Strengths: Blalock is a deceptively strong, athletic point guard with a massive wingspan for someone his size. He’s a true point guard with strong ball-handling and passing skills. Blalock has a quick first step and does well in the lane, especially excelling on the drive-and-dish, where he uses his good court vision and passing to exploit defensive seams. He can take the ball to the basket or pull-up in the lane. Blalock runs the break just as well as he does a halfcourt set, making good decisions and getting the ball to the open man. Blalock is a scrappy defender who uses his length and good hands to harass his opponent.
Weaknesses: Blalock’s biggest weakness is his outside jumper. He is an adequate shooter from behind the arc, but lacks consistency and has not shown NBA range. Blalock struggled from the free-throw line in his junior year, shooting only 66 percent. Defensively, his team exclusively played zone defense, so it’s tough to assess how he’d adjust to playing man-to-man. He’s slightly undersized, though has the length to partially make up for it.
Outlook: Blalock, a junior, was a three-year starter at point guard for Iowa State, and improved each year. He could be drafted towards the end of the second round, and has a good enough combination of skill and physical attributes to be a good backup point guard in the NBA.

Anthony 06-29-2006, 12:56 AM Hello Blalock.

Full Name: Samb Chiekh Tidiane
Position: Center Height/Weight: 7-1 (2.15 m) / 195 (88.5 kg)
Birthdate: October 22, 1984 (Senegal)
High School:
Team: WTC Cornella (Spain) Country: Senegal
Originally an early entry candidate for the 2005 NBA Draft before withdrawing his name from consideration.
Career Highlights: Played his first year at the professional level with WTC Cornella in the Spanish LEB2 league. Also appeared with Winterthur F.C. Barcelona with their U-20 team in the Circuito Sub-20, a four-phase competition organized by the Spanish basketball leagues separate from their regular seasons. Had previously signed a multi-year contract in the summer of 2004 with Unelco Tenerife in the Spanish ACB, the country’s top professional league, but did not appear in any games with the senior team. Attended Arona Basket Sur Academy in Spain’s Canary Islands in 2003-04.
2005-06: Averaged 9.6 points and team highs of 7.7 rebounds and 3.1 blocked shots for WTC Cornella in the Spanish LEB2 regular season. Led the league in blocked shots, registering more blocks than the totals of every other team in the league except for one. Averaged 9.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.5 blocked shots in four playoff contests. With Winterthur F.C. Barcelona in the Circuito Sub-20, averaged 9.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.1 blocked shots in 11 total contests.
2004-05: Played for Tenerife’s affiliated club which was not at the pro team level. Practiced with the senior team.
Strengths: Raw, lean shot-blocker who has tremendous upside as a prospect.

ANALYSIS: Few players who will be picked in the 2006 NBA Draft have less experience than Samb, but that doesn't mean he isn't an exciting prospect. On the contrary, Samb has exhibited shotblocking abilities that would put him among the best rejecters in Europe, if only he had enough experience to play at a higher level. Samb played his first professional season this year in LEB2, which is the third-highest professional league in Spain. He signed a contract with Unelco Tenerife, a club in the ACB, Spain's highest level, but he has competed at lower levels in order to gain experience. In his first season, Samb blocked more shots himself than all but one of the teams in LEB2. He also averaged 9.6 points and 7.7 rebounds, pretty good numbers considering his utter lack of experience. With a normal progression, Samb might be ready to play at Spain's highest level, the ACB, in two more years. In the past, clever NBA teams have selected prospects like Samb and let them develop in Europe for a few years before signing them to play in the NBA. Denver drafted Francisco Elson in 1999, then let him develop for four years in Spain until they felt he was ready for the NBA. Elson has had three productive seasons as a frontcourt reserve for the Nuggets. Perhaps some team will show the same foresight and draft Samb.

Laxation 06-29-2006, 01:03 AM He has massive lips...
Hopefully he can turn into something like Diop and be a decent contributor... He doesnt really have to do anything though, he helped us get rid of Evans. He should be starting.
Anthony 06-29-2006, 01:12 AM The new shaq stopper.

Looking around on the net I've see 195, 215, 220, and 240 for his weight. Clearly no one has a clue.

Can you imagine Amir and this dude with some added weight/strength playing PF and C in 3-4 years?
Taymelo 06-29-2006, 11:19 AM Can you imagine Amir and this dude with some added weight/strength playing PF and C in 3-4 years?
Imagine away.
That's the only way you'll see that picture in the NBA.
I would like to be the first to wish our draft picks well on the Haopel Jerusalem team.

