldn't be as good. This guy is certainly a leader.
Also, while his big play ability is a bit less (he'll break 20 yard runs often but rarely goes for 40 or 50+), I think there are times when he gets 3 more yards on the tough inside run than anyone. He NEVER stops.
So if he were a bit faster to the outside and turning the corner, I think it's safe to say he would break more big plays and have a higher YPC than 4.8. But in college, 4.8 YPC isn't amazing.
Baker 10-22-2006, 10:03 PM I would say he's the most determined back in college football.

but shouldn't the second paragraph be part of the equation?
Moodini31 10-23-2006, 10:54 AM but shouldn't the second paragraph be part of the equation?
That's basically what I'm saying.
WTFchris 10-23-2006, 02:42 PM If Michigan beats OSU it won't matter who has more "talent" at RB. Hart will win the Heisman IMO. There is no doubt he's carried this team (as far as the offense goes anyway), even if he doesn't have 20 TD's. He opens the field for Mario and Arrington to make the big catches (and vice versa of course) for TD's and his numbers suffer.
Moodini31 10-26-2006, 12:23 PM I watched my recording of GameDay last night. They actually had the discussion about who the best RB in the country is now. FWIW, Corso said Hart, and Desmond and Herbstreit picked Steve Slaton.
Artermis 10-27-2006, 10:57 AM Hart is considering going pro after this season. This is all rumor, but that is what is being said.
Black Dynamite 10-27-2006, 12:35 PM if they win the national championship its definate. if they lose it by 3 points maybe he comes back. I think he'd go higher in the draft if he waits til the following season with adrian peterson and possibly marshall lynch coming out this draft year.
but at the same time Michigan would have to be in the running for a bcs next year too.
I think he'll come out this draft. Too many things can go wrong if he doesn't from injury to michigan not getting as much attention as they are getting right now.
Baker 10-27-2006, 02:11 PM Gutz I can't even concentrate anymore man! I'm sitting here trying to discuss sports and I get caught up watching your video. I can't take it anymore! I get lost in fantasy land, than I get pissed that the camera isn't lower, then I start wondering what movie that is from. It is driving me crazy. I don't need Cha-Cha-Chauncey Ba Ba Billups rising to the occation while I'm at my computer everyday haha. lol
Black Dynamite 10-27-2006, 02:14 PM I don't know what you're talking abut. [smilie=burgerking.: [smilie=paca.gif]
Jethro34 10-27-2006, 04:32 PM I guarantee I've wondered what movie that came from. I would watch it just for the purpose of adding sound to the clip.
By the way, I'm truly frightened of how many people from this team could go pro at the end of the year.
On that defense, Woodley, Hall, Biggs, burgess and Harris are all gone. Branch and Crable could possibly join them.
Others gone or eligible include Trent, Barringer, Englemon and Jamison.
Offensively, Ecker, Breaston and Oluigbo are gone.
Along the line, add Riley and Bihl.
Hart, Henne, Arrington, Long, Kraus and Mitchell are all eligible to declare as well.
Rivas will be gone.
This teamcould be in a TON of trouble next year. The only positives that would come is that a bunch of young guys would get PT (and the team has recruited well) and a ton of scholarships would open up, with big time players realizing that PT is there for the taking at a powerhouse program.
Artermis 10-27-2006, 06:35 PM I doubt Carble goes anywhere. He will be the man at LB next year.
Branch is about 50/50. Depends on if he wants to be 1st round or top 10. Henne is not going anywhere. Long has told everyone that he is coming back (take that for what it is worth). We have a guy on the premium board who is very close friends with AA and we get great 1st hand info. The domestic battery situation is a nonissue and while it just came public happened a while back. Kraus and Mitchell are not going anywhere either.
If I had to guess I would say Hart and Branch are the only 2 underclassman to leave early.
BTW I am not worried about Ecker leaving (if he stays injured, maybe a med redshirt? Will Paul will take over at FB and while Breaston is a great PR and KR...his WR skills are not very good and we will be fine.
Our front 4 will be solid no matter who leaves. Jamison, Graham (think Woodley but faster), Slocum and McKinney will take over with Taylor (who is vastly underrated). LB is our biggest worry on D next year.
Our offense is going to be sick.
Moodini31 10-28-2006, 01:41 AM Yeah, don't fret Jethro. As of now, Long says he is coming back, Branch says he's not going anywhere until he wins a National Championship (if we do win it this year, and he goes, I'll take it!), and I don't see Crable going either.
On offense, I think Henne would only go if we win it all, and I don't think Hart will go either way. NFL scouts will say he's too small and not fast enough. Like Art said, the offense is going to be dreamy next year. I expect it to be Henne at QB (maybe a little Bass), Hart, Grady, Minor, and Brown at TB, Carson Butler at TE, and Manningham, a seasoned Arrington, Greg Mathews and Antonio Bass at WR. Sick!
The defense will be in a transition phase, but I think Art broke it down pretty well and I think our talent will shine through.
GO BLUE!
Artermis 10-28-2006, 11:30 AM Bass might never play football again. It is up in the air.
BTW Mallett will be the backup QB next year. He is coming in January to start school. He is 6'7" and plays PG on his basketball team. He is not a running QB, but he moves around very well and he can throw the ball 70 yards on his back foot. He can make all the throws....Henne struggles mightily on some passes, Mallett can make them all.
I can definitely see Hart leaving if they win a NC. His stock will never be higher for him. But I think we are fine at RB with Brown, Minor and Grady. If Hart leaves...Minor will win the RB spot next year. He has stud all over him.
We are fine with WR next year MM and AA be back and Mathews will have a year.
BTW at least 3 guys transferring....you probably already know about Mister Simpson, but Dough Dutch will be gone after this year too (that is what is being said).
Our OL will be so much better. Boren is a stud. The class from two years ago with Zirbel and Moosman is the real deal.
Bulter is going to be a good to great TE at UM.
We will be solid up front and as long as Crable stays our LB wont be horrible. S will be fine and Sears and Trent will be our CBs, but Rojo is special and could be starting by Big Ten season with Sears actually. At least he will be the nickel.
I think next year was set up better for a run at an NC, but OSU can be had. Our front 7 is that good and will be super motivated. If we can contain Gonzo, I see no problem with us winning.
Hart will run the ball against OSU. I just hope the fans dont shoot anyone after we beat them there. OSU admin has no control over its fan base and encourages the behavior that has earned it rep as one of the worst places to visit for a football game.
Black Dynamite 10-28-2006, 12:59 PM ohio voted for bush twice. thats all you need to know.
Moodini31 10-29-2006, 03:08 AM Art, I read articles before the season and Bass and Carr both said he would play again, next year.
Artermis 10-29-2006, 08:43 AM Yeah I know that is what is being said and that is what they hope, but there is a chance.
