Can anyone confirm this?

If true, it must have been something pretty bad.

ESPN FIRES REYNOLDS

By ANDREW MARCHAND

July 25, 2006 -- ESPN yesterday fired analyst Harold Reynolds from Baseball Tonight, sources told The Post. The reason was not immediately known.

"We are not going to comment," ESPN VP Josh Krulewitz said.

When asked how they are going to explain that Reynolds will never be on the air again, Krulewitz still declined comment.

Reynolds did not return calls.

Reynolds, 45, had been with ESPN 11 years. He had been a fixture on the show, which is a gathering spot for baseball fans, players and team executives.

The program already is dealing with the loss of information man Peter Gammons. Gammons is recovering from a brain aneurysm that occurred at the end of last month. The show's main analysts had been Reynolds, Gammons and John Kruk.

In Gammons' absence, ex-Met GM Steve Phillips has played a bigger role on the show. The program uses several analysts, including Orel Hershiser, Tino Martinez and Jeff Brantley.

Last night, host Karl Ravech was joined by Kruk and Phillips. Reynolds usually is on Monday nights.

Reynolds was known for a smooth style that usually was player friendly. He never found himself in too much controversy for what he said on the air. In fact, ESPN was so high on him he was expected to stay with the network through its just signed eight-year deal with MLB.

Now, after yesterday, Reynolds is no longer welcome in Bristol.

Damn. What did he do? Drugs? I'm curious to know the reason

I am pretty sure its not drugs because if ESPN was that sensitive to it, Michael "Prostitutes, cocaine, full-length fur coat and go-to-hell sunglasses" Irvin wouldnt be employed there. SPeculation is that its due to the disagreement Reynolds and John Kruk had on the air a couple nights ago regarding Alex Rodriguez. Supposedly Kruk demanded Reynolds be fired or he would walk.

Kruk has pull as an analyst? wow thats pretty gay.

All I can think it would be about is possibly due to drinking on the job.

When ESPN had that gay-ass live behind the scenes Sportscenter crap, I remember them setting up a spot with Harold Reynolds on location via satellite, and before they went to air, he was asking the people in the studio if he looked drunk, because he came out of the bar minutes prior.

It's a reach, but that seems like a pretty uncool thing to do on the job. Maybe it got out of hand.

There's a Joe Morgan chat at 11 am, I wonder if they'll let him take any questions on Reynolds? (I bet not)

I also wonder if the chat will get mysteriously "cancelled".

Those ESPN chats are heavily screened, no matter who is on there. There are thousands of people on there asking questions and some moderator decides which questions go through to the subject of the chat.

Nearly 20 minutes after the chat was scheduled to begin, and still no Joe Morgan.

They are either debriefing him about what he can and cannot say, or they are setting the stage for this chat to be cancelled.

Should be interesting to watch.

Rumor has it like someone else stated it is a matter of not getting along with people at ESPN. Harold is not happy with his reduced roles, and the other new people who are brought in night after night to what was a tight group, at one time. He said on air a few weeks back something along the lines of you never know who you are working with until you get on air. Also Apprently on Sunday night he refused to go on air leaving Kruk and Karl Ravich to do the show themselves.

If they start canning fixtures and hiring Fox Sports retreads it could get interesting. Next thing you know Max Kellerman will be back and Stat-boy will be servicing him under the desk.

Kellerman has begged to get back, however Fox has f'd him. He signed a no compete, so he is still getting paid by Fox for doing nothing but can't take a job on TV without their blessing.

Report: Harold Reynolds fired by ESPN amid sexual harassment accusation

Associated Press
Posted July 26 2006, 7:24 AM EDT

NEW YORK -- Harold Reynolds was fired by ESPN from his job as a baseball analyst after he was accused of sexual harassment, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

The former Gold Glove-winning second baseman, a member of the ``Baseball Tonight'' team for 11 years, said he didn't do anything to warrant his dismissal and wants his job back.

``It was a total misunderstanding,'' Reynolds told the Post. ``My goal is to sit down and get back. To be honest with you, I gave a woman a hug and I felt like it was misinterpreted.''

The newspaper, quoting sources, reported that the woman is an ESPN employee.

On Tuesday, ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said Reynolds, 45, made his last on-air appearance for the network Sunday night. ESPN refused to comment on previous reports that Reynolds was dismissed, or to provide any details regarding his departure.

``All I can say is he is no longer working here,'' Krulewitz said.

Reynolds, who played 12 major league seasons, joined ESPN in 1996. In addition to his work on ``Baseball Tonight,'' he also covered the College World Series and the Little League World Series.

ESPN already was dealing with the loss of another baseball analyst, Peter Gammons, who has been off the air since he was stricken with a brain aneurysm on June 27.

Apparently, sexual harrassment has been pretty rampant at ESPN. Not only are there rumors that this is not a first time offense for Reynolds, but Mike Tirico was suspended a few years ago for sexual harrassment as well.

In addition, several producers have been fired in the past for their own offenses.

New York Times sportswriter Freeman has delivered exactly what the title promises: an uncensored history of a media phenomenon of the cable TV era, ESPN.

When ESPN was formed 20 years ago, television sports reporting was limited to snippets on local newscasts. ESPN changed that and, in so doing, also changed the way sports was covered, society's viewing habits, and sports itself. Freeman traces the history of the all-sports network from its inception as the brainchild of Bill Rasmussen to its status today as a part of the Disney media group, reaching over 60 million homes.

This is really less a sports book than a warts-and-all examination of a media giant. Despite the obstacles placed in Freeman's path, the whole story is here--the struggles between management and its on-air personalities, the anchors' conflicts with one another, and the sexual harassment complaints, racial discrimination allegations, and employee drug and gambling problems that have long plagued the network. Freeman uses network documents, court records, and (often anonymous) interviews with past and current employees to make this a compelling read.

It sounds like ESPN might be a little hyper-sensitive to the issue. When you have that bitch Linda Cohn or whatever her name is, working for you, one better watch out. She is the reporter who pushed to get into the mens locker room years ago.

And didn't Gary Miller get drunk as hell and take wiz on the crowd from his 3rd story hotel window during the playoffs a few years ago? He's still working there.

So you can piss on a crowd, but not hug a women. Now if HR was warned and told to leave the ho alone and he did it anyway? He crossed the line.

Reynolds set to sue ESPN over dismissal

Tribune news services

October 31, 2006

Harold Reynolds plans to sue ESPN over his departure from the network as a baseball analyst last summer.

"I have tried everything possible to handle this situation quietly behind closed doors. After numerous conversations and multiple mediation discussions . . . it is clear that ESPN had no intention of solving this problem amicably," Reynolds said in a statement.

"For 11 years, I served ESPN with enthusiasm and dedication. It is unfortunate that ESPN has handled this process in an unprofessional manner. At the end of the day, my integrity, reputation and family are my top priorities, and for those reasons I need to set the record straight."

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said Monday that the network had been made aware that Reynolds either has filed a lawsuit or plans to in coming days.

"The suit is without merit," Krulewitz said.
