View Full Version : NBA Gossip Central (juicy off the court stuff)
Glenn 07-06-2006, 01:41 PM I pulled this out of an old thread. When you find some juicy NBA gossip, post it here.

Some you might know who "Miss India" is. She's Fox Sports Radio's "NBA Gossip Correspondent". She appears on Steve Czaban's show every week and talks about parties that she attends with NBA players, basically anything is fair game (she is also dating Mike Sweetney).
Anyways, today she said that Eddy Curry has completely let himself go (again, she's dating Sweetney). She estimates that he's at 360 lbs+ easily.
She also said that Steve Francis' crew and Melo's crew almost got in a major brawl at a recent party. Apparently Melo & his boys were sitting at Steve's table and refused to move when Francis showed up.
Good stuff.
b-diddy 07-06-2006, 01:55 PM lol, those are the stories of the nba i want to hear more of.
though this wouldnt be the first time curry was rumored to balloon. i hope, for his life's sake, its not true.

BUSTED: NBA'S JACKIE BUTLER STEALS WOMANS JACKET
****EXCLUSIVE****
August 18. Chandra S, a faithful reader of MediaTakeOut.com, thought that she found her Prince Charming when she met NBA forward Jackie Butler. But she soon realized that the bulky ballplayer was more like the Prince of Thieves.
Chandra first met NY Knicks forward Jackie Butler at Jay Z's 40/40 Club a few months ago. The 6-foot-10 inch 260 pound Butler, who has since been traded (WRONG!! -HB) to the San Antonio Spurs, seemed to be immediately taken by the lovely Chandra. According to her, "when he first saw me his eyes opened up really wide."
After a night of good conversation, Chandra and the chubby forward decided to go back to his place - and that's when things began to go wrong. Chandra explained, "he was coming on to me very strong and I told him I was tipsy." And when she finally agreed to have sex with him, it wasn't at all what she bargained for. Chandra tells us, "he laid on top of me with all his weight ... breathing hard like he was out of control and kissing on my neck." And after it was all over she claims, "I went into the bathroom to spit several times and then I finally threw up."
When Chandra got home the next day she realized that she forgot her $600 Avirex jacket in Butler's jeep. She immediately contacted Butler and asked him to return the jacket, but he refused. Chandra, a receptionist, even offered to pay to have the jacket shipped to her, but the $7 million NBA player still refused. Finally, Butler stopped taking her calls.
Under most circumstances this would be the end of the story - with the millionaire ballplayer getting to keep Chandra's jacket. But MediaTakeOut.com wouldn't let that happen. We contacted officials from the New York Knicks, the San Antonio Spurs and the National Basketball Association, and demanded answers. A representative for the Spurs told MediaTakeOut.com that the team is withholding comment on this incident until they conduct their own investigation. The NBA and the NY Knicks have yet to respond.
Butler averaged just 5.3 points per game last year in a very disappointing season with the NY Knicks. And last month the Knicks decided that they'd seen enough of the young forward - shipping him off to the San Antonio Spurs, where he's likely to ride the bench.
If a celebrity has done you wrong and you want MediaTakeOut.com to help you resolve it, email us at help@mediatakeout.com.
LMAO about the bolded blue part. Think this was written by a Knicks fan?

NBA MOTHERS RESOLVE DUI CASES: Amare Stoudemire’s mom sentenced to three years in prison; LeBron’s mother gets community service.
(May 30, 2006)
The mother of Phoenix Suns star Amare Stoudemire was sentenced Friday to three years in prison in a drunken driving case, while LeBron James’ mom was found guilty of four charges stemming from an incident in which her SUV hit an unmarked police vehicle.
Carrie Mae Stoudemire, who appeared in court wearing a black-and-white prison uniform and sporting blond dreadlocks, was arrested in October after crashing into a barricade on Interstate 10 in Arizona.
The 50-year-old, charged with two counts of aggravated DUI, pleaded guilty to one count, while the second charge was dropped in a plea deal. In addition to the prison time, commissioner Aimee Anderson ordered Stoudemire to pay about $2,500 in fines. She’ll receive 162 days credit for time served.
Meanwhile, 38-year-old Gloria James of Green, Ohio pleaded no contest in Municipal Court to reckless operation, speeding, disorderly conduct and a reduced count - originally drunken-driving - of physical control of a motor vehicle under the influence. A fifth count of damaging police property was dismissed.

Gloria James' mugshot.
Officers said James was weaving and nearly hit their unmarked vehicle Jan. 20with her Cadillac Escalade. When stopped, she smelled of alcohol, struggled as officers handcuffed her and kicked the window of a patrol car off its track, police said.
Judge Lynne Callahan suspended all but three days of a six-month jail term and said the three remaining days can be served by taking a class on the dangers of drugs and alcohol use. Her license was suspended until Jan. 20.
James also must perform 100 hours of community service, pay more than $400in fines and costs and pay for $150 in damage to the police cruiser.
Black Dynamite 08-23-2006, 05:28 PM August 9. Rumors are swirling all over the internet that Nikki "Hoopz" Alexander (from VH1's hit series Flavor Of Love) is pregnant - and the father of the child is the Miami Heat's star player Dwyane Wade. MediaTakeOut.com spoke exclusively with a close friend of Wade who categorically denies that baller had any relationship with Hoopz.
According to Wade's pal, the Miami hoopster was never intimate with Hoopz. The source tells MediaTakeOut.com, "everyone already knows that Hoopz has had sex with at least 3 NBA players ... but [Dwyane Wade] never touched her." Our source explained, "Dwyane loves his wife and he's probably the only player that doesn't cheat." When told that Hoopz is reportedly pregnant, the tipster said, "if that girl is pregnant, she may have to go on Maury to find her baby daddy."
And Wade's freind might have a point. Since being on Flavor Of Love, Hoopz seems to have been romantically linked to a virtual who's who in Black celebrities. Earlier this year she was reported to have engaged in a ménage-a-trois that included Tip "T.I." Harris and a video vixen. And a few weeks ago she was spotted cozying up to Houston rapper Slim Thug. And last month, Hoopz was reported to have began an intimate relationship with the very married NBA All-Star Allen Iverson.

