View Full Version : Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Moodini31 07-02-2006, 12:22 AM OK, I don't know where the other thread went, but I'm still playing this game, and I'm sure a few other people who visit this forum are too, so I'm starting this thread back up.
Right now, I'm level 20 overall, and I just hit level 25 in Mysticism, so I'm able to cast Soul Trap, but I don't have the soul gems that I need to capture the souls to enchant and recharge. Does anyone know some good locations to get soul gems, preferably the big ones?
Comrade 07-02-2006, 05:03 AM Best soul gem in the game is Azura's Star. You need to find her shrine, which is NE of Cheydinhal. Be sure to bring some Glow Dust. It's rare, so if you need any help finding it PM me or post it here. Once there, you'll have to summon her. I believe you have to offer the dust at dawn of dusk, but I can't remember for sure. Some guy there, a Dark Elf I believe, will give you the specifics. Then she'll give you a quest to kill 5 of her followers who were infected with porphyric hemophilia aka vampires so you'll want to bring some cure disease potions if you don't want it. Anyways, you clear them out and when you get back to her she hooks you up with Azura's Star, a grand soul gem that is reusuable. Hope that helps.
Moodini31 07-02-2006, 11:56 PM How did I know that my boy Comrade would be the one to hook me up with some info? But I am going to have to ask you where to get the Glow Dust. Thanks man.
Comrade 07-03-2006, 01:44 AM How did I know that my boy Comrade would be the one to hook me up with some info? But I am going to have to ask you where to get the Glow Dust. Thanks man. Alright, here are a few ways to get it. First, you can get it off Wisps. You can guarantee running into them in both the Main Quest and the Fighter's Guild quests. If you've already did those and sold or left the dust, then you can try buying it off Alchemists. It's really rare though. But, I just spent the last hour or so trying to find a place I can guarantee it will be and I did. Goto the Bruma Mages Guild and it will be on a table in the NW room of the basement. Polish,
The best weapons I have found are the Daedric weapons you get from completing the Daedric quests. Check out the shrines and make the appropriate offering to do the quest. The best weapon I've found so far is Goldbrand (it's a samurai sword that deals 19 damage +22 in fire damage when charged), which I got from completing Boethia's quest, but have have to be level 20 to be able to do it. You have to fight 10 warriors in Oblivion and if you have tons of room in your inventory you can get some other cool weapons and Daedric armor. Another one that gives you a good weapon is Sanguine's quest. You get the Sanguine Rose which is a staff that lets you summon this huge icy dude when charged. Super tight!
Check it out kiiiiiiiid!

Comrade,
Thanks for the info on getting Azura's star. I just got it and I would have had no clue what to do without your post. Do you have any tips on capturing souls? I'll have a Grand Soul Gem, I'll capture a soul in it and it will say "lesser". Then I try to capture something else in there, and it says I don't have a big enough Soul gem to capture the soul. Then I'll try to go and recharge a weapon, and I'll only be able to use like 300 points. That's just not getting it done. Any advice?

You need to find something badass enough to fill it. Liches, Minotaur Lords, Gloom Wraiths, and the Daedra that starts with an X (Xivali or something) all can. 2 out of those 4 are Undead, so an Undead dungeon would be your best bet. If you're level 20+, you should be seeing these guys often. If you need help finding any Undead dungeons just post it here.
-NoQuarter- 07-06-2006, 04:09 PM Anyone know if they released any new mods to put the AI back to where the developers wanted it to be? The AI in this game is sooooo underwhelming compared to what it was initially supposed to be. Apparently they dumbed it WAY down because the worl became too chaotic and NPC were running amok (sounds baddass to me). I've heard they're working on some mods to restore it to it's intelligent state.

