Welcome to the new NBA. He went 12-16 today for FTs, rebounded too. If he can do 65% on average, like college, he'll do just fine off the bench.

maxiell would draw fouls in the old nba. he just has a way about him where you'd rather foul him than have him dunk on your head.

Memphis 101, Detroit 89 (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2006101429)
Preview - Box Score - Recap

October 14, 2006

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Memphis rookie Rudy Gay scored 21 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter Saturday night, to lead the Grizzlies to a 101-89 win over the Detroit Pistons.

Detroit had taken a 78-77 lead with 8:34 left, but Memphis put together a 20-6 run to go up 97-84 with 2:33 left. Gay scored nine in the stretch.

Dahntay Jones added 17 for Memphis, going 6-of-8 from the floor, while Hakim Warrick scored 13 and had eight rebounds. For the second straight game, Lawrence Roberts had double-digit rebounds with 10 in 15 minutes. Gay, the rookie out of Connecticut, has led Memphis in scoring in all three preseason games.

Five Pistons scored in double figures, led by 16 from Jason Maxiell. Flip Murray added 14 and Carlos Delfino had 13. Chauncey Billups was the only Detroit starter in double figures with 10 points, matching the total by Amir Johnson.

The Grizzlies were without starters Mike Miller, who had the nail on his right big toe removed, and center Jake Tsakalidis, who has a sore right knee. Since the Grizzlies cut Kimani Ffriend on Friday, that left 6-foot-8 Brian Cardinal, normally a forward, starting at center.

On the Detroit side, Nazr Mohammed didn't play, so Antonio McDyess was in the middle with Tayshaun Prince and Rasheed Wallace at the forwards. Detroit officials classified Mohammed's night off only as a "coach's decision" before the game.

The Pistons starters were in for most of the third period, but Memphis held a 75-70 lead entering the final period when Jones hit another basket at the end of the quarter.

some notes looking at the boxscore (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/boxscore;_ylt=Av_BjCV1Fuxnz.4Ty8G7toK8vLYF?gid=200 6101429):

- Flip Murray had 4 assists in 29 min and Delfino had 5 assists (team high) in 26 min. both very promising. i didn't see the game, of course, but this further bolsters my desire for them to play PG over Lindsey.

- Maxiell had an good FT night, going 12-16 (75%) at the charity stripe. he was only 2-10 FG and finished with 16 points. if he can shoot FTs at above 70%, he'll definitely be an asset with his propensity to be fouled. he had 9 boards, too.

- Amir Johnson (besides getting posterized above), put up 10 pts in 14 min, shooting 4-5 FG.

That's one thing I'll never understand, how some dude throwing the elbow of his off arm in your face gets you "posterized".

the caption under the pic said Warrick dunked over Amir, so i assume some aspiring photographer will make a poster out of it. hence, Amir has been posterized.

offensivefoul-ized just doesn't have the same ring to it.....:laugh2:

The assist thing with flip and fino is SO important in this offense. Neither have shown the can be consistent in setting up teammates over their careers, Flip will surely be looking for that as he decides where those minutes are going to go.

So, doublepost. Um, anyone want some soup? I made some real nice vegetable beef with some smoked ox meat I had.

well i would disagree about delfino. he has never GOT consistent minutes so he was mostly unable to show his very good ability to set up his teammates.

that has always been a strong point for him. i lost count of the number of times he made a nice pass and a teammate either bobbled it because they weren't ready for it, or they missed an easy shot.

delfino is very talented when it comes to getting shots for others.
he will show this once he gets some REAL playing time.

IMO he's an athletic version of jon barry, except not as good a shooter. but he is very crafty with the ball and can set people up with some easy looks.

Well, his asst/to ratio is awful bad and got worse in the worlds when he did get good minutes. He can set people up, but so can you and I, its a matter of doing it well without feeding the other team more than yours.

the important thing to remember........is that Hermy somehow has access to smoked oxen. but seriously, did you smoke that yourself? i've been wanting to buy a smoker (http://www.amazon.com/Weber-Smokey-Cooker-Smoker-Charcoal/dp/B0009WQ2TM/sr=8-2/qid=1160930602/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/104-1416315-6997545?ie=UTF8)for bbq ribs and stuff.

hopefully, delfino takes a page out of chauncey's book, as far as low turnovers.....rather than emulate Rip's turnover prone game.

.

I do own a smoker, but I bought the ox at a festival last week north of Bay City.

If you can afford one, but a http://www.biggreenegg.com/ . Its a ceramic combo that's tough to screw up.