Iverson, others sued in Hampton '05 assaults
Suits allege the NBA star, his business manager and promotional firm were negligent by hiring "dangerous individuals" to provide security.
BY SHAWN DAY
247-4816
August 30, 2006
HAMPTON -- Four people have filed lawsuits seeking a combined $2.4 million from NBA star Allen Iverson, his promotional company, his business manager and security team members in connection with assaults at a Hampton nightclub last year.
The suits stem from a July 9, 2005, event at Crabbers Restaurant and Sports Lounge. In papers filed late Monday in Hampton Circuit Court, the plaintiffs alleged that they were assaulted that night by members of a security team known as "The Horsemen." The group was hired by Iverson, Gary D. Moore and Crossover Promotions Inc. to provide security for the gathering at Crabbers, the complaints show.
Plaintiffs Priest Brown and Robin Isman allege that members of The Horsemen attacked them as they left the club. The two other plaintiffs, Arthur D. Simmons and Daryl Cooper, were attacked without provocation on the Crabbers dance floor, said Stephen W. Bricker, a Richmond-based attorney who represents the four plaintiffs.
Iverson, Moore and Crossover Promotions were named as defendants in the suits because they were negligent in hiring "dangerous individuals" to control a crowd.
Iverson, Moore and the company knew - or should have known - "The Horsemen had evidenced a propensity and inclination towards unprovoked violence and attacks upon peaceful individuals," according to the complaints.
In his first visit in four years to the area where he grew up, Iverson was on the Peninsula that weekend in 2005 for a summer charity event.
On the night of the Crabbers event, the basketball star donned a "few hundred thousand dollars in jewelry as he mixed and mingled with fans and friends" at the nightclub, according to a report published in the Daily Press at the time.
Crabbers manager and owner Ellen Abbitt said Tuesday she heard that Iverson's bodyguards beat up some people that night. She said she knew of two people who had been beaten and described the attacks as "uncalled for."
Court records show police arrested James Randolph, a member of The Horsemen named in one suit, and charged him with maiming on July 10, 2005. Randolph was convicted in September on one count of assault and battery.
Terrence Williams, a supervisor of The Horsemen, is named as a defendant in all four suits, as are Iverson, Moore and Suffolk-based Crossover Promotions.
Bricker, the plaintiffs' attorney, said Brown and Isman were told to leave the club and were walking outside when they were hit. Brown was thrown to the ground, where members of The Horsemen repeatedly kicked and punched him, he said.
"His face looked like sausage," Bricker said. "It was all swelled up. He still has some nerve damage."
Isman was "cold-cocked," suffering one swift punch to her face that injured her nose, he said.
Meanwhile, inside the club, Simmons and Cooper were on the dance floor when members of The Horsemen attacked them, the attorney said. Simmons was punched, while Cooper was punched and hit with a chair, Bricker said.
Shortly after the incident at Crabbers, Iverson told the Daily Press, "It's real hard for me to do events at home because people see that it's me and they feel like my life is theirs once they see me. And it's not like that. People can't understand when a security guard tells them no.
"People say they love me, but if you love me, then you can understand when somebody tells you no."
Neither Iverson nor his attorney, Alan Milstein, could be reached for comment late Tuesday.
Moore, Iverson's business manager and president of Crossover Promotions, didn't return messages seeking comment.
Each plaintiff is requesting a jury trial and $600,000 in damages, as well as legal fees, according to their complaints.

Artest makes a play for custody of his son
A lot of NBA players make a fast break from their girlfriends once the ladies get pregnant. But bad-boy hoop star Ron Artest wants his baby mama to hand over their child to him.
The Sacramento King has long had a love-hate relationship with Jennifer Palma, the mother of his young son Jeron. The couple, who dated when he was at St. John's, fell out in May 2002, after she alleged that he grabbed her around the neck. No charges were filed, but Artest, then with the Indiana Pacers, surrendered to police after Palma claimed he'd violated a protection order by leaving her a message in which he warned, "If you don't call me back, I'm going to have to hurt you."
Harassment and contempt charges were later dropped, and Artest went through anger-management counseling.
Relations between Artest and Palma improved — but maybe not as much as he wanted them to. According to a friend of Palma, Artest wanted to keep sleeping with her, even though he is married to Kimsha, the mother of his other three children.
"They were pretty intimate as of a few months ago," the friend tells us. "But then she started seeing someone else and she told Ron, 'No.'"
Artest apparently doesn't back down easily. As you surely remember, he was suspended for an NBA-record 73 games after he stormed into the stands to confront a man who threw a drink at him during a game against the Detroit Pistons.
"Ron charged that Jennifer was denying him access to his child," says the friend.
Soon after, Artest went to family court in Queens, where Palma was living, and filed a motion seeking full physical custody of the boy. (He was representing himself. Apparently, he was feeling the pinch of having lost almost $5 million in salary during his suspension.)
Artest also began to withhold Palma's $2,800-a-month housing support. "Jennifer was living with her family at the time," says Palma's lawyer, Sergio Villaverde. "She was saving to buy a house, which she now needs because she's moved to California.
"Mr. Artest has seen his child intermittently," says Villaverde. "The person best equipped to take care of the child is the mother. Considering Mr. Artest's history of psychological and anger-management issues, his request borders on frivolous."
Artest has now hired a lawyer, Elisabeth Vreeburg, who declined to comment on the case. Asked if Artest had been hopping between the beds of his children's mothers, she said, "I've never heard that."
Considering Mr. Artest's history of psychological and anger-management issues, his request borders on frivolous.
yikes. child custody battles are never pretty...