JickBoy34 07-25-2006, 04:31 PM Frickin game is WAY to good...
DrRay11 07-25-2006, 04:34 PM ^^No doubt. I'm still playing.
Moodini31 07-25-2006, 04:51 PM Frickin game is WAY to good...
Polish, wha happened? I remember a post from you when Oblivion came out and I believe you gave it a 4 out of 5, and said it was nothing special. Now, every time I get on my 360 I see T34Bone playing Oblivion. Did you see the light?
And.....you are absolutey right, one of the best games I've ever played. I'm approaching 120 hours and I still have a good chunk of the main quest to go. WOW.
Moodini31 07-31-2006, 01:45 AM Hey, does anyone (Comrade) know where I can get some journeyman restoration spells? I'm looking for Heal Greater Wounds in particular. Any ideas?
One more thing too. I think I might have a glitch in my game. Right now, I'm trying to finish up the Thieves Guild questline and in my current quest I'm supposed to steal a ring from the Countess of Leyawiin. I talked to her handmaiden and she said she is in the chapel in the morning, hosts dinner at 8, and goes to bed at about 11. But for some reason, she won't leave the dinner table, she just keeps chowing down. No matter what time it is, she's at the table eating. She's going to turn into Shamu pretty quick. Did anyone else have this problem? What should I do?
JickBoy34 07-31-2006, 03:57 PM Try looking in chapel's Mood...I think I got a good one there.
DrRay11 08-02-2006, 10:45 PM Is there a way I can come close to becoming completely invisible?
DrRay11 08-03-2006, 02:23 PM Also, do items such as the pickaxe and the shovel serve any purpose in the game? At all?
Moodini31 08-04-2006, 09:05 PM Is there a way I can come close to becoming completely invisible?
Also, do items such as the pickaxe and the shovel serve any purpose in the game? At all?
Yes you can e. I have a robe that gives me chameleon 10%, I have the Ring of Shadows that gives you chameleon 30%. Then I drank 3 potions that were 15% each, another that was 25%. That put me at 110% and I was able to sneak right by a guard in the Skingrad castle for a quest for Thieves Guild. If you are 100%, they can't see you. You are also able to get chameleon scrolls to use and it's also an Illusion spell.
The pickaxe and shovel are completely useless, so don't bother picking them up. They're just for decoration. You could pick them up if you want to put them in your house if you're into that kind of thing. Not my cup of tea.
DrRay11 08-05-2006, 10:11 AM Thanks Mood. I was wondering if you could somehow dig with the shovel or mine caves/Ayleid ruins with the pickaxe. Didn't seem possible, but I was just double checking.
Moodini31 08-06-2006, 01:27 AM Thanks Mood. I was wondering if you could somehow dig with the shovel or mine caves/Ayleid ruins with the pickaxe. Didn't seem possible, but I was just double checking.
No prob man. Yeah, I thought the same thing too at first, it would have been a nice touch if that was in there, but I'm completely satisfied and then some with the depth of this game. I guess they just let you pick that kind of stuff up so it's as real as possible. In real life if a shovel is laying on the ground you can pick it up, so I'm guessing they were going for some realism. On the other hand, is it realistic to go through a transparent Oblivion gate, be magically transported to another realm and fight against demonic dudes who shoot lightning at you? Whatever. I feeeel it!
Moodini31 08-10-2006, 04:48 AM I just beat the game. The last quest was absolutely unbelievable! WOW, I can't say enough about this game. It was just named "Game of the Year" by G4 at their Gphoria awards show and I couldn't agree more. It's the definition of a CLASSIC.
Total time to complete the entire game-133 hours, 4 minutes, 14 seconds.
Black Dynamite 11-09-2007, 08:19 PM Ok it was a slow mess for me. I found mild humor in picking soldiers pockets and have them chase me to death. I stuck with it hoping to find this reward you speak of in playing it. It came as I decided to enter the portal of Oblivion. Its now pretty interesting. Though that asshole who went into the tower with me got his ballsy ass killed charging into battles when I was sneaking up on people ever so smoothly.
One thing I give it credit for. The bodies hardly ever disappear. I've literally got 2 hours deep into the game and found bodies of people I merc'd the a couple days ago.
Big Swami 11-10-2007, 01:08 AM I've played Oblivion, and a very interesting part of the game is keeping NPCs alive so they can come back to help out later. That guy who you meet inside the first Oblivion gate - you can send him back, and he's there to help you avoid getting blew out on the next mission (clearing out the city of Kvatch), which is ironically way harder than clearing out the Oblivion gate.
If you've played the last mission, you also know that many of the Blades, soldiers and town guards you help out earlier in the game come together to help you finish off Mehrunes Dagon if you've managed to keep them from getting killed.
Black Dynamite 11-10-2007, 01:34 AM Sounds like I'm fucked. LOL
I'll just have to develop as strategy for that next mission w/o his punk ass. Its his fault though. kept charging through through shit. on the second floor he charged through the door and got some hard iron to the forehead.
Big Swami 11-10-2007, 03:01 PM dat fool wuz like "LEEEEROY JENKINS" an shit
Black Dynamite 11-11-2007, 07:18 PM I looked that up. damn that was nerdy. It was funnier reading about its origin rather than watching that lame looking game. Had to skip to the last 30 seconds.
But yea he was something like that. Luckily i lived. As his stupidity opened a free shot at the monster. I just found the second oblivion portal. might have been a bad idea to enter. oooppss.
Big Swami 11-12-2007, 09:56 AM I watched that "Leroy Jenkins" video about a thousand times when it was first sent to me in 2005.
The thing that's so funny about it is that this horrible, horrible nerds are sitting around doing what they always do, which is overthinking everything and trying to sound smart ("chance of survival is about 23.333 percent...repeating, of course...") I was tearing my hair out going "WHY DOESN'T SOMEONE SMASH THESE FUCKING DORKS' FACES IN????" And then just when I was sure I'd be subjected to someone reciting Rush lyrics or a fucking Monty Python sing-along, drunk-ass Leroy Jenkins comes in to save my sanity by rushing into battle and getting everyone killed. "Alright chumps, times up! LEEEEROY a-JENKINNNNNNS!"
World of Warcraft is a nerd game for nerds and I like it when people die and lose all their gear.
Wilfredo Ledezma 01-08-2008, 12:14 PM I just bought this game on Amazon yesterday. I usually only play sports games (Madden, NBA 2k series), but I was referred to this game by a friend.
A) Will I enjoy it??
and
B) Is it easy to understand?
DrRay11 01-08-2008, 12:16 PM As long as you don't throw it out after the first hour due to possible beginning confusion, both answers should be yes.

