View Full Version : Sheed for Odom, would you do it?
Glenn 09-28-2006, 09:01 AM It's been a while since we had some good old fashion discussion about pretend trades.
The contracts are very similar, as are the stats (Sheed scores a bit more, Odom gets more boards/assts, but Sheed has been sharing boards with Ben).
Both have baggage.
Sheed just turned 32, and Odom is about to be 27.
Would the Lakers do it?
I'm pretty sure the Pistons would.
Black Dynamite 09-28-2006, 09:07 AM Odom isnt KG. so no. I like Lamar. But overall i dont like his defense and ocasional soft drives that are typically easy swats for centers. If he played a little more aggressive i might give him more thought. But Sheed can get on the box, play defense, and overall energizes a team more.
Glenn 09-28-2006, 09:12 AM I was just thinking that with the Lakers adding Radmanovic that he and Odom would be too similar in some ways for them.
They would probably be:
Kwame
Sheed
Radmanovic
Kobe
Smush
with Mihm, Cook, Walton, Shammond & MoEvans off the bench
Pistons could be
Nazr
Odom
Tay
Rip
C-Bill
With Dice, Flip, Delfino, Lindsey & Davis
Our athleticism and length at the 3 & 4 would be insane.
but Sheed has been sharing boards with Ben
true, but Sheed has a career rebounding average of 6.9 compared to Odom's career average of 8.5. just looking at last season, Sheed had double digit rebounding nights 13 times. Odom broke double digits 35 times.
i like that Sheed can play the PF and C positions, while Odom seems like a SF/PF. Odom's ball handling and assists are definitely nice. Odom's age is definitely a positive. Defensively, i'd take Sheed in a heartbeat. Sheed's fire/attitude/swagger seems to be an intangible that helps the team.....and makes them fun to watch. Sheed's tendecy to get caught up with the refs could be viewed as a negative.
if Sheed would just have more dominant games (like he's capable of), this wouldn't even be close.
if i were Joe D, i pull the trigger. Sheed is old and who knows how many good years he's got left. his game has been gravitating towards the three point arc and there's no reason to think he's suddenly going to plant his ass in the paint.
btw, i could almost see the Lakers doing a deal like this. they know they can't seriously compete in the West with their roster. they might think adding a veteran like Sheed (and maybe a few more pieces) might give them a shot.
Black Dynamite 09-28-2006, 09:36 AM I dont like it myself. as far as radmonivic, he hasnt been so good that Odom is expendable. I think it improves their bench. But but Rads doesnt come close to doing what odom does for the lakers. If we didnt have billups and tayshaun, I'd do the trade. but since we do i wouldn't. Odom the SF is better than odom the PF. and odom the PF makes Dyess look like Ben Wallace on defense. He also isnt a great box or post player either. I'm not looking to have even less presence in the paint myself. [smilie=sayitaintso:
At this point KG trades are more likable with Ben gone. But Odom is a lil' ummm not so peachy.
Uncle Mxy 09-28-2006, 09:44 AM Odom's not Sheed defensively, but he's 5 years younger and his contract isn't totally fucked for his ability, so yeah I'd do it.
Hermy 09-28-2006, 09:49 AM Not a center, so I can't.
Pharaoh 09-28-2006, 10:58 AM Hermy stole my thunder.
Something else that just hit me:
Matt said [i]if Sheed would just have more dominant games (like he's capable of), this wouldn't even be close. [i]
I've said the same thing before and I'm sure most people have.
Here's the thing that will squash your nuts:
Is he still capable of stringing dominant games together anymore?
I'm not talking a playoff game or 2 per series, I'm talking about 4 or more dominant games in a row.
When was the last time Sheed did that?
Glenn 09-28-2006, 11:06 AM Not a center, so I can't.
In a somewhat unrelated but somewhat related note, I was looking at the Yahoo NBA fantasy rankings this morning and there is a special note there about Sheed no longer being eligible at center in their system.
[smilie=peepwall.gi:
Pharaoh 09-28-2006, 11:19 AM That's fantasy, B
Glenn 09-28-2006, 11:39 AM That's fantasy, B
Exactly.
Which is why I said "NBA fantasy rankings" and "their system".
If we have Nazr, Davis and a vet's minimum C for the 15th roster spot (Kandi, Cato, Ervin Johnson, DeClercq, Jahidi, Rickert, etc) , I think we'd be fine up front.
If we're counting on Sheed too much as a center we are in bigger trouble than most of you think we are anyways.
micknugget 09-30-2006, 01:33 PM I would go 1 step further. Trade Sheed, Davis, and Delfino to the Lakers for Mihm and Odom. That would help out our rebounding and C situation for sure
Uncle Mxy 09-30-2006, 05:28 PM The only way Mihm helps us over Dale Davis is if we commit to signing him after his contract expires. If he plays well, he's priced out of our market if we have to take care of Chauncey too. If not, we want him because...?
DennyMcLain 09-30-2006, 09:23 PM Fuck all of you. Odom stays in LA. You can have Rony Seikaly and Gheorghe Mureşan.

MOLA1 09-30-2006, 10:20 PM First off, there's a lot of people here that hate on Sheed's outside shooting fetish.
If that's the case, you'd loathe Odom. He's less effective in the post even though
he's there slightly more than Sheed. That's not good. Sheed's attitude alone is
worth keeping him. Losing Sheed for Odom would kill this team's morale.
Odom is way too quiet.
As he'd fit in with the rest of the gang with his good attitude and unselfishness,
we'd be hurting our team because Sheed will now become the heart and soul with
the departure of that other Wallace. With the other guys in our core; Chauncey, Rip,
Tayshaun and McDyess, we don't have an enforcer there. Teamwork, effort, speed
intelligence and talent strike me as their strong points. A big part of being a winner
is believing that nobody is better than you. Sheed fits that role best.
If we were to add Odom in place of Sheed, we'd be a good group of guys, but never
a championship contender. Think back in almost any sport and there's always an
intimidator there on that squad. Off the top of my head: Laimbeer, Rodman, Bowen,
Maxwell, Mourning (fuck Mourning), even the Superbowl Champion NE Patriots had
Harrison or the Steelers Joey Porter. They all have that, "Come fuck with us" attitude.
Sheed loves us...we love him. Though he's a Philly cat, he's a Detroiter to the core.

Let's not forget Rick Mahorn.
Rasheed is all mouth. He's not disposed to doing particularly nasty things as part of his gameplay the way most of the classic intimidators are. I really miss the days of physical intimidators... scary fuckers like Oakley not afraid to mix it up a bit.
