Detroit is expected to talk with ex-Piston guard Chucky Atkins this weekend about a possible return to the team next season. Atkins, along with Tony Delk, are among the players the Pistons are considering signing with their biennial exception, which is worth about $1.7 million.

I'd rather have Delk

Can't Blalock hit %41 of his shots and play no defense? What exactly does Chucky provide these days? I'd much rather spend that on a backup SF (Butler) and hope Delfino/Hunter/Blalock can man the backup guard spots.

I dont care who they grab for that. I almost would rather have chucky to keep Flip from playing delk at the 2 spot over delfino. But he'd probally play chucky there just to be a douche.

The backup pg shooter role is either/or at this point for me. I still want delfino running the offense for a point SG position. That would honestly be using his abilities(passing and slashing) to their absolute fullest. When we look at a slasher it'll be bigger news.[smilie=reporter.gi:

And I agree with Chris.

Delfino could be a killer in this offense if he would shake that slump he had last year. He shot pretty well at the beginning of the year and fell off the map (probably a confidence issue). If he could simply knock down the open jumpers he could easily score 10-12 PPG in a backup guard role with his good defense and decent ball handling skills.

i agree, of course if you noticed he had his "shooting/overall playing" games when he was running the offense. got people involved, looked light years more comfortable, and started to hit his shot with consistency. We have to face the fact that we are squeezing a square peg into a round hole sitting him on the wing and baseline waiting for open 3's everytime. he is definately a comfort player. ask him to play out of his element and you'll get mixed results. Also its not like we have any true PG's in our grasp, so why not groom him for that role?

we still only have 1 backup for SG/SF...wheres the damn slasher Joe talked about? cant just be Delfino...

i don't like the idea of Joe adding a bunch of marginal guys that are going to take time away from Delfino, Maxiell, and Amir. i say add a difference maker or put your faith in the youngins.

I agree with Matt. No point in adding a guy for the sake of adding a guy. Either get a guy who should command more than the BAE for less or save it. There is no point in wasting it on a guy who is not going to play or who is going to cause mainly Delfino of the young guys to sit. Amir I don't expect much from right now, and Maxiell I can see sitting him for a better vet, but Delfino may be the key to our success. If we can get Delfino to be a threat then we may be able to make a run at the central again.

See I think if you have the BAE at your disposal and you are in the Pistons position, you basically need to use it to acquire an asset that can be used in a trade later if need be.

Maybe I'm just not thinking about this in the correct manner, but that makes more sense to me than just forfeiting it.

I agree with that in principal but it is Bi-Annual, so if we use it this year for S&G's we can't use it until 08. So we either get somebody we can use or somebody that has value to another team, just don't waste it.

Might as well use it now since we will have 2 1st rd picks added to our roster next year ( barring Joe trading them) plus we'll have to be playing our youngsters some or lose them ( or Darkoize them).

Joe Dumars could use the Atkins diet.

At first, I thought, "Dumars isn't that fat, he shouldn't worry too much about his weight."

Sucky Atkins is trash. You might as well have a support column play PG...the support column would get better numbers.

I'd ratehr have less players than more. Young players will never develop unless they get consistently good minutes. F-it, play Blalock 10 mins a game, Delfino 15, JMax or Amir another 10 consistently. I don't care if we lose some games, I want to see some development.