Coach's daughter arrested on possession complaint
September 26, 2006
EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- The 19-year-old daughter of Hornets coach Byron Scott was arrested on a misdemeanor complaint of marijuana possession.
Londen B. Scott was arrested Sunday at a site where homes were being constructed, police spokeswoman Glynda Chu said Tuesday.
The complaint is expected to be filed in municipal court. Chu she did not have information on how quickly Scott was released from jail or information about bail.
The Oklahoman first reported the arrest on its Web site.
Chu said Scott was behind the wheel of a sport utility vehicle with a 21-year-old Stillwater man when an officer approached and detected burning marijuana. Scott, of Edmond, was found to have less than 2 grams of marijuana in a zippered pouch attached to her car keys, Chu added.
The Hornets were displaced from New Orleans last year by Hurricane Katrina. This season they will play 35 home games in Oklahoma City and the other six, including the season opener, in New Orleans.

The Dirty Details of the Zach Randolph Case
A lot of people want to be rich and famous so they can have the money and power to do whatever they want. But all too often when people get whatever their whim desires, they end up doing things that don't sound all that marvelously fun, when you step back and look at it.
Maxine Peterson desribes, based on the district attorney's report (in full gory pdf detail) the night that led to Randolph's latest brush with the Portland Police Department. Please, if you offend easily, read no further:
The investigation showed that Randolph asked his "occasional sex partner" and another woman whom he had not met before to perform a simulated sex show at the hotel room. There was some discrepancy as to whether or not Randolph asked the women to perform oral sex, but there was no dispute that sex was only simulated in the show that was performed, Rees wrote in the memo.
The woman who filed the complaint said Randolph was disappointed that the show had only simulated sex and refused to pay her. After the show, she said, she had consensual sex with Randolph's friend and then fell asleep or "passed out." She claimed she awoke and found Randolph trying to have anal sex with her. She told investigators she awoke and "slapped" Randolph away twice. Ultimately, she told police that Randolph lifted her onto a table and had sex with her while she shook her head "no," the memo says.
Prosecutors said the woman admitted she was extremely intoxicated, having had three cocktails and three double shots of tequila -- alcohol purchased by Randolph.
The other woman involved in the show told investigators she did not witness any sex between Randolph and the complainant, saying she was physically ill and spent about 21/2 hours in the bathroom.
A male friend of Randolph's was in the room and was interviewed by detectives. He described himself as a member of the "Hoop Family," one of Randolph's close associates. He said he "frequently sexually shares women" with Randolph but denied any knowledge of money passing between Randolph and the women that night.
He claimed he didn't see the simulated sex show because he was busy setting up music to play on his laptop, but he said he did have consensual sex with the complainant afterward, and so did Randolph.
Randolph's attorney says all of the power forward's conduct was lawful. The attorney for the woman in question adds that he's not sure everything here is something Randolph can be proud of. There might be a civil suit to follow.
My favorite part of Peterson's whole article: early in the process (after a John Canzano column about the Blazers' allegedly training players not to cooperate with police investigations) the Blazers sent 15 dozen doughnuts to the Portland Police Department. They even had the mascot deliver some kind of super-doughnut to the chief. Peterson quotes a department official saying that the doughnut deliveries were not appropriate.

Former Saginaw mayor charged with arson
From wire reports
SAGINAW - Former Mayor Wilmer Jones Ham was charged Friday with arson and insurance fraud in the burning of her 1986 Mercedes-Benz.
Ham, 56, is the mother of ex-Detroit Pistons player Darvin Ham, who was part of the 2004 NBA championship team. The New Jersey Nets waived him Oct. 28.
Special prosecutor Michael Carpenter, from neighboring Midland County, filed the felony charges against Ham in Saginaw County Circuit Court. She now serves on the Saginaw City Council and as mayor pro tem.
Ham presented a statement from her handyman that he accidentally set fire to the car in March 2006. Investigators say they have been unable to corroborate the confession.
Defense lawyer James Piazza said Ham would plead not guilty.

Traylor faces 14 months in jail
Former Michigan, NBA player pleads guilty to charge over filing false tax return.
Paul Egan / The Detroit News
Former Michigan and NBA player Robert "Tractor" Traylor faces up to 14 months in prison after he pleaded guilty Thursday to a criminal tax charge.
Traylor, 29, got in trouble by claiming ownership of two Detroit rental properties that were owned by his cousin, convicted drug kingpin Quasand Lewis, according to court testimony.
Traylor pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn to assisting in the preparation of a false tax return.
He claimed a $205,688 rental loss on the two properties for the 2004 tax year, significantly reducing his taxable income.
Cohn asked for a presentence report and released Traylor on bond. Cohn did not set a sentencing date.
Under a plea agreement, the U.S. Attorney's Office is recommending a sentence of eight to 14 months in prison.
Robert Corso, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, said the agency and its law enforcement partners are "committed to not only ridding the streets of drugs and those who traffic in major quantities of them, but to finding and stopping the illegal transfer of drug proceeds, as well."
Lewis, 36, the head of a drug trafficking conspiracy that authorities said netted more than $178 million in marijuana and cocaine profits, was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison in December. The court was told that Lewis found various ways to hide his drug profits, including putting real estate in others' names.
Traylor, who last played for the Cavaliers in 2004-05, was named tournament MVP in leading Michigan to the 1997 National Invitation Tournament championship.

