Former Gopher Rick Rickert, after playing well for the Detroit Pistons in their summer league in Las Vegas, has received an invitation to the Pistons' veterans camp this fall. Rickert, who has grown to 6 feet 11, 240 pounds, is weight training with Bob Rhode of the Gophers and working on the court with former NBA player Trent Tucker.

The Pistons also liked Rickert's power forward play for Fayetteville in the National Basketball Development League last season, as well as his upside at age 23.

Cleaves is a free agent and recently worked out with the Detroit Pistons. He said his agent is talking with Detroit, Phoenix and Miami.

Can't hurt to have a guy who Sheed can punch in the face for no reason in camp, that is if Sheed is really capable of playing the KG role in the offense this year.

And just exactly who's spot is he going to take on the roster. We still have one spot open, but I assume if we do anything with it, it will be given to Acker.

Maybe Joe is leaving that last spot open for competition in the preseason?

I know Mateen Cleaves has been bouncing around the league for awhile now, but I haven't seen him play. Is he getting ANY better at all?

My Cleaves Story....

So i went over to one of my girl friends at the time friends house for a birthday party. I had met the girl before but never really had a chance to talk with her. So anyhow im walking around and i see this awards rack and all these pictures of mateen. And i being the idiot that i am said somethin along the lines of "Ewwww....why do you have so much mateen cleaves things....hes awefull....you really need to get a new favorite player." I noticed that everyone was looking at me. The girl whos birthday it was came up to me and said "hes my brother you ass" So yea i felt like an ass...so i left and my girl at the time stayed. She came home later and informed me that Mateen came to the bithday after i had left and that he was informed of what i said. I guess he said "he wanted to show me just how bad he was" or somthin like that. Nothing ever came of it, but it just goes to show you....YOU SHOULD NEVER...EVER...MAKE FUN OF MATEEN CLEAVES. At least to his family....