Tell them to say hi to Ricky Paulding for me.
PS: Don't believe the hype. They talked a lot of nice shit about Paulding too, right before they shipped him overseas, never to be seen again.
i honestly think that any compliments towards Samb is just out of respect to Mo Evans. i mean, it'd suck to hear, "yeah we were willing to give away Mo evans for a bag of peanuts." at least pretend you value Samb, to give Mo some value.
Taymelo 06-29-2006, 11:41 AM Can you imagine Amir and this dude with some added weight/strength playing PF and C in 3-4 years?
This is the best I could do under short notice.

Amir is Cedric Cebalos.
That Samb guy is a poor man's Mikki Moore (less basketball talent, a lot less basketball experience, and even less weight!!!!)
Pharaoh 06-29-2006, 12:11 PM Way to rain on the parade Tay.
Taymelo 06-29-2006, 12:15 PM Sorry.
I just love reading those multiple posts that start popping up each time a summer leaguer hits a free throw, about how the future starting five of the Pistons will be:
1. Alex Acker;
2. Ricky Paulding;
3. Amir Johnson;
4. Mad Max; and
5. The Big Senegalese Toothpick
Most of these guys won't even eke out a career in the NBA, let alone be starters.
My money is on Amir making a nice career, and Mad Max sticking around as a 10 year backup in this league, with the rest of them playing in Europe or washing cars at Jax.
Obviously, I hope I'm wrong.
Pharaoh 06-29-2006, 12:24 PM I know what you're saying, and I agree.
I'm just extremely happy to see Mo gone and you're kind of ruining the moment.
Mo Evans is Gone!

Yes, we all know that he has a 0% chance of making the roster for at least 2 years, and it would take a miracle for him to make the roster ever. This is not breaking news.
Higherwarrior 06-29-2006, 05:02 PM blaylock is different from paulding though. paulding had and has talent but not a true position. he didn't have the size to be a 2 guard nor the ball handling/vision to be a PG. so that is why he's where he is.
blaylock on the other hand HAS an excellent handle and excellent vision. he sees the game well and understands how to make the game easier for others. he also has incredible athleticism and good strength, as well as long arms and defensive tenacity. he is a true PG and certainly no tweener.
he is very good off the dribble and in the open court pushing the ball up. he can create shots for others- a major need for us.
so his only REAL weakness is that he doesn't have a consistent jump shot. he has decent form though so i personally believe a lot of work will improve him in that area, to the point where he can be a legitimate prospect for us.
hell if rip hamilton can develop his outside jumper, this kid can.
i don't think this is just talk at all, at least regarding WB. he can and WILL be a contributor for this team in the future IMHO. not saying he'll be a HOF player in the nba, but IMO he will be a PLAYER.

Uncle Mxy 06-30-2006, 09:14 AM Someone should tell JD that's not how the six degrees of Kevin Bacon game works.
Joe D said the guy is between 220 and 235 not 195.
Someone should tell JD that's not how the six degrees of Kevin Bacon game works.
They should make a Hanes commercial with Dumars blocking all MJ's shot attempts.
Glenn 06-30-2006, 02:31 PM If my eyes don't deceive me, Blaylock (at 5'11") was the shortest player taken in the draft.
Just a little factoid for you.

Dee Brown is under 6'.
Higherwarrior 06-30-2006, 06:28 PM yeah dee brown is generously listed at 5-10 i believe...
RegicideGreg 06-30-2006, 08:59 PM and a certain Keydren Clark was about 5'9" or 5'10".
Glenn 06-30-2006, 09:34 PM Oh well, I just browsed the Yahoo draft recap and I must have missed those.
Not a good day for ol' Glenn on the boards.
and a certain Keydren Clark was about 5'9" or 5'10".
But he wasn't drafted (unless I'm horribly blind). He just went to the combine.

He wasn't drafted but Glenn said in the draft and to me that means anyone available to be drafted.

no biggie
OUGrizz11PG 07-02-2006, 09:38 PM Pharoah, don't get too excited.
Mo Evans was no Michael Curry.
Black Dynamite 07-03-2006, 02:39 AM Pharoah, don't get too excited.
Mo Evans was no Michael Curry.
thats not fair grizz...I mean who IS Micheal Curry? His legacy on his second tour of duty here will never be equaled. I'm thankful. But that doesnt make Mo Evans a horrific loss or a loss at all IMO. We are replacing him afterall with a slasher/scorer type.. if that doesnt happen i'm still happy he's gone, but i can feel the people who arent and understand where they are coming from..