Wife: Jason Kidd A Serial Abuser, Adulterer
NBA star flayed in blistering court response to divorce complaint
FEBRUARY 16--In a blistering legal counterattack on her estranged husband, the wife of NBA star Jason Kidd has filed a lawsuit accusing the athlete of "years of physical abuse" and serial adultery.
Joumana Kidd, who last month was branded an erratic spousal abuser by the New Jersey Nets guard, made her allegations in a counterclaim filed late yesterday in New Jersey Superior Court (a copy of the document can be found below).
According to Joumana, 34, Kidd has engaged in extramarital affairs with "several different television reporters," as well as strippers in Arizona, Sacramento, Miami, Dallas and Indiana, a Nets season ticket holder, a Nets employee, and a cheerleader in New Orleans. Joumana also contends that she recently discovered a prepaid cell phone of his containing text messages and naked photos sent by various women.
Joumana portrays Kidd, 33, as a sadistic binge drinker and excessive gambler who began beating her even before the pair's 1997 marriage. She claims that Kidd assaulted her while she was pregnant with the couple's first child and has struck her with everything from a large rock to a cookie. Once, after Kidd kicked her in the stomach causing blood to appear in her urine, Joumana alleges that he told her, "I don't give a f--k." She also claims that Kidd resorted to purchasing her expensive jewelry (a $585,000 pink diamond ring and a $550,000 diamond pendant) as a way to apologize for his marital infidelity.
Joumana's counterclaim was filed in response to Kidd's January 9 divorce petition, which accused her of domestic violence and portrayed her as "increasingly controlling and manipulative." In January 2001, Kidd was arrested in Arizona for punching Joumana in the mouth during an argument. He later took an assault plea and was ordered to attend anger management classes. The couple has three children, whose names have been redacted from Joumana's filing by court personnel. Kidd, who was named this year to his eighth NBA All-Star team, will miss Sunday's game in Las Vegas due to a strained lower back. He is in the fourth year of a six-year, $99 million deal with the Nets. (27 pages)

Violence Erupts During NBA All-Star Weekend
Feb 20, 2007 12:48 AM EST
The NBA All-Star weekend wrapped up with a lot of excitement and a lot of arrests! Metro police spent the past year preparing for the weekend and the crowds.
Nearly all of the police force was on duty and officers definitely had their work cut out for them.
Between 12 p.m. Thursday and early Monday morning, 362 people were booked into the Clark County detention center.
That number doesn't include 400 or so routine arrests police make in a 48-hour period.
The arrests ranged from offenses like criminal-trespassing and battery to burglary and disorderly conduct.
More than 140 people were also arrested on fugitive warrants in the days leading up to All-Star weekend.
Some of those arrests came from a number of fights and shootings. A couple of them Monday morning in post-All-Star game partying.
The violence started off with a bang... literally.
Late Friday night, a woman decided to fire a gun in the air several times on the strip near the Bellagio. That set the stage for a weekend of weapons and a barrage of bullets.
Saturday night, shots rang out on a crowded Las Vegas strip, near the old Stardust. A man was shot several times in the stomach, seven suspects arrested.
After Sunday's game ended and the partying began, crowds got out of control.
James Avery, a guest at the MGM Grand said, "It was real rough. The traffic, traffic jam, police everywhere."
The MGM Grand parking garage became a crime scene around 4 a.m. Monday. A man was shot in the hip. He will be okay, but the gunman got away. The night of violence didn't stop there.
Things really got out of hand at the Minxx Gentlemen's Club Monday morning.
Carl Kountze. who works near the Minxx Gentlemen's Club said, "No one knew what was going on. Just everybody was running for their lives basically."
One dancer called it 'pure pandemonium.'
"It was awful. I walked out and saw blood everywhere," said Estrella, a Minxx dancer.
Eyewitnesses say chaos erupted when thousands of dollars were thrown on stage.
"A famous rapper, Nelly, came in. He spent so much money that people and customers were just going crazy," said Estrella.
That sent crowds scrambling for money. Before the mayhem was all over, three people were shot outside.
Police say a fight inside the Tryst nightclub at the Wynn was carried outside, creating commotion.
No one threw any punches at the NBA All-Star game, but off the court and outside the arena, there was plenty of foul play.
More information now on the strip club shooting. Metro says two men were shot, both club employees and they are in critical condition.
A woman patron who was grazed by a bullet received non-life threatening injuries. No one has been arrested.
As for the MGM Grand shooting, the victim did not want to press charges so police at this point aren't looking for that shooter.
Metro says officers were already on duty at the Wynn and MGM when those incidents occurred Monday morning and because of that, they were able to get everything under control quickly.

Let the guessing game begin: There's a hot rumor out there that a well-known retired NBA player is in the hunt to buy Crazy Horse Too strip club.
With the property value of the once-mighty club falling by the hour, owner Rick Rizzolo has a tough challenge: work out a deal from his prison cell by next month.
Published reports had the property worth about $40 million at its zenith.

UPDATE: Rodman's rep Darren Prince just issued the following statement to TMZ: That is just another woman trying to extort money out of Dennis, and I am sure the situation will work itself out in Dennis' favor."
Dennis Rodman is in trouble with the law again, this time for allegedly smacking the ass of a female bar hopper.
TMZ has learned the Orange County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident, which allegedly took place at Hennessy's Tavern in Dana Point, near Laguna Beach. One source says the ex-basketball star allegedly slapped the woman's rear so hard, it left a "major mark."
Jim Amormino, a spokesperson for the O.C. Sheriff, told TMZ, "Officers did respond to an incident involving a man and a woman. A police report was taken, and is currently with the sex crime unit of the Sheriff's department."

what's doubly strange is i was reading this book, Jordan rules by Sam Smith, which is a very detailed look at beihnd the scenes stuff during their first title season, and Pippen is painted as someone who is obsessively paranoid about ending up broke, taking out insurance policies, obsessing about his contracts, etc etc.

