View Full Version : OGT: Badgers and Wolverines
Jethro34 09-20-2006, 08:46 PM Ok, these are the two most ferocious animals on the planet for their size. Nice fight.
So Wisconsin is on the verge of the top 25 and undefeated. They want to prove they're the same as an Alvarez team and that last year wasn't just the Brian Calhoun show.
Michigan is flying high (perhaps too high?) after the massive win last week, starting the Big Ten season at home.
If ever there was a textbook case for let down game it was this.
I'm more worried about this game than I was about last weeks.
That said, I (as always) pick Michigan, but in a game that brings back many of the questions that existed prior to last week.
Expect an unimpressive victory over Wisconsin. Wisconsin will either have the lead, be tied, or have a golden opportunity to take the lead within the final 8 minutes of the game.
Michigan 27, Wisconsin 23
The Wolverines defensive front four end up saving the day with a big 4th down tackle to end Wisconsin's threat. After that 6 straight handoffs to Hart end the game.
b-diddy 09-20-2006, 09:32 PM i dont know much about wisco, but i think the game wont be as close as your prediction.
for one, we've got revenge on our mind for these guys too.
but also i have big expectations for UM's D. i expect every game they should be out there flying around. that alone should be more than enough against most teams.
MoTown 09-21-2006, 09:17 AM Revenge is how Lloyd will be pumping these guys up. Wisconsin EMBARRASSED the Wolverines last year. These next to games were the ones that destroyed Michigan's 2005 season. It's time for a little payback.

my stepdad is making the drive there with his friend. leaving at 3am lol. if the wis passing game can function it will be a competitive game, and pj hill will be a beast. if it cant, it will be a long day for hill and the badgers.
b-diddy 09-21-2006, 12:26 PM tell him not to wear michigan gear.
i went my freshmen year and made that mistake. and its not the students-its the stadium staff. throughout the game, you could see michigan fans being dragged (yes, dragged) out of the stadium. i went with a big group (50ish). we all sat together. a few attendants came, and tried to make all of us sit in the exact right seat... which is impossible to do when 50 people are sitting to gether in a group block.

The game's at The Big House b. (hopefully) the badger fans will be the ones getting dragged out.[smilie=smashfreak.:
b-diddy 09-21-2006, 01:58 PM d'oh. why's he leaving at 3:00 AM then?
why am i going to tailgate for the game this weekend and not know its at home?

I'm guessing UxKa and his family are from Wiscy. I think he's said that before.

were from illinois, west of chicago. were actually a lot closer to UW than UI, im guessing thats why i was rasied a badger fan. to make it to an early game in michigan, allow for error and time change, they are leaving at 3am. of course they wont be wearing michigan gear, theyre badger fans lol.
detroitsportscity 09-21-2006, 05:29 PM I'm going to this game.
Missed a shot at going to the MSU/ND one too, unfortunately.
Go Bucky!
Baker 09-22-2006, 08:37 AM I give Wisconsin absolutely no shot in this one. They have a bunch of backs, but none of them are great. They have a decent qb, but keep in mind who it is. Their only hope at wide out is Antwaan Randle El's brother. The D is good, TSN rated their D line the best in the BT. But, TSN has had some rough predictions/statments lately.
I just don't see this team putting more than 13 points on the board.
Michigan-34
Wisconsin-13
Moodini31 09-22-2006, 10:51 AM I agree with Tre.[smilie=sayitaintso:(no way! haha!)
Michigan rolls big in this one. The Badgers' offense is even more stone aged than Michigan's. They have a decent rushing attack led by 3 straight 100 yard games by P.J. Hill, but you have to be able to throw the ball to beat Michigan, and that's just something that John Stocco and Co. can't do. Michigan's D will stack the box vs. Hill and shut him down forcing Stocco to throw up some whack Loeffler passes on 3rd and long. He'll be hit hard and often a la Brady Quinn.
On offense Michigan won't be as agressive as they were against ND, but Mike Hart will get 100 yards for the 4th game in a row and Henne will be solid.
Michigan-34

