Pistons agree to 2-year deal with Dupree
July 17, 2006
DETROIT (AP) -- Ronald Dupree agreed to a two-year contract with the Detroit Pistons on Monday, adding depth to one of his former teams.
The small forward averaged 2.2 points and 7.4 minutes for the Minnesota Timberwolves last year.
Detroit traded Dupree to the Timberwolves just before the 2005 season for a second-round pick to clear a roster spot for rookie guard Alex Acker.
Dupree averaged 3.2 points in 47 games two years ago for the Pistons after signing a two-year contract with the team.
The 6-foot-7 forward scored 6.2 points in 19 minutes per game as a rookie with Chicago in the 2003-04 season after almost making Detroit's team as an undrafted free agent. He played in 47 games, starting eight, for the Bulls.

Amir's long term spot is PF. Plus he'll probably be in the NBDL this year, again.
Think Fino is on the way out though, with the pickups of Flip and Dupree, and the play of Acker in the SL?
whyt-RHINO 07-17-2006, 04:47 PM What in the friggen WORLD did JOE pick DUPREE up for. I would of loved to see DELK come back. We need a good 3 point shooter like DELK. Dupree is the biggest SRUB/FISH player out thier and WE(PISTIONS) pick him up? Damn JOE-D wtf is wrong with you?

i don't think Delk could start in the NFL.
Black Dynamite 07-17-2006, 06:09 PM yes delk would totally start in the ncaa. otherwise you're being too kind to him. he could start on a remedial or expansion team like brevin knight can. but thats it.
as far as dupree goes, why not. he's a slasher who can rebound. and he's a better shooter inside the 3 point mark than mo evans. as much as i think the job is delfino's to lose. i can't argue with the safety net. if joe d. wasn't going to grab a just in case player, he wouldnt of told Flip that he has to play Delfino. I do think dupree is better than Mo evans. though that doesn't say much. either way if you're waiting until we sign dupree to be shocked. i hope you get hit by a car for being ok with flip"can't shoot or rebound" murray and nazr"ben has kicked his ass a million times" mohamed.[smilie=running.gif]
BIG BEN'S FRO 07-17-2006, 06:16 PM I actually like this move. I think Dup was a decent defender, and brought some energy to the bench in spot minutes. I just hope that either way, Delfino gets some burn, because we need to bump up his trade value. It is going to be tough for him to get any of Flip M's playing time since we just offered him a deal, so it will be a competition between Dup and Delfino. Maybe this is a precursor to us moving Delfino soon. Don't know. Not a bad signing at all though for what was likely the vets minimum. Why not any interest in Ariza?
whyt-RHINO 07-17-2006, 06:19 PM DELK FOR MVP!

overrated. but in your defense so is murray. either way murray and ariza can just......................

either the young guys step up or we dont go anywhere of use in the playoffs. it can't be tayshaun and nothing else. stop trading our youth. instead get them in the game.

:D
feel free to make me a nice little sig with superdupe and a nice red cape!
now back to buis, Delfino was the only guy who could play backup SF (Amir aint ready) so Dupree can fill in when needed...i'd like the move, now go get a real backup PG and call it an offseason!
all i can think of, is that this is a direct reaction from Joe D and Co. not being all together enthralled w/ the summer league showings of our youngins. i mean, why not plug in Amir as the 3rd SF and give him some garbage time? i'm thinking if Amir showed more flashes of being ready to play, Joe D doesn't even consider this signing.
i guess i'll have to stop printing my Amir Johnson 2007 MIPOY t-shirts :(
Black Dynamite 07-17-2006, 06:44 PM Matt they gotta man up. the "keeping the core" excuse is officially over IMO. if we dont win a title and dont get a chance to see what our younger guys are worth, joe D fucked himself over long term into sitting on FA sweepstakes to keep ticket sales up. i just want two out of the 3(delfino, maxiell, amir) to make it into the rotation. give me that atleast.

i'm still holding onto faith that Delfino will get some serious burn to prove his worth, at least for the first few month. Maxiell seems like the only other one of the youngins that might even get a shot at PT. if he can just get that FT% to something respectable.

Just marker in '08, and they'll be good.