Glenn 01-18-2008, 01:06 PM Latest headache for Bulls? Curry
Trouble trickles down to minor-leaguer in Boise
By K.C. Johnson
Tribune reporter
January 18, 2008
The JamesOn Curry experiment took a wrong turn early Thursday morning at a time when off-the-court headlines haven't been favorable for the Bulls.
Curry was arrested at 2:25 a.m. in Boise, Idaho, and charged with misdemeanor counts of urinating in public and resisting arrest, according to police reports. Curry was in Boise playing in a Development League tournament with the Iowa Energy, the Bulls' affiliate.
A Bulls spokesman said the organization was aware of the incident but would not comment until all the facts had been gathered.
Curry was a second-round draft pick in June and had private predraft meetings with general manager John Paxson and former coach Scott Skiles to address his guilty plea to felony charges for selling marijuana to an undercover police officer in February 2004.
Curry played at Oklahoma State after North Carolina revoked its scholarship offer, and he finished three years' probation without incident in April.
Curry left college early because of the Bulls' interest. Asked about the incident on draft night, Curry vowed never to make off-the-court trouble again.
"You learn from your mistakes," he said then.
A suspension is more likely than his release if the Bulls' fact-gathering corroborates police reports. Those state Curry tried to run when approached by a patrol car, then again when the arresting officer exited and identified himself.
According to police, Curry was arrested after entering a hotel and trying to go through a locked door.
Curry, a 6-foot-3-inch guard, has yet to appear in an NBA regular-season game and is in his second D-League stint.

Heart transplant? It's news to ex-NBA star Derrick Coleman
New York Post reports Detroit native's condition is severe
Terry Foster / The Detroit News
DETROIT -- Former NBA star Derrick Coleman was as surprised as anyone at the news he was in dire need of a heart transplant.
"Do I sound like I need a heart transplant," Coleman said Friday "I don't know how this stuff gets started. I appreciate the love, but please tell everybody that I am fine."
The New York Post's Peter Vecsey reported Friday that Coleman's health was failing and he needed a heart transplant.
The truth is Coleman has been Henry Ford Hospital the past 10 days with an irregular heartbeat, a condition he has dealt with for much of his NBA career and has been treated off and on for much of his life.
Coleman, 40, who played with the Nets, 76ers and briefly with the Pistons, is being treated with blood thinners to dissolve clots in his chest. Coleman said once the treatment is completed he will receive a shock to the heart and will resume his normal duties.
Coleman said he nearly jumped out of his hospital bed when he saw a local television report he needed a heart transplant.
"If I needed one I would be calling a press conference begging for one," he said. "This ain't that serious."

Glenn 05-15-2008, 12:48 PM Prosecutor: Barkley faces felony if he doesn't pay back $400K
Associated Press
Updated: May 15, 2008, 12:38 PM ET
LAS VEGAS -- A prosecutor says retired NBA star Charles Barkley will face felony charges if he fails to repay a $400,000 gambling debt to a Las Vegas casino.
Clark County District Attorney David Roger says Barkley will get a chance to make restitution to Wynn Las Vegas to avoid felony bad check charges.
The casino alleges in court documents filed Wednesday that Barkley failed to repay four $100,000 casino markers, or loans, he received last Oct. 18 and 19.
Barkley played 16 NBA seasons. He's now a basketball analyst for TNT.
Glenn 05-15-2008, 03:55 PM Barkley says he’ll pay huge gambling debt
By KEN RITTER, Associated Press Writer

LAS VEGAS (AP)—Retired NBA star Charles Barkley will face criminal charges if he doesn’t repay a $400,000 gambling debt to a Las Vegas casino, a prosecutor said Thursday.
“We’re in the process of sending Mr. Barkley notice that we’re considering filing a criminal complaint,” Clark County District Attorney David Roger said. “He’ll have an opportunity like anybody else to make restitution to the hotel.”
The posh Wynn Las Vegas casino alleges in a civil complaint filed Wednesday in Nevada state court that Barkley failed to repay four $100,000 casino markers, or loans, he received last Oct. 18 and 19.
“To date, and despite repeated demands, Barkley has refused to repay the $400,000,” the complaint said.
Barkley is a basketball analyst for Turner Network Television who has made no secret of his gambling over the years.
His agent in New York did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment, and a TNT spokeswoman in Atlanta declined comment.
Wynn Las Vegas spokeswoman Dorothy Land also declined comment, citing ongoing litigation.
Barkley, 45, played 16 seasons for the Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets. He was named MVP in 1993 and was an 11-time NBA All-Star. Barkley also played on the USA Olympic “Dream Team” in 1992 and 1996.
Barkley estimated during a May 2006 interview with ESPN that he’d gambled away about $10 million over the years.
“Do I have a gambling problem? Yeah, I do have a gambling problem,” Barkley said. “But I don’t consider it a problem because I can afford to gamble.”
He said he never bet on basketball, and only bet in casinos. He called it a bad habit that he intended to continue.

LAS VEGAS (AP)—A Nevada prosecutor and a Las Vegas Strip casino say Charles Barkley hasn’t settled his $400,000 gambling debt, despite what he said on television.
Officials with the Wynn Las Vegas resort and the Clark County district attorney’s office say there’s been no payment and no contact with the former NBA star and TV analyst.
During Turner Network Television’s pre-game show before the NBA playoffs Monday, Barkley said the debt had been paid and he was giving up gambling.
The Wynn Las Vegas resort alleges in a civil complaint filed May 14 in Nevada state court that Barkley failed to repay four $100,000 casino markers, or loans, received last Oct. 18 and 19.
District Attorney David Roger has promised to file a criminal complaint if Barkley doesn’t pay up by June 9.

Associated Press

NORRISTOWN, Pa. -- Authorities say former NBA player Aaron McKie tried to buy two guns despite being under a protection-from-abuse order.
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman says McKie failed to disclose the protection order when he applied to buy the guns in April.
She says McKie never got the guns because of the order. It was filed in Delaware County last year and is in effect until September.
McKie is to be arraigned Monday on a gun violation and a charge of lying to authorities.
It is not clear if he has a lawyer.
The 35-year-old McKie played for Portland, Detroit, Philadelphia and the Lakers in a 13-year career.

