View Full Version : redo the offseason!
b-diddy 07-16-2006, 01:26 PM rules: ben has just told you he's signing with chicago, and wont do a S&T. you havent signed lindsey yet.
thats about it. every move must be realistic. bonus points for positioning us to keep chauncy without going over the tax.
we have 47 million on the books. the salary cap is 53. the tax is 65 (?). we have the MLE (5.25) the BAE (1.7) and a TE (1.5).
a good, but not 100% accurate site for salaries is: http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries.htm
Artis Gilmore 07-16-2006, 01:32 PM Sell the team to Brooklyn.
Wouldn't make a move. It's not like we're going to the finals with this roster. I would see this as the perfect opportunity to develop the bench, while still winning 50+ games. We no longer have to "win now", So, I'm either starting Dice, or Mad Max, With Dale Davis behind them / Amir.
Delfino would be primary backup for rip, while acker would be primary backup for billups until I seen reason to do otherwise. Hell, who knows, one of those guys off the bench could be that piece to put us back on the map.
Call me crazy. I'll call you and tell you I don't give a fuck.
Pharaoh 07-16-2006, 01:34 PM LMMFAO - I think I've done this twice already.
I'll let someone else do it before I post both options.
You might want to post the salaries and the cap holds of the players though, so people can actually see for themselves how much cap room we could have created or how close to the tax we were/are
b-diddy 07-16-2006, 01:34 PM i would do pharaoh's plan and trade davis to charlotte for a 3.5 TE.
i would then wave all exceptions, giving us ~9 million in cap space.
my FA targets would be harrington (6 million) and banks (3). or some variation of the two, im sure we could get both.
i would then trade mcdyess to LA for chris kaman and a ~2 mil trade exception. (we'd include a pick too, not sure which, but i'd make it happen regardless).
with the trade exception, we outbid San An and get jackie butler (we throw in minny's second rounder to get zeke to do this). we could then sign lindsey to the vet min (all he was getting anyway. plus phx was a bluff, imo).
my roster:
kaman/butler
sheed/harrington
tay/ platoon
rip/delfino
chauncy/banks/hunter
not only do i think its realistic, i think its a contender. too bad we'd be royally fucked next year when we had to pay kaman and chauncy. (no bonus points for me).
ps: i think harrington is going to be the steal of the summer. he's a 10 mill guy who'll be paid the MLE.
Hermy 07-16-2006, 01:37 PM Fire Joe, hire K-Stat.
New lineup-
PG-Tay/Fino
SG-Chauncy/Acker
SF-Amir/Max
PF-Rip/MLE spent on random 2 guard
C-Sheed/Bruce Bowen
Tay plays the position he plays anyway, Bowen scores 18-22 off the bench raining 3s while he shuts down opponents big men. Young guys have a chance, and we're ready for the new NBA!!!
the wrath of diddy 07-16-2006, 01:42 PM I'd trade Davidson to Dallas for Mark Cuban.
Pharaoh 07-16-2006, 01:51 PM b-diddy did a pretty good job.
The only deal that I think is suspect is the Clippers (Why? Cause it's the Clippers and you never know WTF is going on there). Everything else is do-able.
LMAO@Hermy's plan - I just finished reading Kstat's post about Bowen raining jumpers for team USA!
And if we could do WOD's off-season plan we'd be set. Didn't Cuban once say he'd pay big time if he was our owner?
I think I saw that somewhere.
b-diddy 07-16-2006, 09:25 PM two other guys who have been under the radar so far are darius songalia and trevor ariza.
i would have given them a chance, too.
as far as kaman goes, i read somewhere donald sterling is pulling a penny pincher and wants to trade him before he has to pay him. i'd think dyess's expiring and a pick would do it.

That's what I've ready too.
I hope like hell we could do it.
Unibomber 07-16-2006, 10:13 PM I'd trade Davidson to Dallas for Mark Cuban.
How about Portland takes Cuban and Detroit gets Paul Allen?