Its one of those games that only gets fun after you get into some real missions. It was pussy garbage until i forced myself to play it longer than I ever did before I bought it. Its actually decent now.
Oh anybody know a good strategy on beating 3 people at once in the arena?
Zekyl 01-14-2008, 01:08 PM I never got far in it. I didn't have the time to give to it when I first got it, and its hard to just sit down and play for 10 minutes then save and start up again a few days later. I let my friend's little brother borrow it, so when I get it back I'll give it another try.
Wilfredo Ledezma 01-26-2008, 04:29 PM Ok, I haven't had the game long, but I just got done closing the first oblivion gate at Kvatch...which was pretty easy...
just a couple quick questions...A) I was in the Imperial City earlier along the water by the Pirates ships, and inside was a treasure chest that was locked (I used all of my lock-picks but ran out), Will I eventually have to gain access to that chest?
Also whats considered the better bow? The steel one or the iron one?
and I chose Knight, and born under the Shadow Sign...were those good choices...?
thanks
Wilfredo Ledezma 01-27-2008, 08:44 AM also is their a way I can use my weapon while on the horse???
Mr. Oobir 01-27-2008, 07:54 PM also is their a way I can use my weapon while on the horse???
Not by default, but there are some mods out there that let you do it. Here's one: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8273
Wilfredo Ledezma 01-27-2008, 08:10 PM thanks oobir, I have another question, i've basically been playing this game all weekend, and I'm still on Level 1, is it bad to take a really longg time to finish tasks, like I guess I'm asking if their are time limits before the cities like Bruma get overtaken??? Or can I take as long as I want???
B/C I didn't finish my quests at Kvatch, and I left but haven't been back since...
Wilfredo Ledezma 01-27-2008, 08:12 PM and god I need to find lockpicks, do they sell them at stores anywhere???
how the hell can i find merchants???

Join the Thieves guild and they'll direct you to a guy in bruma named Ongar. Dont know if he'll sell them to you regardless of your guild status, but you can check i guess.

Thanks, actually just after I posted this I was able to find the Thieves Guild, however I'm in the process of stealing that persons sword in order to join...
I swear I have about five thousand questions to ask about this game, but can't find anybody who can help...do they make a damn booklet or something???
and I don't really want to cheat by using the downloads or patches, I'd like to at least try on my own, hell I'm still on level 1

Join a gaming forum, or just google specific key words from where you are stuck to catch a topic on it. Also i had to steal a book before two other people got to it to get in. The chick beat me to it, thus i stole from her before the midnight meet up, got me in no problems. I am a pickpocket fiend on that game. I've "tried" to pickpocket damn near everybody.
Wilfredo Ledezma 01-28-2008, 11:00 PM When you pick pocket people, and they don't catch you, will you still be arrested when you talk to a guard??? I've already been to jail once for stealing a loaf of bread at Bruma...
Wilfredo Ledezma 01-28-2008, 11:03 PM ALSO, I get the imperssion that Brother Martin (who is I guess the acting emporer) is a bad guy, either him or Jauffre, am I on to something?