The Christies Continue To Give Back While Keeping Their Bond Strong
LOS ANGELES, July 4 /PRNewswire/ -- NBA star Doug Christie and his wife,
Jackie, are planning to marry yet again on Tuesday, July 8th in Seattle,
Washington in a lavish ultra private ceremony. This will be the 13th wedding
for the power couple who have made this a family tradition.
Doug and Jackie have a distinctly unique bond, which spans 16 years of
both public acclaim and scrutiny. Their first book, No Ordinary Love: A True
Story of Marriage and Basketball, released through their publishing company
Infinite Love Publishing, provides a candid look at the Christies' own
relationship and illustrates how mutual respect, friendship, and a commitment
to monogamy serve as the foundation of their marriage. Their book presents
unique advice and detailed recommendations for not only making relationships
work but also making them last.
Aside from past public scrutiny as well as untrue rumors that the
Christie's had to endure, affected not only their personal life but
professional life as well. Most recent was that of veteran NBA referee Tim
Donaghy who refereed games in the NBA during Doug's tenure with the Sacramento
Kings in 2002. Tim Donaghy was accused of betting on basketball games over the
past two seasons and most recently admitted to cheating in game 6 of the
semi-finals that year between the Sacramento Kings and the Los Angeles Lakers'
basketball teams. "I am devastated to now find out the game was not officiated
fairly," says Christie. "Not just for myself and my family but for my
teammates as well who put their heart and soul on the line, the fans and the
players out there on the floor right now. Who can tell what's 'real' and
what's fake?"
"We strive to be positive role models and make good things happen for
everyone, that is why we established our companies to make a difference," said
Jackie Christie.
None of the harsh treatment they face, will stop Doug and Jackie from
doing what is important to them. To mark their 13th anniversary, the couple
will donate $100,000.00 (US) to charity and plan to invite 100 gay and lesbian
couples to join them next July for their 14th wedding to marry in one joint
ceremony. We will be honored to do it said Jackie Christie. They continue to
participate in non-profit organizations such as the BLACK HIV/AIDS Institute
helping to raise awareness on the wide spread epidemic surrounding the
disease, as well as their work with longtime Seattle, Washington charity the
Millionaires Club, amongst others.
"The power couple is also responsible for inspiring so many other couples
including celebrity couples, to marry more than once, we are so happy to see
so many people now choosing to marry multiple times, or renew their vows
privately and publicly. Our hearts warm when someone say's thank you for
inspiring us," said Doug Christie.
The Christie's daughter, role model and multi talented entertainer Chani,
whom recently released her debut album, 'My Dream' is following in her parents
footsteps with her own philanthropy as well. By being named the YMCA National
Youth Spokesperson, as well as, the United States youth ambassador for
HIV/AIDS Awareness.

Glenn 01-18-2009, 07:03 AM D-Wade's divorce takes a tawdry turn
BY JOAN FLEISCHMAN
joanfleischman@yahoo.com
Heating up: Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade's divorce from wife Siohvaughn, his high school sweetheart. In legal papers, she alleges he abandoned his children, committed adultery, and infected her with an unspecified sexually transmitted disease. She wants the names of ''all of his sexual partners'' during their six-year marriage.
Dwyane petitioned for the divorce last May in Cook County, Ill. They wed in Chicago on May 18, 2002.
Dwyane's Windy City attorney, James Pritikin, issued a statement: ``These malicious allegations are absolutely false and we look forward to the opportunity to dispute them in court.''
Dwyane turns 27 on Saturday. He and Siohvaughn, 27, have two boys, Zaire, a first-grader who will be 7 next month, and Zion, 1. Siohvaughn moved back to Chicago with the kids last year.
Dwyane's Heat salary is $14,410,581, according to published reports. He hauls in millions more from major endorsements such as Gatorade and Converse. He has a dozen vehicles, including four Cadillacs, four Mercedes-Benzes and a Maybach, court papers say.
The All-Star has been romantically linked to actress Gabrielle Union, 36, once married to former Jacksonville Jaguar Chris Howard.
From Siohvaughn's pleading: ``Dwyane has dissipated substantial sums of marital property including . . . buying his mother a $2 million church; placing substantial sums of money in an account with another woman; providing numerous friends and family members with unfettered access to accounts with hundreds of thousands of dollars of marital funds from which they made substantial withdrawals . . .''
Meanwhile, she says, he cut her off financially.
Dwyane, named a ''Father of the Year'' in 2007 by the National Father's Day Committee, has gone ''months'' without seeing his boys, Siohvaughn says. His ''failure to spend time with them . . . has resulted in the children at times being afraid of him; in fact, Zion . . . does not recognize or know Dwyane.'' She wants sole custody, and support.
She also says she has suffered ''grievous physical, emotional and mental injury'' from the STD, diagnosed in the fall of '07. (The infection is not HIV or a ''killer thing,'' sources say.) Dwyane and his ''paramour or paramours'' are liable, she alleges.
'Dwyane must disclose the identity of all of his sexual partners during the parties' marriage,'' says her counter-petition, prepared by attorney Michael J. Berger of Chicago. Siohvaughn has another Chicago lawyer, Dorene Marcus.
Says Pritikin: ``It is sad that an obviously angry and bitter woman will go to any lengths to publicly damage Mr. Wade.''
Siohvaughn speaks the truth, Marcus insists. ''A person's public persona does not necessarily reflect his behavior in private,'' Marcus adds. ``Mrs. Wade is prepared to prove everything she alleges. And, medical records don't lie.''
So awesome.