Doesn't seem like it this year. I mean, he went out and re-signed cassell immediately and blew the MLE like it was going out of style. Maybe winning has changed him.
Would be nice to snag Kaman from them though. He'd be a perfect fit.
b-diddy 07-16-2006, 11:29 PM i agree its illogical, but he's got a pay day coming. and it is donald sterling. i think it will likely happen, i just hope its not to the cavs.
i'd love to trade for kaman, but since we'd just be giving him up after this year anyway, theres no point.
detroitsportscity 07-17-2006, 12:36 AM I'd trade Davidson to Dallas for Mark Cuban.
How about Portland takes Cuban and Detroit gets Paul Allen?
Naw, he's a really rich cheap fucker. Not Davidson cheap, though.
Maybe a winner could convince him otherwise though. He definitely has the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. He could own the NBA.
Black Dynamite 07-17-2006, 11:33 AM when did kaman>Dyess to the point of adding a pick? i never got the kaman for president love. he's solid. but not worth the money he'll probally get.
Glenn 07-17-2006, 11:44 AM It never ceases to amaze me how much some of you guys overvalue draft picks.
If you can add a young, yet proven NBA player for any random draft pick outside the Top 10, you'll come out on top 99% of the time. That is, unless payroll is all that matters to you.
Pharaoh 07-17-2006, 12:25 PM Since this happens straight after Ben bolts here's a different take on the 2 proposals I've got floating around on this site somewhere:
1 - Trade Sheed and Dice to New York for Frye and Jalen and Nate
2 - Sign Nazr with the MLE
3 - Re-sign Hunter to whatever we gave him (2 yrs, $2,250,000 per)
4 - Sign Cliff Robinson with the BAE (yeah, it's weird)
5 - Re-sign Alex Acker for another season at the minimum
6 - Sign Will Blalock for the minimum
Roster:
C: Nazr/Davis/Cliff
F: Frye/Maxiell
F: Prince/Jalen/Amir
G: Rip/Delfino/Acker
G: Billups/Nate/Hunter/Blalock
Team Payroll: $60,031,976
During the season I'd let it be known that Davis and Jalen plus our 2 2007 first rounder picks can be had for "the right price"
I'd obviously be looking for a bargain big man or swingman that is reasonably young. If there are no takers that's cool - bring on the next off-season.
With 2 picks in the 2007 Draft I'm pretty sure I coud get capable talent.
Let's say (for the hell of it) I draft Jason Smith with the Orlando pick (#13) and with our own pick (#22) I draft Richard Roby.
In free agency I'd renounce Davis and Jalen.
Team Salary (even with Billups on the books for 150%): $49,000,000
IF the cap doesn't increase at all I'd only have the exceptions to add talent, but I think the cap will go up by another $2,000,000.
That means I can retain Billups' rights and have $8,000,000 in cap space as well!
Roster:
C: Nazr/Jason Smith (#13)/Cliffy
F: Frye/Maxiell
F: Prince/Delfino/Amir*
G: Rip/Acker*/Richard Roby (#22)
G: Billups/Nate/Hunter/Blalock
* Retained with the Early Bird Exception (yes, both of them)
And I'd still have the money to sign a free agent.
And naturally if I have cap space I'm way under the luxury tax threshold, so re-signing Chauncey is no drama
(NOTE: this isn't the best scenario I've posted, but it's a new one)
b-diddy 07-17-2006, 12:48 PM im wondering about that sheed for rose/ frye deal. it makes a ton of sense for both teams (maybe us more, but thats balanced by the fact that they have Mr. Impulsive as a gm). rob parker's moles claim zeke has to win 33 games this year to keep his job. if thats true, a slow start could get zeke to move his young talent. for joe, he probably doesnt want both wallaces gone within the same month. pharoah for president if this deal actually does happen.
Glenn 07-17-2006, 01:42 PM I swear I proposed that deal before P, yet he gets all the glory, lol.
b-diddy 07-17-2006, 01:54 PM lol, if my post is 'all the glory' i dont think your missing out on much.
how bout you two can both be presidents?
Glenn 07-17-2006, 02:02 PM lol, if my post is 'all the glory' i dont think your missing out on much.

Nah, he can take the credit and the Presidency.
I think I've just about posted every possible trade scenario at some point, so there shouldn't be any glory given for that anyways.
Cross 07-18-2006, 01:58 AM Great idea pharaoh!!
And I'd still have the money to sign a free agent.
The FA class of 07 is also suppose to be really good. Resigning Billups and getting another key FA would def get us contending again.
however, with our starting bigs as Nazr and Frye, I would rather have Dice/Sheed but it's much better for our chances of signing Billups.
Too bad we got Dupree though so we couldnt take Rose
Pharaoh 07-18-2006, 10:29 AM Dupree would not stop me from doing this trade. If I had to I'd waive him or send someone to Charlotte or Atlanta for another Trade Exception.
And GD can have the credit for the Jalen/Frye/Nate trade idea, because he did come up with it first.
I believe I mentioned the Mo Taylor/Frye/#20 package for Sheed and Evans prior to the Draft and his idea came from that
how's that for giving him the credit and then taking it back within seconds?
