View Full Version : Michigan State at Pittsburgh
Baker 09-14-2006, 06:39 PM This one honestly has me stumped. I saw it on the schedule in the preseason and blasted MSU for it. They need wins, why add a tough game. Then I got confident when I researched and saw that Pitt runs the Mooch style WCO. Then the media rants about Pitt's first two performances of the year-mad again.
I've been going back and forth. The thing that makes me feel like this will be a Spartan upset on the road (Pitt is favored) is because I think it is going to be more of a shootout type of game. That favors the Spartans. I am worried about H.B. Blades and their All American corner. However, I think Stanton is going to expose their other young corners.
MSU-38
Pitt- 28
Setting up the game that the Spartans are always ready for -Notre Dame.
Jethro34 09-14-2006, 08:11 PM States chances of winning this game are FAR worse than Michigan's chances this week. Homer pick Tre.
Baker 09-15-2006, 10:53 AM WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW! Michigan State's chances of winning are far worst than Michigan's chances against Notre Dame???????!!!!! You must be just trying to start some convo here. There is no way you believe that.
Do I need to remind you of Michigan's record in South Bend? Do I need to remind of you Michigan's road opener record over the last 10 years?!
You are the only man on the planet to pick Michigan over ND, yet you say I'm being a homer?! WOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely ridiculous.

Jethro is actually ESPN College football analyst Mark May?
Good to know.

You really need to retake math.
55% > 25% (my numbers)
3 points is the location adjustment, meaning the MSU is considered the 'better' team(2.5 point spread), also, MSU is going against a team that has a better D than O, which will favor MSU.
ND is favored by what 8? 9? They are expected to beat the crap out of UM.
You are a HUGE homer there Jethro.
Stanton = whack?
Lemming = smart? (and Nichol = bad?, have you seen Lowell this year? Adrian?)
UM vs. ND > MSU vs. Pitt (in chances)
You are either retarded or trying to start something. I'm guessing you're trying to start something, but if not, wow.
Jethro34 09-15-2006, 03:27 PM Hate all you want, but in 27 hours I'll come back to the site and point out how the point difference in my game was smaller than in yours - that is, if the favorite wins both.
I don't give merit to point spreads. How many times do the odds-makers nail it? Sure, there is science and logic to it, but I'm going with my gut here. I think Pitt on the road it a tough game for you guys. Tre admitted to me himself that he was pissed it was on the schedule because it's too tough of a game. Of course going to North Bend is going to be tough for Michigan, but this is a team that has plenty of experience in tough, high profile games. Just my gut. I'm pretty sure I'm right, and I'll be back to talk about it either way.
As for the Nichol thing, wrong thread, but I'll answer your question anyhow. Why the fuck would someone from Saginaw who doesn't give a shit about State go see Adrian or Lowell? Are you telling me that you've gone to the games of every other QB Lemming has ranked above him? If you're going to suggest I have my head up my ass, at least do it without the echo of your own voice in your craphole.
Baker 09-15-2006, 03:36 PM I think DetroitSportsCity said it best, I don't know that I can say much more. As for going to see Lowell...I love going to see high profile games w/ hs studs. Just like we did last year Jethro at Arthur Hill.
15,000 people came out to see Keith Nichol in his 2nd game of the year. There are obviously quite a few people that believe he's good and I'm sure those 15,000 aren't all from Lowell.
You can see the difference if you watch video of them on Rivals. I've seen tons of video of Nichol courtesy of Moodini. If anyone in the State is better than a kid that throws 20+ tds and runs for 20+ tds in the same season, that cat can write his ticket to the NFL now.

How about you just go to see good football, like many of these QB's are associated with. Lowell just played in one of the best games of the season, vs. EGR(DDB, DeMarcus and Kelvin Grady, Ashton Leggett, so 1 MSU guy, 1 UM guy, 1 mid to high level d1 guy, and a low d1 guy), so it wouldn't just be over a MSU recruit.
Maybe you should see the CC vs. BBR game tommorow(today, now) so that you see Cappetto, along with some great football(and Colasanti and Sawtelle).
Or go to an OLSM one.
Jethro34 09-16-2006, 08:46 AM How about you continually ignore the fact that I live in Saginaw and have family obligations? I'm not going to drive 2-3 hours on a Friday night to see a high school football game when there are plenty of games around here I could go to and watch a good, competitive game that, while not featuring many future D-1 players, still gives me the "Friday Night Lights" and the spirit of high school football that makes the game great.
detroitsportscity 09-16-2006, 11:21 AM Playoffs?
Jethro34 09-16-2006, 07:12 PM Ill admit it. I was wrong about State. After a bad first half, Stanton willed them to a huge win. Nice job guys. Your team showed a ton of heart today.
Baker 09-17-2006, 01:58 PM Hold up!!! If you are going to gloat about your Michigan prediction, I've got plenty of reason to gloat here.

I've got plenty more to say about this game. I was extremely impressed! But, today is fantasy football day and I don't have time to be here. I'll be back tomorrow.
Baker 09-17-2006, 04:53 PM Okay, I'm back. State was flat out great yesterday. The thing that I was most happy about was the mental toughness and the coaching adjustments. MSU is usually not a very tough team mentally. They could have easier tanked it yesterday after being down 10-0 on the road against a very tough defense.
Pitt played the first quarter in basically a straight dime defensive set. So MSU's next drive consisted of 8 runs, 2 passes and they marched down the field for the score. Once that happened, they took over. Great adjustment.
I could go on and on about great individual performances because everyone played great. Stanton, Demond Williams, Kerry Reed, Thornhill, Ringer, Swenson, etc. etc.

I'm reading an awful lot of hype posts from a guy who supposedly has a "negative attitude" about Spartan football.
Baker 09-18-2006, 02:17 PM I'm really tired of having to spell things out for Moodini today. There are only a few dozen posts consisting of the same thing here on WTF by yours truly, but I'll spell it out again for ya.
Am I a MSU fan? Yes.
Do I want them to win? Yes.
Do I get excited when they win? Yes.
Do I hope for the best? Yes.
Do I like to talk Spartan football? Yes.
Do I expect another mental collapse and disappointing season? Yes. History has taught me to expect this.
You know my take on MSU, why post stupid responses like that?
Moodini31 09-18-2006, 07:42 PM All I know is that you say you have a negative outlook on Sparty football, and I come on here after a win vs. whack-ass Pitt, and you are talking about Stanton in the Heisman thread, looking for some major dap for the O-line, hyping the hell out of Nichol, and I see a post saying State played flat out great. Sounds like a Sparty slappy to me.
Baker 09-18-2006, 07:52 PM If ANYTHING, you should consider me NOT Spartan slappy because I'm not buying into big dreams like the rest of the Spartan faithful. I'm being realistic.
Am I not allowed to be excited when my team performs very well? Just because I'm not predicting BT titles and National Championships doesn't take my right away to be excited when they play well.
If I've learned anything from the Wolverine fans it's that they follow their leader and bitch about everything.
I've predicted doom before and the Wolverines here claimed I was just covering for possible losses. I get excited and predict wins and I'm a homer. I'm realistic, yet support my team and get excited about them and another Wolverine is bitching.
The self admitted King of hot and cold tries to call out DrTre for flip flopping. Interesting.
Baker 09-18-2006, 07:55 PM By the way, "whack ass Pitt" ???? I know tons of whack ass teams featuring 2 defensive All Americans, an Elite 11 quarterback, and two consecutive Top 10 recruiting classes.
I guess we should have strengthened our schedule like mighty Michigan and played Ball State for our other non conference opponent.