Walker charged with three felony counts of bad checks

Walker (CHAMPION)
The district attorney’s office has filed a criminal complaint against former NBA all-star Antoine Walker alleging he failed to pay back $822,500 in gambling debts at three Las Vegas casinos.
Walker, who last played in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2008, made the all-star team three times as a member of the Boston Celtics. He also was on the Miami Heat team that won the championship in 2006. Walker was on a national championship team while in college too, as a starting forward for the University of Kentucky in 1996.
The complaint charges Walker, 32, who wants to return to the NBA, with three felony counts in passing $1 million in bad checks while taking out the markers at Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood and Red Rock Resort. By law, gambling debts in Nevada are handled as bad check cases.
According to a copy of the complaint obtained by the Sun, Walker obtained gambling markers by writing 10 separate $100,000 checks with insufficient funds at the casinos from July 27 to Jan. 19.
Six of the checks were made out to Caesars Palace and two each to Planet Hollywood and Red Rock Resort, the complaint says.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Bernie Zadrowski, who runs the bad check unit, is asking a Las Vegas justice of the peace for a warrant to arrest Walker.
Zadrowski says Walker has paid back some of the $1 million in markers, but in addition to the $822,500 still owed to the casinos, Walker now owes the district attorney’s office $82,550 in fees for taking on the criminal prosecution, which the three casinos requested.
One of Walker’s Las Vegas attorneys, Jonathan Powell, declined to comment.
This is the second brush with the law for Walker this year. He was charged with suspected drunken driving in Miami Beach in January.
Two years ago Walker and a relative were bound at gunpoint while robbers took a car, cash and jewelry from his suburban Chicago home. Four men were later charged in the case.

NBA star Little-Ears Jefferson's buddies showed up for his wedding last Saturday to former New Jersey Net dancer Kesha Ni'Cole Nichols.
The problem was Jefferson and his boyfriend decided not to make the nuptials.
The New York Post reports that the $20 million bash at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City did not go off as planned.
Jefferson, formerly of the Nets, was recently traded from Milwaukee to San Antonio and evidently also broke off his beard/engagement at the same time. Nichols was able to find the time to tell her friends and relatives not to show up. (Photo by Eric Gay, AP)
Nichols, who a friend said was surprised but "not entirely caught off-guard" got an upgrade at the hotel to a suite. "Hello?! He's GAY -- DUH!!", Nichols sald.
A friend of Jefferson told the Post that he was told by Jefferson about two hours before the ceremony. It wasn't all bad for the Jefferson crew. He gave his "friend" his Black penicular instrument to use for the night.

Yeah there's the real world hot scale, and the fantasy/famous/model/whateveryouwanttocallit hot scale. She's a 10 on the first, and about a 4 on the other.
Glenn 11-10-2009, 07:36 PM She gets banged either way.
So does your mom, doesn't make her hot.

Like I said... pretty much a 10 if you meet her and she's just a girl in town, about a 4 if I scoured the interwebs for hotter chicks.
MoTown 11-11-2009, 04:04 PM It's not even a question - I would mess her up.
MoTown 11-11-2009, 04:07 PM Oh and by the way, 97.1 said they heard the rumor than Shaq had an affair with Agent Zero's fiance. If it's true, this is going to make for an awesome Cavs/Wizards game this season.
I have my doubts, however, because I saw a picture of her and she wasn't RIPPED IN HALF.
Who cares. She looks like this.

MoTown 11-11-2009, 04:51 PM There's more to women than how they look, Fool.
The picture doesn't show if she can cook.
Pharaoh 11-12-2009, 08:01 AM WTF translation of Fool's post
Either the bitch has to be hot or she gotta cook.
If she's ugly and can't cook get the fuck out.
I respect that. And agree with it
Vinny 11-12-2009, 03:29 PM Really?????
Additional Info: Vinnie[Johnson]'s the older brother of former Spurs player and current Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson.

Glenn 11-12-2009, 03:37 PM I think that's fail.
Uncle Mxy 11-12-2009, 04:27 PM That's 100% false. I recall that was a bullshit story back from when Vinnie and Avery were on the Spurs. It's obvious as hell to anyone who's heard 'em talk that they didn't come from the same family.
MoTown 11-12-2009, 04:47 PM I thought everyone with the last name of Johnson was related to Vinnie. I figured it was just a really big family.

Glenn 01-18-2010, 11:20 AM Former NBA All-Star unzipped his pants and played with himself in limo full of men (http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2010/01/17/2010-01-17_jayson_williams_unzipped_his_pants_and_played_w ith_himself_in_limo_full_of_men_e.html)
Nowadays, a lot of people might take a pass on getting into a limousine with Jayson Williams, who pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on Monday in the 2002 fatal shooting of his limo driver. But, 10 years ago, pals who did party with the former Nets star in his stretch allegedly found out how weird he could be. Former Scores owner Elliot Osher tells us Williams once invited Osher’s late brother, Billy, and a bunch of the staff from his strip emporium to go club-hopping. Osher recalls Billy called him in a panic. According to Osher, Billy said the crew was riding around in the limo when Williams unzipped his trousers and got intimate with himself. “There were no girls there,” says Osher. “[Jayson] says, ‘This is cool, right? Come on guys, don’t worry about it. I’m not gay!’” Osher, who’s writing a memoir, says his bro jumped out of that limo. Williams’ lawyer, Joseph Hayden, didn’t return calls. — NY Daily News

Read what he actually had to say in context and decide for yourself. A lot of folks have taken his remarks out of context to form their news stories.

