Bobby Jackson Hearing The Buzz
Posted: 7/2/2006 4:04:49 PM
One season with the Grizzlies was enough for disgruntled guard Bobby Jackson. Sunday, Jackson, who last month said he would not return to the Grizzlies, reached a an agreement to play next season with the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.
As a guest on a Sacramento radio station last month, Jackson stated he and Grizzlies' coach Mike Fratello did not see eye to eye with how Fratello was using him.
Jackson, who is a free agent, can not sign with the Hornets until July 22nd, per NBA free agency rules.
Jackson averaged 11.4 points and 2.7 assists per game last season in Memphis.

Damn it beat me to it.
Claxton will no longer be signed by the Hornets now.

He won't be signed by us either....we're going after BOnzi and he'll get more minutes elsewhere.

So whos our backup point now?
Blalock?Acker?
We could go after Atkins for the LLE but I guess we leave the 2 young pgs in the NBDL.
Is Delk a FA?

i would've loved to get him 3 years ago. he still could be a good pickup for them. but he's had too many nagging injuries the last few years to make him a viable option.
but boy do i wish we had him a couple years ago. he was one of my favorite players.
I wonder if the Hornets have any interest in Cato or DD? I mean they have already spent their cap space and wanted to add a Veteran big, so short of trading PJ for a big the next best option is a S&T for Claxton. We could re-sign Cato for 3.5 to 5 per same as what Claxton would get, Hornets get a veteran big and we get Claxton and keep the MLE.

He can't score anymore like he used to. His speed is almost totally gone.

I agree, I wouldn't have gave him more than the minimum.

But he could still be relied on to come backup a started and play 12-15 minutes a game. He'd be like a better version of Tony Delk

well, it looks like bonzi will take the mle or, much more likely, resign with sac for more than the mle.
and if we can sign ben for 13 starting out, that would leave us with far less than the mle to use (unless we go over the tax). and thats assuming bonzi chose us, when perhaps miami would be alot more attractive to him.

Jackson or Speedy?
I think Speedy would be perfect here. He already has a ring (proven) and he is used to coming off the bench. Perfect spark-plug for the bench. Bonzi, IMO, is a pipe dream. And even if we do get him, we still don't have a backup Point Guard (the biggest need). We have 1 MLE to get 1 player. Getting a PG who can score is the best situation. Sign a swingman next year or pull a mid-season trade if it needs to happen. We've got a few assets (Dale's expiring contract, the "projects", picks, etc).

What was BJax's beef with Fratello? If it was playing time, he sure as heck isn't going to get too much behind Chris Paul.