Depends on your skill level, the higher your skill level, the less your attention. With that said, just make sure you're not seen, and fuck talking to guards, nobody likes a snitch. :P [smilie=heatsmiley2:
As far as the storyline goes, i recommend you get as much linear storyline done, i made the mistake of beefing my levels up before finishing the kvatch mission, lets just say its a pain in the ass now.

Wow, I didn't finish the Kvatch mission either, once I got Brother Martin I left and since haven't gone back. Thanks for telling me.

the game changes the enemies to match your level, so i'm fighting some bad muthafuggas in kvatch now since i'm at level 24.

Damn, I had no idea, thanks for that tip, I'm still on Level 1, so I'll definetly go back to Kvatch next time I play...
Also, really quick, I'm not sure if you recall in Bruma there is a quest where you have to do something involving some person who was killed b/c he was said to be a vampire...when I go into his house, the guards won't tell me any info about the vampire killer, whats the best way to persuade?

gotta persuade one of the guards enough to let you talk to his wife i think, then theres some snooping around involved at where he stays(once you find out where). take my memory with a grain of salt, unfortunately i took a break from finishing that mission because i became a vampire and didnt fix it in time, so now i gotta cure myself the epic long way, i cant complain because it gives me a reason to visit areas i never thought to explore, but the road to a cure can be a bitch. And i'd stay a vampire if it didnt carry the side effect of sunlight eating energy and weakness to fire(of which the latter will give you issues you in an oblivion gate).
Theres some Oblivion vets in here, they should giving you more info than me.
Wilfredo Ledezma 01-29-2008, 10:25 PM thanks Codename, I swear this game is just loaded w/ so much shit to do, and I've been playing for about 25 hours so far and haven't even scratched the surface of it yet...
If I see an Oblivion Gate on Fire, is it ok to pass it up?
Black Dynamite 01-29-2008, 10:28 PM If I see an Oblivion Gate on Fire, is it ok to pass it up?
Do as you please, its not going anywhere just remember two things
1.) more will pop everywhere that you'll have to close. You'll stumble on to some of them, typically you're near one when the sky goes red.
2.) Dont get too strong level wise because it responds accordingly to your level.
Also yea its an epic game, a lil too time consuming, but a solid game overall. I wonder how their new game fallout will play out in depth.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-03-2008, 12:22 PM Hey Codename V, one more quick question, I finally got to Level 3 and I'm working on getting some thing for Martin in these caverns (Tiberius Septim or something), there are these "wraiths" or "ghosts" in their but when I swing my sword at them, it has no effect, what am I supposed to do to kill these things??? I have a staff that shoots sickness, as well, do I have to shoot a spell on them or something???
Also, is it easy to find the 10 bits of "nirnroot"???
Thanks.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-03-2008, 12:22 PM and what the f is a summons?
JickBoy34 02-03-2008, 01:23 PM i believe weapons made of silver hurt ghosts...maybe im wrong. plenty of guides telling exactly where all the niirnroot is at, tough finding it by chance.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-05-2008, 04:36 PM i believe weapons made of silver hurt ghosts...maybe im wrong. plenty of guides telling exactly where all the niirnroot is at, tough finding it by chance.
I found one so far, in the loading screens it says that when you take plants, they will grow back in a couple days, I have a feeling that's not the case with the nirnroot.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-13-2008, 04:50 PM I FINALLY GOT INTO THE FUCKING MAGES GUILD!!!
THANK TALOS!!
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-16-2008, 11:34 PM When I enchant my sword with a spell that "Fortifies Magicka" does that mean when I strike an enemy, I will absorb his Magicka and my Magicka will climb???
For some reason, I have high levels of strength and fatigue, but my Magicka (the green bar) is low...
how the hell do I "raise" it...? Codename, help me out?
Black Dynamite 02-17-2008, 08:04 AM Fatigue is the green bar on my game. Magika the blue bar. The only way i know to raise magika is talk to people who train on specific ones(usually found in mage guilds) and using it often. The more you use it, the better.
Black Dynamite 02-17-2008, 07:01 PM this might help.
