More often than not black people don't tip over 10%, no matter how much money they have, and no matter how good the service is.

I'm kinda mad my race is getting stereotypic "cheap" comments from a jewish guy of ALL people. Anyway, as a black man I always give 15-20%...though I make no promises to people that "don't waste their time".

my black friends tip well except for one (lol). but after dating a couple bartenders and waitresses, apparantly thats not the norm. my poli science teacher burned in my head 'any generalization is false' and of course that applies here. but unfortunately a lot of black folk just dont tip well. i hate to say it, but it is true from the workers ive known. i shall now duck, but im just telling what ive heard. for the record, my mom, who has money coming out her ass, is the worst tipper i know. i cant tell you how many times she takes me out to lunch, and i end up leaving a couple extra bucks on the table. anyone can be a bad tipper, even rich white people.

Are people suggesting that to stereotype, in any instance whatsoever, is to violate our race policy?

Are you suggesting that my comments deserve some form of reprimand?

If so, please state your case. I'm not angry - just a bit surprised. I thought our race policy was clear, but I'm getting flack not only from more than one person in this thread, but from some Syndicate members as well.

Perhaps this is a good time to delve into the grey areas of the race policy.

Last night I took 37 Deliveries.

22-White avg tip 6.77
9-Black avg tip 1.44
4-Young White Kids (less than ten) avg tip 2.11
2-Hispanic avg tip .31

I keep a log of all my tips, miles, addresses, order totals, notes etc. Once in a while I will note race, age, or if there was a problem with a customer.

From my direct exp, 25-40 yo Black women tip me personally the absolute worst.

Keep in mind I am the prototypical Delivery Driver, on time, smiling, chatting about anything i see of intrest with customer, in full uniform, etc.

It can also be noted that any race that is sporting a "hip hop" image or speaking in ebonics will give consistantly the worst tip.


My best friend also delivers, he is black and runs the same percentage as I do. Although he does complain much more than I do, and also uses every racial slurin the book to describe every person who does not tip to his personal expectations.

Maybe it is different here in the south, we all have open discussions about these topics daily. We aren't up tight or afraid to speak outloud about a controversial subject. Everyone airs their opinion and we have a stimulating discussion and move on. I am the most un-racially motivated person I know of. I play ball every week with every race in the book. We all talk trash about eachother's race, mom, heiht, size, etc. No one has EVER been offended. I guess we just have thicker skin than most.

Here's my story on racial stereotypes, and why they are suggested for a reason, and I think I've told this at WRH as well...

The first day I reported to the ship, we were set to go on a family day cruise, where we get there ass early in the morning, take a bunch of family members and friends out to sea on a big aircraft carrier for the day, let them pretend they are in the navy for 10 hours, and go home. Well, since this was my first day, I didn't really know where everything was, hadn't made friends, didn't know where to hang out, so I wandered down to the "black berthing", one that was heavily populated by black guys, where they slept and relaxed. What did I see, you ask? Four brothers gathered around around a table, playing dominos, watching BET, while a fifth comes down with a plate of chicken wings and watermelon. There was too many stereotypes in that story to make up, and I swear, and TP can attest to this, because I found it so funny that I told him after it happened, this story is 100% true.