Stinking Badgers-10
Baker 09-22-2006, 01:02 PM UHF REFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH I FREAKING LOVE IT!
BADGERS? BADGERS? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' BADGERS! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHAHAHAH
i wouldnt say stocco and co are bad, just co. stocco is nothing special but hes real good at managing the game, not messing up, and has senior experience. kind of like ?dilfer? was it that played for baltimore when they won the super bowl. his receivers have sucked this year though, they are all new as far as playing time. if you look at his stats for this year, you can literally figure half of his incompletions as blatant drops. im serious about pj hill though, you will know of him in the years to come. hes 5'11, 240+ lbs, and a track star so hes fast. not too many people have brought him down on their own this year, and if they have its been by grabbing an ankle and being dragged for an extra couple yards. anyway, wisconsin probably wont win, they need to get some air attack going.
good game so far, 10-10 at half. and what did i say? if wis receivers can catch a ball it will be competitive. they have, and it is. looking forward to the second half... even if wis loses ill be happy if its close.
id like to add that 99% of commentators are stupid. on mich's last posession, after the 3rd down play wis called timeout. the commentators went on for 5 minutes about how the coach wasted a timeout because the mich receiver was pushed out of bounds. its blatantly obvious that the ref called forward motion and not out of bounds, and made the circle motion with his arm to say that the clock should keep going. stupid stupid commentators, i should have one of their jobs.
Black Dynamite 09-23-2006, 03:01 PM yea great game 27-10. of course we play prevent defense at the end to maybe give up 7.
Black Dynamite 09-23-2006, 03:06 PM This game was competitive defensively. But offensively Wisconsin was shut down. Special teams were in Michigans favor too. With all that, we wore down their defense in the end. But i can see U of M is definately playing good enough defense to win a national title this year on the back of their defense. The secondary isnt as good as 97. But the front is much better than 97. that front line is amazing. i wouldn't mind drafting a LB and DT from that group now.
b-diddy 09-23-2006, 03:27 PM investigative reporting has revealed maybe the world, and especially michigan fans, owe lloyd an apology.
the scoop on the radio broadcast was that the dude who screwed up, or threw, the oregon game from the replay booth had reffed in all of michigan's west coast losses in the last few years... i think he said it was 6 losses on the radio.
i usually dismiss claims that a team got robbed by officials. but this one might have a bit more credibility, if true.
btw, sounded like a good win. im much more concerned about the D than the O, so the O's mediocre output (at times) doesnt bother me at all. just glad to hear our D is still awesome.
it is also nice to see manningham blowing up. i think everyone saw that this kid was an emerging star last year, and now he is. and who knows, he might sneak into the heisman talk if he keeps getting multiple TD's a game.
Jethro34 09-23-2006, 03:34 PM I think this was a somewhat unimpressive game for Michigan, all things considered. Their offense struggled a lot. Henne with 3 INT - regardless of the fact that one wasn't his fault and the last one was just stupid at the end of the game. 3 INT is still 3 INT.
Prevent defense is the worst thing in the world. The announcers put it perfectly. You've completely shut this team down playing your regular defense, why stop? Deliver the knockout!
Good things:
Michigan's front 7 on D are still amazing
Special teams was actually to Michigan's advantage this week - heavily
Far fewer stupid penalties
Manningham and Hart are still studs (Hart could have easily gotten 100 again had they not pulled him with 9 minutes left)
Bad things:
Henne is completely lost
I don't trust them to abandon prevent in the future
Slow start
Michigan must be ranked roughly 107th in the country in 3rd down conversions
At the end of the day, though, it was a 2 score voctory over a 3-0 team, exacting revenge on another team. They get to go for their 3rd straight revenge game next weekend, and Minnesota had some pretty good play calling today.
Baker 09-23-2006, 07:50 PM Wow, Wisconsin's offense is BAD. Not taking anything away from Michigan, a BT win is a BT win. However, I wanted to puke watching the Badgers. Did they run on every single first down the entire game? And did they follow it up with a pass on second down 95% of the time?
Man, absolutely no creativity. It was just bad to watch. When watching in the second half, I felt like I might not see a single Wisconsin first down. Some credit needs to go to UM's good D, but I think I could have called a nice game defensively against that predictable offense. I wish State played them this year.
Moodini31 09-23-2006, 10:29 PM Yeah, Wisconsin's offense is dinosauric, but Michigan's defense is amazing. I think they have the best front 7 in the country. And Tre, you were just about right playa. Wisconsin had 0 first downs against Michigan's first team defense in the second half.
I agree with Jethro. That was a pretty unimpressive victory, but you can expect some slugfest dogfights throughout the year and we came out with a win vs. a tough Wisconsin team. The offense was a little vanilla again (as I expected) but the D is legit. With that D we can beat anyone. Manningham is up there with the top wide receivers in the country. All in all, I'm feeling pretty good about Michigan's chances this year.
Tight stuff from the day-I sat in the front row of the student section, was on TV again, got some dap from Fred McLeod and U-M recruit Steve Watson, got free pizza from a cheerleader, and the band played the Super Mario Brothers theme after Manningham's first TD! Yeeeah!
http://vmedia.rivals.com/uploads/883/F213623.jpg
Super Mario!
Jethro34 09-24-2006, 12:21 AM I totally saw you on TV too! I called up Tre boy. At first I only saw you, but then I rewound the DVR and saw Dew, or Doo, or Do - wow, never had to spell it before. Was Wizzle on the other side of you? I just glanced quick but couldn't tell for sure.
By the way, will Michigan ever have a balanced WR corp? I mean, first they throw every single ball to Tai Streets, then eventually David Terrell, then Marquise Walker, then Braylon, then Avant, now Manningham. I'm sure he'll be the favorite target again next year, especially with Breaston leaving. Who will it be after Manningham leaves? Matthews? Hemingway? Savoy?
Additional note/question: Isn't Tyler Ecker good? That's what I thought anyway. So why haven't I heard his name in weeks? Massey got some action today, and that's after he put himself in the doghouse. So where is Ecker? He had a big TD against Vandy but has only 3 catches in 4 games. He had 21 last season and with Massaquoi leaving I figured he would take on a bigger role and possibly catch as many as 40 or more passes this season.

