Make sure you clean out the chat tables at least every 48 hours. You'll lose the logs, but they can bloat really fast with an active chat. Matt 07-01-2006, 11:33 AM Site's fast Matt. We're kind of getting sick of the lack of reliability of the current web host, so we are exploring switching hosting services. Hang in there with us. Anthony 07-03-2006, 08:04 PM Ha, I was coming here to make sure I wasnt the only one, but it was too slow to get here LMAO. Darth Thanatos 07-06-2006, 06:49 PM I've never had too many problems with this site in terms of speed. Then again, I'm a dial-up user. We're kind of getting sick of the lack of reliability of the current web host, so we are exploring switching hosting services. Hang in there with us. FWIW, I haven't encountered problems with other Dreamhost sites as far as reliability. I know someone who uses them for hosting routinely and their stuff seems to "just work". I'm not sure if it's a difference in platform technology, network toplogy, or maybe we're just more demanding users. UberAlles 07-16-2006, 12:15 PM Dreamhost is a shared host. While any dynamically driven site is demanding when under heavy load, sharing a server means that someone else can be getting nailed hard and sucking up resources that affect performance here. Shared hosts make their money promising the world and hoping their clients use less than the available resources, thereby "over selling" the box. 2 years ago, I was running a site on a box with 40 clients (per the sales pitch) and later found out when it was down that there were over 200 clients on the same box. The cost and headaches to get your own server solve most of these problems, but create new ones like anxiety over security, maintenance and uptime. I'm sure Matt will scale WTF as need demands. Things here are pretty good. |
