View Full Version : Is It Time To Bring Back The Teal?

Well... Ben is gone, Nazr is his replacement on a long term deal, there is no money left for the slasher/scorer/free throw line magnet many of us feel is needed in order to be a serious contender, Chauncey Billups will either be gone or will eat up a ton of cap space next year, etc.

So, are the Pistons headed for a slide akin to the one we experienced after the Bad Boys' run ended, in the 90's?

Should we get ready for guys like Literial Green, David Wood, Lou Roe, etc?

Personally, I think we are starting to head in that direction.

I hope I'm wrong.

All kidding aside this would make my grant hill teal jersey look super fresh again, and if we landed hill too. that would be hot. [smilie=blaha.gif]

the downside is that i'd puke on the tv in our first game wearing them.[smilie=sad3.gif]

I think we should forefit the franchise and move the team. Clearly, we will never win a single game ever again. We may never even score another basket again. This is possibly the worst team of all time.

As a guy that has posted my fare share of bad polls, I have to say that frankly, it's embarrassing that this travesy is currently viewable on WTFDetroit's home page. There goes all of our potential new members.

Somebody start a new poll ASAP so we can knock this one out of there.

Truth hurts, don't it?

Taymelo

This team is actually the anti-90's Pistons.

The 90's Pistons eventually learned that if you are going to pick it apart, you're better off blowing it up, so instead of being competitive for a long time, you can be a contender in the near future.

I'm starting to worry that the Pistons in the near future are going to simply worry about being competitive and not contenders. With guys like Rip, Tay, Sheed, Dice, etc., this team isn't going to make the lottery, its going to make the playoffs and NOT win titles - which is not necessarily a good thing.

I know Kstat was joking, but if they aren't going to add a significant piece, particularly a slasher, then what's the point? Why not blow it up? Who here is content with being a weak playoff team, with weak draft picks and probably only the MLE, for the next 3-4 years, before the entire team needs an overhaul?

Look on the bright side, we have an excellent chance to land Greg Oden next summer. We'll even have Orlando's pick, too.

Tay, take another look at our roster and see how many EC teams you can definitely say are going to be better than we are. In fact, we still might have the top starting 5 in the NBA as far as I'm concerned (if you put Dice in there).

Why not let the signing period actually BEGIN before we rush to final judgement?

This is about Mateen being on the summer league team, isn't it?

I should get a Carlos Arroyo teal jersey.

hey, we had some pretty good teams in the teal era. 54 wins. sounds about right.

donut team. sounds about right. big man who will have more points from behind the 3 line than in the paint? sounds about right.

the only real differance i see in these pistons and those pistons is that billups is a much better pg than lindsey ever was. i'll be very interested to see what kind of defense these pistons play. im guessing we give up 97ish pnts per game, while scoring a hundo.

I have to put Miami ahead of us, although they are always in serious jeopardy of injuries to all those vets.

NJ has some nice weapons, but nothing inside. I think Sheed could muster up the will to dominate them.

If Hughes gets his shot back and Brown provides some spark off the bench, I think the Cavs are just as good as us.

Chicago will be tough, especially if Thomas can provide some inside scoring. I'd love to see Sheed (with his length shooting) over Ben in the post.

Nobody else could claim they are close to us even without Ben IMO.

In all, I'd probably put the east like this:

Miami
Cleveland
Detroit
NJ
Chicago

But I also don't think we are done with our roster either.

Keep in mind that Miami doesn't have Mourning, Payton or Anderson under contract right now, and who knows what those freaks will do. But also (Kstat's going to love this) they have also said they are not going to use their MLE this year to avoid the tax.

And if LeBron doesn't sign that extension, that team has the potential to be a mess this year.

I assume they'll be able to sign a backup PG (whether it's Payton, Atkins or some other stop gap PG). but I could see Zo flexing off into the sunset with his ring. If so, they are going to need a lot of minutes from Shaq and he may wear down this year. They have to be the favorites, but they are no juggernault, that is for sure.

to be clear glenn, and before kstat spluges all over the screen, miami is in salary hell for a long time. once wade's extention kicks in, there'll be no avoiding the tax. and i dont think 'not using the mle' is the same thing as not bringing zo back.

Glenn
07-07-2006, 04:09 PM
I didn't mean to imply that no MLE = no Zo, I just meant that they won't be adding another MLE-quality player even if those geezers decide to come back.

Kstat
07-07-2006, 04:11 PM
Well, they obviously don't care about winning. That's all.

Just to maybe get something useful out of the thread, then, do you guys know that one can't actually vote on the polls when they're on the front page like that? At least I can't. I get the error message:

"Invalid Forum specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator (http://wtfdetroit.com/forums/sendmessage.php)"

If I go into the actual thread I can vote no problem but not from the front page.

Its a violation of the Rules and Regulations, you big bully!

PS: Its a fair thread, authored by a fair poster (who also happens to be devilishly good looking).

Actually, I didn't know you'd posted this junk until you reminded me.

You keep talking "teal Pistons" in the present tense and a whole lot of folks will turn your persecution complex into reality. I'm the least of your worries.

Notice, everyone, how he has no defense to my claim that I'm devilishly good looking.

I win another round.

All this losing must be getting terribly embarrassing for old Mxy.

can we swat this? Motown cancel out Kleinfeld taymelo and get this thing out of here.

Also he should be forced to wear teal for the whole season with no shower.[smilie=DAVE.gif]