Super tight Jethro! I heard from a couple cats that I was on TV and had to check out my Media Center recording when I got home. Frickin' sweet. Nope, no Wizzle. It was just me and Doo. Amazing day, what a blast![smilie=yourock.gif]
Black Dynamite 09-24-2006, 03:31 AM I might as well be the guy to bring it up. But did you see Vreaston almost get his season ended by that bitter badger ST player who tried to break his leg after he was down? Dirtiest thing i've seen and dude should get kicked off the team IMO.

i forgot to mention that. as a badger fan im apalled and his teammates should beat him up for that. lil bitch.

I missed that Gutz. When was that and what happened?
Shocking moment of the day-I was in the first row of the student section and and the Badger band took the field right in front of us. As they took the field, they were chanting "Shit on Michigan, Shit on Michigan!" All of them! WOW! That really pissed me off, so I started screaming some choice words back at them. Once they finished that chant, they began to chant "Ass and Titties" before they took the field! Unbelievable!
I guess all Badgers are jicks.
Black Dynamite 09-24-2006, 07:14 PM I missed that Gutz. When was that and what happened?
you can't see it w/o replay. but on the last breaston return up the middle where he was getting up slow limping is where it happened. the guy grabbed his leg to bring him down. then after the play was dead he bent it at a sideways angle on purpose in fustration. bent it pretty far trying to break it. was pretty low on his part.
MoTown 10-02-2006, 01:53 PM So has anyone heard anything about the guy that tried to break Breaston? I still haven't heard anything and if that guy gets off scott free then it's a crime.

guess the UM student section is tame lol. the badger crowd doesnt have a single 'less than R-rated' chant. the two most common are 'eat shit v. fuck you' between the two sides of the student section, and 'were gonna beat the shit outta you, and you, and you, and you you you'. a couple years ago they stopped mic'ing the student section after announcers had to apologize a couple times during a game. its just a wild college town, everyone is drunk, and you best expect some rude shit
as far as i can tell that leg-twistin bitch didnt even get noticed for that. i dont even know who it was.

Wisconsin band on probation for road trip disharmony
Associated Press
MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin has put its marching band on probation after receiving reports of severe misconduct during a trip to Michigan last month.
The school is not releasing details on what happened during the trip to the Sept. 23 game. But Chancellor John Wiley described it in a letter to the band's director as behavior "that can be seen as anything from boorish and offensive to patently dangerous and unlawful."
Wiley warned in the letter he would consider suspending activities and travel of the band or replacing its leadership if there were more reports of "gratuitous vulgarity, sexualized banter or joking, hazing, or other forms of demeaning conduct."
"I say this, you know, because I do not feel I have a choice: we either solve the problem now, and the band you have built to such legendary proportions survives, or we look at virtual extinction for a significant period of time," Wiley warned in the letter to band director Michael Leckrone.
Casey Nagy, Wiley's top aide, said the behaviors in question violated the band's code of conduct and were repeated despite previous warnings from the administration. He said some of the reports were from the bus trip home from Ann Arbor, Mich.
"If these behaviors recur, they are immediately at risk of losing travel to any postseason competition," Nagy said.