Yeah I read it. "How could poor people CHOOSE to live in poverty?" It's like he payed Ledezma to write it for him. As though the chose to be born into one of the poorest nations in our hemisphere. As though they grew up with the privilege this pompous failure grew up in and simply decided to move to the island nation.
Vinny 02-04-2010, 06:20 PM Understatement of the year toward the end.
How did you end up playing in Japan?
Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf: I know coach (David) Benoit. I didn’t even know he was coaching in Japan. He knew I was interested in playing. So coach knowing me and me knowing him, it was just a perfect match. He was interested in bringing me in, I was interested in playing… And he made the deal happen.
How big is basketball there?
MAR: They are definitely trying to build something good here as far as basketball. The fans really seem to be excited about it. At the same time, they are not as emotional as in college or some European teams. They leave you more room. They seem to understand the fluctuations of the game, that there’s going to be some high and lows in it. That’s a beautiful thing. (Basketball) seems to be growing. They seem to be putting a lot of energy and focus in building something over the next few years. They are always doing something as far as promotion. I think, in time, this is going to be something big. Right now, we get nice crowds. Nice response.
You’re 40 already. Do you have any plans to stop in the near future?
MAR: As long as God gives me the ability to play and I have the desire to play – whichever goes first – I’m going to play.
You still have the passion.
MAR: I still have it. I still love to compete. And I know when to say, “Enough.” I still have the ability to play on the top level. So I’m going to enjoy it as long as I can. And then, after that, go into some type of coaching.
Do you know of any other athlete having a successful career in sports while dealing with Tourette syndrome like you have?
MAR: He’s not playing anymore, but I think there was a guy in baseball called Eisenreich. I think there’s a soccer player overseas that has Tourette syndrome also.
What are the best memories of your time in the NBA?
MAR: When I was getting minutes (laughs). When I was playing. We have a great run in Denver. In Denver, I spent six years and I had great teammates, man. LaPhonso Ellis, Dikembe Mutombo, Dale Ellis, Bryant Stith… A lot of guys came through and we had three years straight when we were able to go to the playoffs and beat the No. 1 seed Seattle SuperSonics in the first round (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lakSEK-edQ), or take the Utah Jazz to Game 5 in Utah. Those were the highlights for me.
What do you think is the perception NBA fans have of you after all the controversy about the anthem?
MAR: You’re gonna have people that focus on the basketball aspect and appreciate my abilities and you’re going to have some that focus on what they perceive is the negative – the national anthem, the interviews and anything I did that didn’t coincide with their views. For me, really, I don’t care about that. As long as I can I can say I went out and did the best I could and stayed true to my heart and my conscience, that’s something I can deal with.
But I will tell you this… When I’m on the streets, it’s a difference from what the media says as far as me being a troublemaker because of the anthem. When I’m walking on the streets, the response I get is different. When it’s all said and done, people on the street know or got a sense about how certain people are. And I get a lot of people that come to me and say, “Man, you had a lot of game” or “You could play” or “Man, they gave you a raw deal” or “Thank you for doing what you did and standing up!” I get that a lot more than the negative. At the end of the day, people are going to have their opinions. You know what they say about opinions? (laughs) It’s like a-holes, everybody’s got one.
What happened in the offseason of 1998-99? Did you receive offers to keep on playing in the NBA?
MAR: Oooh, man, that’s a long, long time. I will tell you this… After the national anthem fiasco, nobody really wanted to touch me. Then there was the HBO interview with Bryant Gumbel. After that, it was like it killed everything. Because that was after September 11. I could not even get an invitation to go try out with a team. I just laid low, stayed at home, spent more time with my family, trying to do things in the community and see if eventually I could get back into it. At the end, I said… Man, I still have a love for this thing and there’s got to be somebody out there that wants to give me a chance to play. And that’s why I have been overseas and have been ever since.
Would you do anything differently if you could go back in time?
MAR: To me, it is what it is. And as long as whatever I’m going through, if it can make me a better person, I wouldn’t change it. Because I went through if for a reason – to get where I’m at now. I wouldn’t change anything. I think I’ve become a better person because of it.
How did you make your mind one day that you were not going to stand during the national anthem?
MAR: That was gradual process. It came through my reading. I began to read more, I began to think about issues more. And the more I read and the more I thought, I said… What am I doing this? I don’t want to be like some type of robot, just doing things because other people are doing it. I began to question, why am I doing what I do? Do I believe that this is the right thing to do? So I came to this decision. I said, “No.” There were a lot of things that I disagree with and if I’m going to be true to myself, I have to begin to act like it and not just talk about it. That’s what brought me to that point of not standing.
It was something that was gradual and it was never meant to bring attention to myself. I did it for like three or four months before anobody even knew I was doing it. If I wanted to bring attention to myself, I wouldn’t have come out or I would have put myself in the middle of the floor. But I never did that because it was something that I was dealing with internally.
Were your teammates supportive?
MAR: My teammates were very supportive. Actually, the night that they suspended me, Dale Ellis did exactly what I did in protest.. Silent protest. Even Dikembe was like, “He’s been doing this for months and he hasn’t been bothering anybody! Why do you make a big deal out of it?” They respected my decision because they knew me as a person. I’m not trying to cause problems. But hey, I’m going to follow my heart and my conscience. I’m like, if it’s wrong and that’s the way I see it… I can’t sleep! Because it’s on my conscience so much and I need to get this thing off my chest. You want to think that people are able to take some constructive criticism. But if they can’t take it, and it hurts me in the long run in terms of not being able to get a job, I still say, “OK.” It is what it is.
What is home to you now? Where are you going when the season finishes in Japan?
MAR: I go to Atlanta, Georgia now.
I read you were living in Mississippi, but you left because it got to the point that it wasn’t safe. Is that right?
MAR: I spent maybe five years or so in Mississippi trying to do things. Mississippi is a different monster. From minimum wage, education, health care… It’s always like on the bottom of the list in America. It’s real backwards. And I got children to think of. I’ve been there for five years. I was like, I can’t keep spending all of my money hoping people are going to change. I gotta go some place I think it’s better for my family. That’s one of the reasons I left. Also, my house was burned to the ground when I was there. Some suspect it was the Ku Klux Klan maybe because there was some Ku Klux Klan insignia that was left there when the house burned down. So when those things began to happen, I said… It didn’t work for my family here. Let me get on that hill. Y’all can have Mississippi (laughs). I’ma go somewhere else.
In Denver, I spent six years and I had great teammates, man. LaPhonso Ellis, Dikembe Mutombo, Dale Ellis, Bryant Stith…
He probably thinks Iverson is great too.
