View Full Version : Spartans Land Big Time Recruit
Baker 09-25-2006, 10:13 PM Okay, this is my second attempt at this one. Hermy and I got the last one way off topic. Here we go, MSU landed a HUGE commitment. the following is an article I found. Lucious' height is wrong (5'11"). Go State!
Lucious, a lightening-quick 5-foot-9 guard, has been fond of Tom Izzo and MSU’s program for some time. PrepSpotlight.com’s No. 4 point guard in 2008 and No. 35 player overall admits that his bond with Izzo is why he chose the Spartans.
“Basically the relationship that I had with Coach Izzo,” he said. “He’s been on me since I was like in 7th and 8th grade, and through the years I’ve grown to know him. He’s like the only head coach that talks to me all the time. He’s the only one that comes out to my games and all of the open gyms and stuff.”
Lucious has been one of the highest-ranked players in his class since he was in junior high school. The gifted guard had plenty of schools to choose from.
“Marquette, Wisconsin, Florida, UConn, Kansas, Clemson and Georgetown,” he quickly rattled off adding “all of them offered scholarships.”
While it’s flattering to receive so much attention at such an early age the grind of a major recruitment is draining. Lucious is glad it’s over.
“It’s a relief. I don’t have to worry about what school I’m gonna go to. It’s a lot of pressure off.”
Some have been surprised by the timing of the decision but after spending the weekend in East Lansing during the Reunion Weekend, things were accelerated a bit.
“That was fun,” he said. “That was a good experience. The Michigan State players, the former players, the current players and the up-and-coming players were there.”
And the famous scrimmages also left an impression.
“I was real excited about it because they’re all talented,” said the well-spoken Lucious. “It made me work a little harder.”
After taking in all of the sights and sounds of the Spartan Family, Lucious was ready to become a member.
“Yeah, I’m excited about it,” he said with a giggle. “I’m letting everyone know.”
While on the visit, Lucious also chatted with Top 10-ranked forward Delvon Roe, who has the Spartans in his Top 3.
“He told me he likes Michigan State a lot and they’re one of the schools he’s considering but he wants to check out North Carolina first.
“I told him he should come with me. I think we should be loaded if he comes in with me. We’ll have a chance to be very good.”
But the final question that many fans are asking is about the Spartans’ future roster. With the likes of Durrell Summers, Kalin Lucas and Chris Allen, who were all on their official visits this weekend, on the roster, it seems there aren’t a lot of slots left even for talented players like Lucious.
“It doesn’t concern me because I know Coach Izzo likes to play a lot of guards,” he said. “I just know I have to come in and work hard and the rest will take care of itself.”
Congratulations to Tom Izzo, Dwayne Stephens and the entire MSU staff."
Moodini31 09-25-2006, 10:49 PM What happened to all the other stuff? Aren't we like not supposed to delete posts around here? And wouldn't this fit under the basketball recruiting thread?

I'm starting to think Moodini's entire goal on WTF is to question and attack DocTre. I think 50% of your posts are attempts to rip me or question me. Give it a rest, what is your deal?
Mods are supposed to make sure threads are in the right place and posts stay on topic. I thought Hermy and I arguing about who was here first would fall under the off topic catagory. So, I let everyone know I where it was, why it was moved, and what it contained. Therefore, I sent it to "The Stands." If you miss it you can go there and post.
Once again, a Michigan hypocrite. I see "MANNY TO MEEEEEICHIGAN" thread down below. You were okay with that. But, you aren't cool with a separate thread for a big State commit. Hmmm, I wonder why.
Jethro34 09-26-2006, 04:49 PM I think both threads are a bit out there, but on the other hand I'm not going to make a big deal about it. If we did it with every recruit then it would get a little out of hand and it would bump other threads off the main page, but at this point we can reserve it for top 50 guys or something along those lines.

"Will you guys quit yappin' and stealin' my thunder...."
Hermy 09-26-2006, 05:17 PM anyone got any links?
Jethro34 09-26-2006, 05:37 PM By the way, as much as everyone is hyped about this kid, I don't see him making a huge impact.
Why? Because if Kalin Lucas is as good as it seems he will be, there is no reason for Izzo to take the ball out of his hands.
I would suggest Izzo could play Lucas some extended minutes at the 2, freeing up time for this cat, but how does he do that with Summers and Allen there?
The only way this guy makes a huge impact is if some of those fellas leave after a year or two.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying he isn't a big recruit. He should help State play at a high level (once they get back there). But consider his IMPACT compared to if he went to a school that had a greater need at the position. Or consider the impact a PF would have at State.
Along those lines, if he helps you get Roe, that's a bigger impact than almost anything he could do on the floor.

