View Full Version : Banks to the Suns
Cross 07-19-2006, 03:38 AM Arizona Republic - Marcus Banks arrived in Phoenix on Tuesday night, came to terms with the Suns on a five-year contract worth about $21 million. The deal could be official as soon as Thursday.
"We're honored to be with the Suns and a hop, skip and a jump away," his father, Arthur, said. "We really feel like it's an ideal fit with the Suns' style. Marcus is so ecstatic about it."
Let's take Barbosa from them:)
Maybe they are thikning of playing small
Nash/Banks/Barbosa.
Raja Bell//Eric Piatowski(sp)/Diaw
James Jones/Diaw
What about a Delfino and Minny's 2nd round pick for Barbosa?
Barbosa has one year left on his deal anyways.
Pharaoh 07-19-2006, 03:56 AM Delfino also has a short contract and quite frankly Barbosa is a lot more valuable than Delfino.
I think the Suns are planning on losing Barbosa (they'll keep Diaw) and the addition of Banks gives them a season to get him into their system.
Their luxury tax situation is actually pretty bad, especially with Nash, Marion and Amre locked into huge deals. Add another one for Diaw and the rest of the team will be "bargain" type deals.
What does that mean for Barbosa? Don't know, but I doubt we can get him.
And besides, do we want to trade for him and his short contract?
I doubt we'd be able to re-sign him considering our tax situation.
Uncle Mxy 07-19-2006, 07:11 AM I suspect Banks will be about as effective as Barbosa at playing PG. I'm wondering what happens to Eddie House.
Glenn 07-19-2006, 07:36 AM I think they are going to play Barbosa almost exclusively at the 2, read that a while back.
If Amare can give them even 75% of the old Amare, I would probably consider the Suns the favorites right now.
Pharaoh 07-19-2006, 09:17 AM From what I've read Eddie House is no longer on the radar for Phoenix.
Read somewhere Miami was interested and maybe Denver but that was a week ago (or longer)
And IMO right now Miami are the favourites. Defending champs lost no one and until they're beaten I can't drop them down the list.
(I always wanted opposing fans to give us that much respect and it never happened. Now the shoe is on the other foot I'm not gonna be a bitch)
Black Dynamite 07-19-2006, 11:30 AM eddie house was out. and banks is to replace him. pretty cut and dry IMO. wheres joe D. for the fantasy basketball comment on barbosa trades?[smilie=blaha.gif]
b-diddy 07-19-2006, 03:05 PM i think pharoah nailed it. barbosa is getting a raise, phx cant afford to pay it, though.
i suspect barbosa will be traded for a draft pick (not to us, we'd be in the same situation).
Darth Thanatos 07-19-2006, 03:08 PM What a waste of money. He has absolutely no game at all. :(

If you're talking about Banks please explain.
Darth Thanatos 07-19-2006, 04:28 PM He's a PG that can't distribute, has a terrible A:T ratio, cannot shoot, and a low basketball IQ.
EDIT: He's had a good half season. Good work, but show me more.

so was eddie house, who he's replacing IMO. i know some see this as the end of barbosa. but it doesnt look like more than replacing eddie house to me.

I think they are preparing to lose Barbosa next year (07/08). It will be interesting if they try to move him at the deadline to get something in return or if they keep him and really go for it this year. I think they'll take their shot and go for it.
Cross 07-20-2006, 08:46 AM I don't think he'll get moved. The suns look like they are planning to use Barbosa on the 2 spot alot.

they might have that as an alternate safety net if he leaves. but i doubt they trade him. they like having 3 legit pg's because nash gets nicked quite a bit and they like to have the freedom of sitting him rather than playing him hurt. eddie house was still there because of that, marcus banks immediately feels that role along with being the legitimate insurance if barbosa gets injured. down the road that could change. but i dont think its as much directly about barbosa as some seem to think.
PG is the most important position in d'antoni's offense. i doubt they'd drop barbosa. in fact i'd see them paying him even. but who knows.
Glenn 07-20-2006, 11:35 AM To be clear, I'm not saying they want to move Barbosa, I'm just thinking that they won't be able to afford to keep him since they'll have to re-sign Diaw too, and they have some mightly large salaries on the books already.
If Barbosa wants to really get paid, he'll be leaving regardless. If he gives them a major hometown discount, then maybe they can work it out. In other words, don't count on it.
Black Dynamite 07-20-2006, 11:46 AM ok i think i know where we are far apart on this. how much to you expect barbosa to get? because as cool as he is, i don't think he's durable enough to start a whole season and put up signicant numbers. his numbers are solid within limited time. but i've never seen proof he could sustain it on a 77-82 game 35 minutes per game level(he only played 57 last year). but the nba is so retarded i guess a big payaday is possible*staring at the hawks and shaking my head*.
if he doesnt get injured(which he seems to do the past two years, and thats another reason for the 3rd pg), he may get a shot at some dough. but i dont see him playing a full season. just doesnt seem to be durable on that level playing at the pace he does.
Nash lost his hair over the move, he is so worried.

Black Dynamite 07-20-2006, 03:50 PM sinead o'conner is starting to look a little ugly these days.
Higherwarrior 07-20-2006, 07:12 PM if banks can get $23 million, you can be sure barbosa can get $25-30 million easily. someone will give it to him, unless he has a horrible year and gets injured or something.
he'll get a nice pay day. and if the suns are at the luxury tax, they would have to pay dollar for dollar on barbosa's contract making him even more expensive.
i personally think someone from their 'core' is going to go. whether it's marion or barbosa...who knows. this sets up to look like it could be barbosa, who isn't quite as key as marion anyway. but with barbosa and diaw hitting FA.....they're planning ahead in case they lose barbosa IMO.
UberAlles 07-20-2006, 11:44 PM You can always replace a 2 guard. Replacing length and athleticism at the 3/4 is not so easy. The Matrix is greater than Neo-Barbarosa.
Higherwarrior 07-20-2006, 11:58 PM yeah sorry, i should have clarified; if it's between barbosa and marion straight up, i think they take marion in a heartbeat. but considering diaw is due for an extension too, i could see them keeping diaw over marion if they get a decent trade.
so it might turn out that barbosa somehow sticks along with diaw and perhaps marion is gone. just speculating obviously- it's impossible to know what sort of offers both players will be fielding in FA.
Black Dynamite 07-21-2006, 12:02 AM someone will offer marion max. i dont think he's worth it. but it will happen.
UberAlles 07-21-2006, 12:11 AM Well he can take his 20% playoff FT shooting and diminishing skills to Chicago then. Damn you Shawn Marion, damn you!
