any hints on where the best seat/price ratio deals are?

i've been there once and sat in the Pepsi bleacher seats and those were cool.

is the best way to get tickets via the box office (i assume ticketmaster charges you a fee)?

Yeah, ticketmaster charges, the box office would be smartest.

Buy tickets from the toothless bum. No fees that way.

I've sat in the Upper Deck Infield seats a number of times and enjoyed it. They are $20 and often on sale for $10. I like 333 or 233 myself. My boss gave me her season seats once, about 6 rows back from the field along the 3rd base line (like the inner outfield). I actually didn't like it all that much as the 3rd base ump and 3rd base coach were always in the way of my view of the batter and while I liked being able to jaw at Rondell (last season) the closer view of the game didn't really do anything for me (though that might be just me). No clue what those tickets cost.

I also prefer upper deck, with the section behind home plate being my favorite.

I think $35 a seat

The nice thing about upper deck is you get a full view of the field. I sat in RF a few years back and unless you were in the first row or two, you couldn't see anything going on at or near the warning track of about 1/3 of the outfield. I've been in the upper deck about a dozen times now, different sections every time, and I've never had my view blocked by anything other than a fat idiot. (you know the guy, eats something different every inning and is so massive it takes him about 5 minutes to shimy down the row each time - he apparently has money, because he can afford nachos, hot pretzels, lemon ice, hot dogs, the tall multi-colored frozen alchoholic beverage, a slice of pizza, numerous beers, and peanuts for a total of about $53 - but not so much money that he can indulge himself AND pay for a more expensive ticket. He often has a girlfriend that is about 245 with a black tanktop that covers very little, allowing you to see the faded out tattoo on her left boob. She doesn't eat quite as much, but she drinks more often)

$53? Dude, I dropped over $100 on booze alone one time at the Palace, and Bobby Higginson bought 2 of my rounds. I am the aforementioned "fat guy" and I take offense at the suggestion I can keep this physique on a lowly Ulysses S. Grant.

I like the AAA deal you get ($25 tickets for $20 or $20 for $10). They are decent seats behind the plate (up higher of course). I also don't mind the LF bleachers either. You can't see pitches very well, but you still have a nice view of the rest of the game. The problem with the Tigers box office is that you have to go there. You can't go to an intermediary (like the wings have at Hockeytown Authentics) to get them. It's either ticketmaster and a bunch of fees or show up in person (bad option for people who don't live/work close).

can you order them via phone, by calling the Comerica Park box office?

No, the recording directs you to ticketmaster.

The area where the statues are, or straight away center. Or peek down the stairs.

Some decent deals on E-bay right now.

Last time I went, I also saw some people standing right above the last rows in the lower bowl. But the OF is usually where they go.