Naw dog, I was just wondering where it went cuz I thought there was some pretty funny stuff in there. I also thought the "MANNY TOO MEEEEECHIGAN" thread was unnecessary. We do seem to have extremely different views on NCAA sports and your posts always get me riled up, but it's all good playa.
detroitsportscity 09-26-2006, 06:31 PM I think Izzo wants to RUN.
Besides Korie being a stud, and a long term backup for Kalin, and Izzo never getting caught without a PG, I think that Izzo wants to bring back a fun running O, and a tough full(er) court D. High energy all game, Nolan Richardson 40 minutes of hell style. Izzo has lots of talent, that loves to run and move coming in, and will need to be wearing guys out to get to his great bench.
08/09:
Lucas/Walton/Lucious
Allen/MoJo/Lucious
Summers/Dahlman/Morgan
Morgan/Roe(hey, I can dream, can't I)/Suton
Herzog/Ibok/Suton

Baker 09-27-2006, 01:04 PM On the whole should we have separate posts thing, I agree with Jethro. When your team gets a Top 50 guy, you are going to be silly hyped. It is a big event and deserves its own thread. That's why I started one for Lucious and posted the Ryan Wheat commitment under the football recruiting.
Jethro, I see where you are coming from, however Izzo is learning from the past. He sends tons of guys to the NBA and alot of them leave early. Therefore, I believe he's making sure he has plenty of point guards. Plus, if you split time between two All American type point guards, they are going to be fresh and ready to run at all times. Izzo has made it clear that he wants to run and I think these recruits are liking it (ala 05 Final Four team).
You win in the tourney with great guard play and Izzo is packing this team with amazing guards. I agree though Jethro, Roe would be even bigger for the program. He has put MSU in his top 3 and I've read a lot of great things about how much he enjoyed playing with past MSU greats this past weekend. Hopefully UNC doesn't impress TOO much and Roe joins the Dream Team. Yup, I'm that high on the 07-08 future.
JackTalkThai 09-28-2006, 07:48 PM It is also well known that Lucious has insane hops and doesn't have the slightest problem throwing it down. He is also said to be about a half-step quicker than Kalin Lucas who is known as one of, if not 'the' fastest player in Michigan. This kid could be something special. I mean, what if he's better than Lucas? Regardless, it's a great dilema for Izzo to have.
Izzo ain't fuckin around here. He is loading up his squad to epic proportions. I just love listening to the M fans who think their roster in '07-'08 will be equally as talented. lol
Anyways I digress, after this last '08 slot is filled up (Roe come on down) I love the fact that Izzo has two years to employ almost all of his recruiting energies on the 2009 class, which will inevitably include a large numbers of elite post players. That will be a crucial class with regards to replenishing roster balance and Izz will have buckets of time to throw at it while other programs are still trying to meet their '07 and '08 quotas.
Advantage: Michigan State!
Baker 09-28-2006, 10:13 PM When you look at Summers, Allen, Lucas, and Lucious all on the same team, it really is sick. Those are extremely high profile guys. I'm very confident that Izzo can get Roe or another terrific post player with the classes he has right now. However, if you have amazing guards and two great SF's in Morgan and Dahlman, you can go Duke style. 4 perimeter guys and a post.
However, lets not act like the cupboard is bare in the lane. I am SO high on Sutton and he's got 3 years left. I am very excited about Quise when healthy and he's got 3 years also.
We are seeing a change at MSU. Izzo is taking the program a step further. With Allen and Lucious committing, he's going National. He's grabbed serious talent out of the State before, but he's able to compete with all of the schools now. If he gets Roe to chose State over UNC, he's at the pinnacle recruiting wise.
Baker 10-05-2006, 11:18 PM Check this out. I found an article written about Korie Lucious "The Teen Sensation" when he was in 8th grade. The article was written in 2004 and refers to him as "little Isiah." Throughout the article they tag him as the next Isiah Thomas (my all time favorite player! yo!) It's crazy to read this now, interesting article.

8th Grade and 5'9"
Moodini31 10-06-2006, 05:55 PM I don't think Zeke ever dunked in his career, let alone in 8th grade.[smilie=smiley.gif] Uh oh!
Baker 10-07-2006, 12:04 AM Oh c'mon Moodini! You know our boy threw down, they had it on amazing dunks and basketball bloopers. You don't rememer the one hander? You disappoint me my friend.

I know the exact play you are talking about. It was like a tip-dunk right? Alright, I'll give it to him. He's got 1, and he's still my favorite balla of all time.
