Stay grounds Hawks, Thrashers
By TIM TUCKER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 07/07/06
Those are the results of a court order issued Thursday.
The Maryland judge who last month ruled that Belkin is entitled to buy out the other Hawks-Thrashers owners at cost issued a stay of the ruling Thursday, pending appeal, but he attached a significant condition to the stay.
He ordered that, pending appeal, the other owners are to "not initiate the purchase, sale, trade or negotiation of any NBA or NHL player contract ... excluding contracts involving present or future draft picks and contracts for any other player with a contract duration of one year or less."
Montgomery County (Md.) Circuit Court Judge Eric Johnson said in court that the order would not apply to players with whom negotiations already have been initiated, meaning, for example, that the Hawks apparently are free to complete their planned signing of free-agent point guard Speedy Claxton to a multiyear contract.
Maybe we could get him cheap(would have to be a 3 way, though, as we don't have the expirings).
Mo Taylor and Danny Fortson seem like the most likely candidates.

Sheed for Frye and Mo Taylor. Then Mo Taylor for Al Harrington... Do it Joe. Save the franchise. We'd be Charmin soft, but young and talented.
b-diddy 07-07-2006, 12:42 AM the court order specifically says "not initiate the purchase, sale, trade".
what the hell are you talking about? now that we're legally barred from doing a sign & trade with atl, its the time to pursue it? lol, good thinking.
i think nows the time to move up in the draft and grab rudy gay.
Anthony 07-07-2006, 12:47 AM Wait....what the hell is this? Whats going on in ATL?
b-diddy 07-07-2006, 01:01 AM a court ordered that belkin is allowed to purchase the full ownership of the hawks. its being appealed right now. but until this is resolved, theyre basically barred from making anymore moves (unless they were working on them at the time of the "stay" order). good timing for a lawsuit. as mad as i am at the pistons, i can still happilly say it could be worse.

EXCEPT THOSE THAT END AFTER THIS YEAR.
So he can still be traded, but not for anyone with a multi year contract. Therefor us doing a 3 way with a bigger expiring.
Or Dyess could guaruntee that he is opting out, and we could do Davis, Dyess, and a pick.
b-diddy 07-07-2006, 02:05 AM i read the article. you might be right, but i think its moot. the order could be read either way, and technically, if they did a S&T with us, they would be signing harrington's deal for multi-years themselves, which might be a no-no. i doubt any hawks executive is willing to face contempt of court charges so they can do the detroit pistons a big favor.
its not happening.

You are correct sir. Though it sounds more likely that they let him walk by the sounds of it. Could get interesting since the capspace teams have mostly used it up. He could be screwed.

mo taylor and channing frye? no we're not that damn soft that we need to get softer just so we can be younger(i'm sorry but frye and mo are as soft as it gets). Keep sheed and pay no attention to atlantas issues at the moment. If harrington wants to sign with us, cool. but nothing to hold our breath about. honestly i just want one good slasher with no trades involved. get that and see what we can do with the youth we have. no adding more youth, we have enough youngsters on the team to develop as it is.
Pharaoh 07-07-2006, 03:21 AM Yeah, Delfino, Maxiell and Amir is enough youth.
What?
Right now we're a playoff team, but I don't expect us to get past the second round.
And some here think the Orlando pick will be in the mid to late teens come June 2007, which doesn't get us much help for the following season.
Consider that Billups will want a ton of cash as well and what you're looking at right now could be our team for the next few years.
Some are going to be happy about being a playoff team and not contenders but others are gonna be pissed that we've become the Pacers.
Black Dynamite 07-07-2006, 03:28 AM well Phar somebody we drafted had to eventually step up. It can't be tay forever as the lone project that stuck around. if maxiell can step up along with delfino, we are in serious business. if amir's pure athletic skill gets a chance to shine that wouldnt hurt either. Shit i'm even pulling for wallace's nephew to get a shot.
Theres alot of questions left to be answered. I think its premature to say we are stuck for the next 2 years. maybe this year. but i could see competing again next year if any 2 of our youth guys pan out.
Pharaoh 07-07-2006, 03:33 AM Well, that's a nice thought and I hope that Delfino, Max and Amir all step up this season as they get used to the league and learn how to apply their skills.
However, I think it's rather optimistic to believe we're anything more than second round fodder.
I'm not saying making the playoffs every season is a bad thing.
Not being contenders is the bad thing.

you gets no argument from me this year. but the next year i'm not so willing to concede us as playoff only.

