View Full Version : Sideline Incident, Weis makes false claim
Baker 09-25-2006, 09:59 PM The incident I'm talking about is the play in the 2nd half when Stanton took a late hit which sent him into the Notre Dame sideline and into their bench. I obviously was pissed about it. But, if you watch the replay. You'll see a Notre Dame assistant grabbing Jeremy Scott from the area by the collar and yanking him backwards when Scott attempts to get to Stanton to help him out. 1st of all, that player has every right to help his QB up as long as he's not shoving anybody. Then, that same assistant walks over and grabs Trannon by the collar and yanks him backwards. Trannon had no clue who just did it and stormed back into the crowded area. The ND players did not like that so a little scuffle broke out. If you watch in slow mo, the same ND coach grabs Trannon by the face mask, twists it, and yanks it down toward the ground with Trannon's head still obviously in it. It was seriously violent the way he did it. He easily could have been hurt. The helmet actually gets pulled off and if you watch, the coach has a pissed look of fiery in his face as he's doing it. It was like he was so pissed they were getting killed, he just wanted to take it out on somebody. That is when Trannon went off and the official grabs Trannon, pulls him out, and gives State the penalty. I'm not about to complain that this would have been a 30 yds in State's favor if called the right way, because we all know they should have won anyways and they blew it. I wasn't even going to bring up the play because I didnt' want to sound like a whinner until I heard what Weis said today.
In Weis' press conference, he claims he was hit by a Spartan football player!!!!!!! His own coach is trying to decapitate Trannon and he's claiming to be hit. He had 40 of his own players in the area, 3 Spartans, one was yanked out of the picture by a coach, another was being pulled to the ground by his face mask, and the other was on the ground because of a late hit by his player!!!!!!!! I couldn't be more pissed! What a fucking douche bag! I hope this replay is all over ESPN and I hope this becomes a big controversey because I want everyone to really see what happened. That guy is a little bitch and it makes me even more pissed now that we didn't continue waxing his ass.
I officially hate Notre Dame. No respect anymore.
Moodini31 09-25-2006, 11:01 PM Like Jethro said earlier, I actually don't even think it was a late hit. Stanton was running toward the sideline and got hit and went out of bounds. Because he's a QB the ref felt like he should throw the flag. If that was Caulcrick, he doesn't throw the flag. I do admit that the ND coach was out of line, but Trannon needs to stop being a thug and focus on catching the freaking football. I mean, he didn't have his first reception until the 2 minute drill in the 4th quarter. That's inexcusable.
Baker 09-26-2006, 08:40 AM You are entirely missing the point. It doesn't matter whether Stanton was hit late or not. The whole issue is that a coach was attacking a player. There is a article on ESPN about it. They showed a video of it before John L.'s press conference and the media said that it clearly showed Weis not being hit and MSU players being attacked by ND coaches.
How is he being a thug by the way?! Retarded comment. He was going in to help Stanton out and protect his qb.
Did you watch the game? Stanton only attempted 5 passes from halfway through the 2nd quarter all the way through the end of the 3rd quarter. Did you happen to notice the weather?
Jethro34 09-26-2006, 05:06 PM I didn't hear what Weis said or watch much after the hit, because it was all ridiculous. I'm not going to argue that some cheap stuff happened.
I will say that a bunch of it probably never should have happened.
Here's a list of stupid reasons why it might have:
#1 - The officials and all State players over-reacted. Like I said, I had the game going on a DVR and I rewound it over and over again trying to justify the refs call. No luck. Stanton was easily several feet inbounds when the guy jumped, and Stanton has proven over and over again that unlike a kick returner, he WILL work for every yard he can get. Had the guy not hit him, he easily could have plunged for another 3 or 4 yards, if not more. So the hit was legit and necessary. The angle and factor #2 made it look worse.
#2 - The walls at Spartan Stadium are too damn close. I'm not just ripping that stadium alone, because it's a common problem. The justification is getting the fans closer. Screw that. Another 6-10 feet isn't going to kill the fans, but it would provide some serious protection for these athletes.
#3 - With tensions high after all the crap that has happened in the last week, and the year before, and really throughout this series, a WR coming in screaming crap in a massive crowd of Irish isn't exactly going to get a warm reception. Almost everyone lost their cool at that point. Especially that idiot coach.
Did Weis get hit? Maybe. I have no idea. Like I said, I watched over and over but I was paying more attention to the hit on Stanton than I was to the melee afterward. Even if he did get hit, I'm certainly willing to believe it was from his own team/staff that was aiming for someone else. Did Trannon deserve a penalty? Probably not, to be honest. He was a hothead but not deserving of a penalty had Notre Dame not gotten all over him (none of us will ever know what was said down there, because you can't trust anyone). However, the Notre Dame player didn't deserve a penalty either so off-setting was an effective course of action.
As for Trannon being a thug, all I can say is that he has walked the walk before. That incident doesn't make me think he's a thug. His high school career in Flint, some of the crap he's pulled on the basketball court, and some of his football actions imply he might be thuggish. But so was Graham Brown, according to a survey of Big Ten players. I'm willing to admit it. Why aren't Spartan fans?

