View Full Version : OGT: Michigan @ Penn State
Moodini31 10-11-2006, 11:00 AM Any other Wolverines as worried about this game as I am? National TV, ABC's hyped game, 8:00 kickoff (remember the game vs. OSU last year?), no Manningham, and we've beat them 7 straight times (they've got to beat us once right?). Someone please make me feel better about this game!

This makes me feel a little better.
Glenn 10-11-2006, 11:02 AM The two best unis in college sports, IMO.
Maybe we can come up with a fake trophy of some kind to get the team motivated.
What do MSU and PSU play for "the land grant trophy" or something like that? Manufactured rivalry bullshit.
EDIT: Worst trophy ever, lol.

Jethro34 10-11-2006, 08:46 PM No Penn State memory was quite as nice as when I was at the game and they came in all hyped up and we chanted CURTIS....PENIS....and beat the crap out of them. It was a strange score, like 26-8 or something, with their lone score coming very late in the game. Enis was among the leading Heisman hopefuls and we held him in check better than anyone else that year. Then he because the next Penn State RB bust, following the likes of Ki-Jana Carter and company. (a curse that Larry Johnson seems to have broken). We always shut down PSU backs. Hopefully we kill Tony Hunt as well.
shags 10-11-2006, 10:02 PM No Mario Manningham in this one. This was going to be a tough game anyway, but it just got tougher without Super Mario.
Moodini31 10-14-2006, 01:31 AM Man, this forum is really dead. Where is everyone? Oh yeah.......the MLB forum![smilie=highfive.gi: This is going to be a very tough game that will come down to the wire. From what I'm hearing, PSU now has Michigan as their #1 rival. They just can't stand the fact that Michigan has beat them 7 straight times.
"The fans here despise, hate, loathe … whatever word you want to use that conveys the greatest amount of dislike for Michigan that you can think of, and they will be as up for that game as any in the history of the program.
Happy Valley is going to be going berserk by the time the 8:00 kickoff comes around. Beaver Stadium will be "whited" out and it will truly be an electric atmosphere. Not having Manningham will hurt the Wolverines, but not as much as people think. Michigan will still be able to run the ball down PSU's throat like they have done to everyone else this year. Adrian Arrington will step up and have a big game, as will Carl Tabb like he did in 2003 when Jason Avant went down vs. the Buckeyes. On the other side of the ball, Anthony Morelli is too inexperienced to be able to handle the talented, fast, and physical defense of the Wolverines. His lack of experience and mobility will hamper the PSU offense all night long. But due to the boost from the crowd, the Nittany Lions will hang around, but it won't be enough in the end. Maybe next year is the year the streak ends.
Michigan-24
Penn State-17
b-diddy 10-14-2006, 02:00 AM yea. if the other recievers, specifically arrington, hadnt been stepping up recently, i'd be more concerned. i think michigan will be fine. UM has to cap off the greatest year in detroit sports history, so that means they cant lose this game.

