My moles are telling me WDFN 1130 has made a pitch to get both the Tigers and Red Wings on its airwaves.

The $50 million radio deal both teams have with WXYT 1270 is up after this hockey season. WJR 760, the former longtime home of the Tigers, also has thrown its hat in the ring.

WDFN, according to moles, has offered the same deal as WJR to Mike Ilitch, who owns both teams. WDFN will give him the airtime for free, but he has to sell the advertising.

Few expect Ilitch to get the kind of broadcast rights fees -- if any -- he got from WXYT five years ago when it changed its format from news to sports.

In trying to lure the Tigers and Red Wings, WDFN, moles say, also angered the Pistons, who just re-upped this year. The Pistons were asked to move to WJLB 98, a hip-hop station.

Although the Pistons would be getting a stronger, crystal-clear signal, they had no interest in being off the sports station.

i think i'd be kind of sad to see the Pistons not on AM radio. i kind of like the "old school" sound that AM broadcasts have.

If its on FM though, I can capture the radio broadcast (not sure that I would) or pick it up on my MP3 player (lol@ipods).

on a somewhat related note, the NBA had video podcasts for the playoff last season. VERY COOL. the encoding was actually pretty nice, which allowed for nice looking video. everyday you could download last night's playoff action from NBATV. i hope they continue to do it this season and maybe even release a regular season one.

*hugs my iPod*

Where the hell was this info ... you know, when the shit was going on?

Did you have to have a subscription code or anything? Was it the whole game?

i subscribed to it through iTunes. if you use an RSS reader, you can just watch them on your desktop. but, it was cool to have them on my iPod......until the Pistons started losing :(