Brady Quinn, Szamardija, and McKnight seemed to do alright in stormy Spartyland.
WTFchris 09-26-2006, 07:20 PM Wies is a bunch of punks.
Trannon definately got yanked back. The flag on him was a shit call. QBs get that protection call all the time. It think its crap (I think the slide should be thrown out in the NFL) but its consistent with how they call those. I didn't see any replays of Weis during the mess and I haven't (and probably won't) gone back and looked. Radio said he wouldn't comment on the MSU game in the press run today, could easily be because they caught throwing some bullshit around.
Jethro34 09-26-2006, 09:55 PM A primadona can't play because of a hangnail QB gets that call all the time, yes. Someone that would rather run out of bounds on 3rd and 2 at the line of scrimmage instead of diving for the first down gets that call.
To his credit, when was the last time you saw Stanton do that? Never. Which is why he shouldn't get that call, because a defense can never assume he's going out of bounds unless it's the last 4-5 minutes of the 4th quarter and his team is down and he wants to stop the clock. The last thing State wanted to do in that game (until the very end) was stop the clock. I'm sure they wish they would have run a few more minutes off when they had the chance.

State was up therefore they were running the ball. You are ripping Trannon for not catching passes when no passes were thrown. 5 pass attempts in almost two quarters. How is he supposed to catch balls? He doesn't call the plays.
I don't understand the reason to make ignorant comments.

I've now been called ignorant, stupid, and retarded.....the trifecta![smilie=headbanger.:
Baker 09-27-2006, 12:52 PM haha, sorry dog...didn't know I dropped the trifecta on ya.
It just seemed like you were posting things to get things riled up when you know the reason why they occured the way they did.
Moodini31 09-27-2006, 01:07 PM We do seem to have extremely different views on NCAA sports and your posts always get me riled up, but it's all good playa.
Baker 09-30-2006, 10:32 AM Anybody catch Weis on Gameday today? This guy is losing all credibility with me. I seriously had crazy respect for him last year. I'm not the type of guy that hates somebody just because they beat State. If that was the case, I'd hate everybody. haha
I seriously can't stand this guy though. He's on Sportscenter today talking about his halftime speech and how it ignited his players to victory against MSU. Did anyone happen to catch the 3rd quarter of this game? State dominated it. How did his speech ignite his team?!!!!! Newsflash: You were down 16 in the 4th and State had the ball on your 30 after you went for it on 4th down!
Man, I totally put this game to rest and I was over it, but this guy just keeps saying ridiculous things! BTW, he refused to talk about Michigan State after the media addressed the fact that his statement about being slapped was completely untrue and was proven so through game tape. They brought it to his attention that film did not show any sort of thing that he mentioned. All of a sudden, he didn't want to talk about it. He's more than willing to talk about the game and how he ignited them to victory with a halftime speech though. What a douche
WTFchris 10-02-2006, 11:56 PM Wies quickly took over the top spot on my least favorite college football coaches (previously held by Bobby Bowden)
Baker 10-03-2006, 08:26 AM Yeah, I can't stand the guy. And it has nothing to do with what his team does or doesn't do. It is all about the crap that comes out of his mouth.
MoTown 10-03-2006, 08:32 AM Even though JLS's team decided to be a bunch of idiots and try to guard their S from having the flag planted in it, Smith made a pretty funny comment.
After the fracas, Smith told everyone at the press conference "I got hit in the face."
Fuck Mr. Front-Butt Charlie Weis.
Baker 10-03-2006, 10:57 AM hahaha That's hilarious.

Is that why he slapped himself? I keep seeing that on ESPN.
Glenn 10-03-2006, 12:39 PM At least he didn't slap one of his own players this time.
Good pull Glenn, I had forgotten about that.