I think that they'll trade him if at all possible.
And if he walks, it would probably be for the MLE, which would be complete shit for us, as he could go to Indy.
Davis, Dyess(agreed to opt out), and a 1st('08) for Al.
Or
The Sheed stuff already proposed.
younger and better is a good system if possible.
Marc Stein says Indy is the "front runner" for Al so far.

Al Harrington, a forward who played the first six seasons of his NBA career with the Pacers, is one of their primary targets. The feeling is mutual. "I know there has been some interest there in Indiana," Harrington said when reached by telephone late Saturday night at his offseason home in Los Angeles. "I've always considered Indiana home. To come back, it would be like I never left."
Harrington said he doesn't have a salary goal for his next contract, and is primarily focused on returning to a winning environment. The Hawks were 13-69 two seasons ago and 26-56 last season. "Whatever's fair," he said. "My biggest thing is I want to be in position to win again. Be in the playoffs and start competing for a championship again. My happiness is the most important thing."
Should the Pacers find a way to obtain Harrington, they would likely have a starting frontline of Harrington, O'Neal and Danny Granger. That would be dangerous," Harrington said. "That would be really dangerous." Moments later, Harrington had to cut short the conversation. The display on his cell phone showed that O'Neal was calling.

Atlanta Hawks free-agent forward Al Harrington told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the Warriors, along with Indiana, were the two teams in heaviest pursuit of his services. The Warriors also are known to have contacted Jeff Fried, the agent of Seattle free-agent power forward Chris Wilcox, to express their interest. The Warriors' interest in those players not only illustrates the team's desire to get more athletic on the frontline, it also underscores that they're shopping power forward Troy Murphy, the team's most attractive-but-expendable player. Harrington and Wilcox are power forwards, though Harrington has the skills to play small forward. Both are athletic specimens who can run the floor and finish above the rim, a contrast to Murphy's methodical, perimeter-shooting attack.

I don't see Philly getting market value for AI. I think when he gets dealt it'll end up being for young pieces and picks.

If it's for the MLE, then they would probably be.
But their ability to trade for him flew out the door with Croshere, at least while this court order is in effect.

This is for Harrington and Atlanta.
Also, Tinsley and Granger aren't allowed to go to Atlanta if you read the article.

Nah, Granger is basically untouchable.
Hawks need another point let alone whos on the books for a while? They got Claxton, Salim Stoudemire, and JJ could play some 1.
Uncle Mxy 07-07-2006, 05:35 PM I'm wondering if Claxton renegs on his deal... he has a perfect 'out' if he wanted to.
This is what I have heard, I am no legal expert, so this is coming from somebody close to the situation. ATL can sign and trade AL but only for a player who is expiring or signed to a deal that has options after this year that the team has the choice to excercise. They can acquire TE's and picks also without trouble.
Also they can pettion the court to be given case by case permission via Belkin until this is resolved fully. It is also believed that David Stern is sending in his legal team to have this resolved since it blocks the NBA from functioning properly in terms of the CBA that was agreeded upon.

http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/sports/basketball/nba/golden_state_warriors/15019524.htm
Free and clear
The road was made easier for the Warriors to acquire Atlanta Hawks free agent forward Al Harrington. A Maryland judge revised his recent ruling that the Hawks could not initiate any multiyear contracts other than for their draft picks. So Atlanta is free to sign Harrington to whatever deal he works out with another team and then trade him to that team, provided that contract doesn't exceed the salary cap. However, another part of the judge's revision could affect the Warriors' chances at landing Harrington. The judge ruled the Hawks could not add a player with a contract of more than four years unless both sides of the feuding Atlanta ownership sign off. Warriors forward Troy Murphy, who would figure to be part of any deal for Harrington, has five years remaining on his contract.

Pharaoh 07-12-2006, 11:51 AM So Belkin, the "saviour" (according to some Hawk fans) obviously doesn't like Murphy, otherwise they wouldn't have the 4-year contract stipulation.
At least now they can sign and trade Harrington for something decent.
Maybe he's part of the 6-team, 16-player Blockbuster?