Once again i'm lost on how this threatens Delfino. He'll get his shot regardless and like i said before it was inevitable. Unfortunately we didnt trade mo evans because we wanted to. it was because Joe has verbally told the coach to clear space for delfino and that probally offended Mo(boo fucking hoo and fuck him anyways). Mo was still going to be the safety blanket had he not asked for a trade. They had to replace Mo Evans. I wish it was with a starting caliber slasher(flip murray doesnt move me at all), but this doesnt threaten anything. I'd rather have someone ready to go if delfino fails, rather than force us to have to play him regardless and scramble for options if he doesnt pan out or is injured.
Cross 07-18-2006, 02:29 AM The only way it doesnt threaten Delfino is if Flip or Fino dont get minutes at the backup point. You got Flip and Dupree who can manage to guard the 2 and 3 spots respectively. Where does Fino come into? Joe just wont sign 2 guys who will most likely get minutes as a backup. With the recent "fuck detroit i wanna play somewhere else" Delfino may be on the block(although it's probably not true). We replaced Mo with Flip as the slasher.
I don't think Joe's done yet.
We got
Sheed/Nazr/DD
Dice/Sheed/Max
Tay/Delfino/Dup/Amir
Rip/Flip//Acker
Billups/Hunter/Blalock
We can sign both Acker and Blalock but we have too many guards, swingman. We just signed a player who will eventually get in the way of Amir's development and someone who might take away Fino's minutes. Maybe this was a move to trade Fino?
I don't see any reasoning to the signing though.
Black Dynamite 07-18-2006, 02:48 AM 1.)Flip saunders punkass no heart flimsy self stated that delfino will be our lead backup SF. It kinda sucks, but thats where he'll be at the moment.
2.)acker and blalock are irrelevent. odds are not in their favor of making the team.
3.)amir johnson will likely be groomed for the PF position and will probally see another year in the nbdl from time to time. Acker and blalock have no shot of bumping anyone off the roster. if anything, murray bumps them out. though once again i think he was the gayest signing in a long time.
4.)the signing makes perfect sense to me. murray isnt going to play the 3. so after delfino all we have there is maybe amir who is still raw like sushi even with all his athletic ability. Joe wanted a sure thing behind delfino rather than going "delfino or bust" at the 3.
JMHO. we very well could ship delf. but that would force us to possibly play amir even if he ends up not being ready to play a position he just started learning to play last year for the first time. not what Joe would do i dont think.

metr0man 07-18-2006, 09:35 AM Dupree was useless every time he played before.
Even Mo Evans was better than him.
And I dont like Mo Evans and was happy when they dumped him.

Dupree Trade to Minny is not complete, and yet we have signed Ron back.
Fabric of the universe becoming unravelled.
Isn't there a Tiger story where they traded a guy for a "future player" who ended up being the very player they traded?

the wrath of diddy 07-18-2006, 02:54 PM Dupree was only re-signed because his last name is Frenchy.
Black Dynamite 07-18-2006, 06:34 PM i'm sorry but mo evans did not out perform dupree last preseason. they were about even. saying Mo is easily better is off IMO. i'd take dupree over Mo Evans when i needed some hustle w/o someone fumbling rebounds out of bounds.
didn't Dupree show signs of improving his game right before we got rid of him? maybe he had some improvement w/ the bulls or something?
i know it doesn't mean too much since he'll be our 3rd string SF, but from what i remember we were complimenting him on improving his offensive game.
Black Dynamite 07-18-2006, 06:40 PM Yea Matt he developed a dependable baseline jumper and was willing to slash a little more. He was also good on the break.
Yea Matt he developed a dependable baseline jumper and was willing to slash a little more. He was also good on the break.
and from what i remember, his ball handling was a bit better than Mo Evan's. nothing spectacular, but Mo seemed kinda clusmy w/ the ball, when he wasn't dunking.
i think that any off-season move that wasn't Bonzi or Harrington was bound to be a disappointment to fans.
i was initially bummed hearing the pickup, but when i think about how we added Nazr, FlipM, and Dupree for pretty damn cheap, i'm actually starting to warm up to the moves. more important than the name, i'm hoping for some great chemistry w/ this new pistons group.
Pharaoh 07-18-2006, 11:41 PM I'd still rather have Ben and someone like Marcus Banks with most of the MLE, but yeah - the moves aren't the worst thing that could have happened.
I do hope Delfino is dealt for a PG though, because Acker isn't likely to log time there and having Hunter run the offense is a stupid idea.
Maybe Prince gets the job of initiating the offense? That could work, since he's not as aggressive offensively as he needs to be.
Train Wreck 07-19-2006, 12:51 AM I'd imagine that Prince is going to be out their with, let's say Murray and Hamilton at times and will be initiating the offense. If that's the case, we need someone else to play the 3 in spurts.(god forbid an injury to Prince happens) Dupree's probably the best choice out there that will accept the legue minimum.
Not sure how anyone could be pissed... Decent Move.
Zekyl 07-19-2006, 08:48 AM I don't understand how people could be mad, either. He's making the league minimum. I highly doubt he has any guarantees of playing time. He's a hard worker and the guys that were with the team a few years ago love him, so he'll have good chemistry. He's a great insurance and depth and if we decide in the preseason that we don't want him, we can just cut him. It's a no-lose situation, really.
joe D mentioned in his presser that they brought in Dupree because he knew the system, and didn't have to learn it. i assume that means that Dupree comes in knowing Flip's offense (maybe they still play it in Minny?) and his familiarity w/ the players.....that's a plus, since he can come in right away and play.
Taymelo 07-19-2006, 09:33 AM i'm sorry but mo evans did not out perform dupree last preseason. they were about even. saying Mo is easily better is off IMO. i'd take dupree over Mo Evans when i needed some hustle w/o someone fumbling rebounds out of bounds.
I agree with Gutz.
Plus, Dupree is 2 inches taller.
If they're the same exact player, and one is 2 inches taller, don't you take him (unless you need a jockey, of course).
Glenn 07-19-2006, 10:07 AM Dupree defintely handles the ball better than Mo.
Of course, that's not saying very much.

This will be Dupree's 4th consecutive training camp with the Pistons, every year since he got out of college.
