I am bored and the back and forth on Abreu vs. Soriano is going no where so for the helluva I started to think about other guys who are lesser names persay but could be available for various reasons my only criteria was the player was a pending FA, around 30 plus and the team was not legit contenders for the playoffs. For example I deem the Braves in Contention but not the Phillies despite the records being the same. What I mean by that is there are teams out there who have too many holes or won't add the payroll to get better.

So here is what I came up with.

This list is pretty much just Lefties both hitters and relief pitchers. I know there hasn't been a lot of mention of bull pen help but if the Tigers are supposed to be contenders you can't have just one F/T LH reliever in the playoffs. If anybody wants to add to the list feel free otherwise discuss some of the names.

You know, I would love Juan Pierre. He would be a nice jump start for this offense. He has speed (45+ SB in all 5 full seasons he has played) and can hit for average (career .302 BA). He has scored 90+ runs in each full season, and has 56 career triples. He doesn't strike out.
Basically, this guy sets the table. You've got to love it. The only problem would be where he plays. He has only ever played in CF, and has a career .990 fielding percentage. Meanwhile, Granderson has never had an error. While Granderson can play LF, it hardly seems fair to take him out of center. Personally I doubt they would deal for Pierre, but it would be nice.

There are actually a ton of players out there I like, but more and more it doesn't seem like we necessarily need any of them much more than guys we already have.

Pierre has a high average, but never takes a walk, so he really isn't good at getting on base.

Past 2 years he has had an OBP of .319 and .326, not good. Plus he has no power at all. His career OPS is .725, which is horrid. J. Jones has gotten ripped on for not being able to hit, and has a .786 career OPS, Inge has .768 this year, Monroe has a OPS of .740 and is our worst hitter.

So just say no to Pierre. A Jones, Walker, Green, Delucci, or whomever else would be a much smarter pickup.

Juan Pierre? ROFLMFAO. That dude is an absolute joke. He can't hit, has no power, and he sucks at getting on base. The only productive thing he does is steal bases, but what use is that if you can't get on base? Juan Pierre is a prime example why batting average should be ignored. We can call up Nook Logan and get the same production out of him.

It looks like you just threw a bunch of a random LH guys on the list. So now we're trading for a lefty bat just to get a lefty bat? Makes no sense to me. A lot of the guys you listed would not be everyday players on good teams, so I don't know why we'd be interested in them. We already have a respectable bench lefty in Gomez.

Majority of those players are:

A. On their last legs.
B. Crap and/or one-sided players.
C. Paid more than what they do on the field.
D. All of the above.

Might as well call up Bobby Higginson or Carlos Pena and add him to your list.

Mientkiewicz, Counsell, and Jenkins look to me like the best fits for the Tigers.

Sorry to have offended your vast knowledge and that I wasted your time, do me a favor and don't bother reading anything I post after this post. I would hate to bother you anymore with my rubbish. The guys on the list are guys who are tradeable because they are no longer as valueable to their current teams, but can help out other teams in smaller roles.

I am not sure if you ever pay attention to trade deadline deals in sports, but most of the time it is for veteran role players or guys on the decline. Champonship teams or playoff teams like adding players who are seasoned, and do one or two things good for situations that arise.

Also I explained how and why I made my list. The Tigers have always said they would love to have another left handed bat they never said 22 y/o superstars only.

Be sure to insult the efforts of this writer also since both of us assholes don't know as much as you.

Any chance we could pry Corey Patterson away from the Orioles?

(Sorry, Jethro.)

For some reason I see us ending up with Doug Meintkiewicz.