Glenn your hatred/obsession with MSU might be a little out of control. You manage to get MSU in your post in a Michigan versus Penn State thread. You might have some issues.
Glenn 10-14-2006, 05:06 PM Fair enough, just as long as you aren't saying that's not the worst trophy ever.
Baker 10-14-2006, 09:53 PM Definately the worst trophy ever.
Black Dynamite 10-14-2006, 10:44 PM lol@the classless psu fan dissing henne while his high school coach is doing the interview. and while henne was sniping a couple passes through his team.
Jethro34 10-14-2006, 11:19 PM It sure would be nice if Michigan could finish a game a bit better.
Here they have Musberger, Davie and Herbstreit beating off about how Michigan should be the #2 team in the country now, and they have several conservative 3-and-outs allowing Penn State to stick around for that screen pass that Hunt took to the house.
Frustrating blemish on an otherwise dominant performance defensively.
b-diddy 10-14-2006, 11:26 PM yea, but a wins a win at this point.
we got some love from florida, and usc limping by ASU really helps too. we should be #2 in the country tomorrow night.
Black Dynamite 10-14-2006, 11:28 PM well i think we make #2 for now. Buts whats odd is that notre dame could be #2 if they run the table and we win. rematch? wtf?
b-diddy 10-14-2006, 11:56 PM yea, weird, but i wouldnt mind beating notre dame twice in one season, especially for a national championship.
and i disagree jethro, especially considering the last drive. that pass to braeston was stupid (even though it was in the numbers). hart was on fire, and even if he didnt get the 1st we could have taken another 30 seconds off.
btw, anyone catch ASU's coach punt the game away? lol, hows he going to explain that one? i guess he did us a favor with the computers, but if i play for arizona state i want to go on 4th and 26 and play to win. did the dude not realize he was getting the ball back at best with 10 seconds?
Jethro34 10-15-2006, 12:31 AM I don't think Notre Dame would get back to us. Maybe, depending on the computers, but I think a Michigan-Texas rematch is more likely.
If Florida comes back from today's game, you never know how much they could crawl back in.
Don't forget Louisville though. I think they're a tough squad and everything depends on that Nov 2 game between West Virginia and Louisville. They might both be in the top 5 at that point, so for one of them to likely be undefeated afterward with a victory over a top 5 team would look pretty good for them. The rest of their schedule sucks, and the computers might reflect that, but they would have SOME arguement anyhow.
Moodini31 10-15-2006, 01:48 AM WOW![smilie=jaw-droppin: What a dominating performance by the best defense in the country! 7 sacks, 2 quarterbacks knocked out of the game, and Penn State had -14 yards rushing!

I love what Musberger said "This Michigan defense isn't just good...it's NASTY!" The D is getting national pub as the best front 7 in the country hands down (as Herbstreit said) and show me a better unit in all the land. The best adjective I can use for the D is 97ish.
On the other side of the ball, Arrington stepped up huge and is going to be a star. Henne looked like a veteran and one of the top QB's in the country and Hart (the ultimate leader, teammate, and warrior) ran for his usual 100 yards and a TD.
The conservative play at the end and the TD we gave up didn't bother me too much. That's always what happens at the end of games. Try to run the ball, even though the other team knows you're going to and run the clock. On D, you know the trailing team is going to be chucking it, and every now and then you bust one. No worries. I'll gladly take giving up 10 points to PSU in a night game @ Happy Valley any day of the week.
Michigan should move up to #2 and will face a beat down, injured Iowa team at The Big House next week before hosting Northwestern, then going to Indiana and home again vs. Ball State, and then going to Columbus, in what could be a matchup between The #1 Ohio State Buckeyes and the #2 Michigan Wolverines with the winner going to and probably winning the National Championship game. I say that because-
UM - OSU winner will be undefeated
WVU - Louisville winner will be undefeated
USC will lose
Winner UM-OSU plays winner WVU-Louisville
Winner UM-OSU easily beats the Big East winner
Wow, it's really starting to feel like a special season.

"IT'S GREAT....TO BE....A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE!"
b-diddy 10-15-2006, 02:08 AM was it just me, or did henne look thinner and more mobile tonight?
Jethro34 10-15-2006, 12:32 PM Henne certainly did show more of a willingness to scramble when necessary. Moire important, he was smart about it. He didn't run unless he needed to, but he did run every time it was necessary. And when he ran, he avoided hits and protected himself - knowing we have no depth at his position.
The amazing thing about the defense is that going into the season the most hyped defender on the team was Leon Hall (a lot of people talked about Woodley, but Hall was the All-American). While the front 7 does get a ton of deserved credit, don't overlook the secondary. Teams put up passing yards against us because THEY HAVE TO. They can't run. Do you realize that opposing teams average 37 pass attempts against us? ANY secondary is going to give up some plays when the other team has to throw that much. And credit the secondary a bit for some of our sacks. While our front 7 is filled with beasts, you have to credit coverage for the fact that some of the QB's still had the ball.
The downside to me is how many of those defenders will be gone next season. It will certainly hurt us, but hopefully English will have some of the young studs ready to go.
b-diddy 10-15-2006, 02:57 PM yea, which is all the more reason to enjoy this season.
and your right, last night henne really played like an established vet. i think i might even say he turned a corner last night.

WTFchris 10-17-2006, 11:03 AM That picture is awsome Moodini. Why are the PSU OL walking away from their QB?
