Why does it seem like every MLB player wears a gold chain around their neck?

I don't have a problem if a guy wants to wear a gold chain (I don't like them for myself), it just seems like it's almost a given and I'm wondering why that is the case.

Some might guess that it is a cultural/ethnic thing, but race doesn't seem to be a factor at all, they all wear them.

I know this isn't the deepest topic ever created, but I feel better that I've said something about it now at least.

Sheff's always rocked the gold chain. I remember when I was a kid, they always tried to make this an error card, because some of the cards, you couldn't see as many links. That's all I have to add.

I am not sure about gold chains but I do know that a lot of players wear titanium coated necklaces in belief that it will help improve circulation and reduce muscle stress.

I just like the fact that Sheffield was gettin Crunk old school. He's looking like Leroy Wells in a Brewers uni.

As far as the chains, not sure. I have friends that feel them, but I haven't sported one since high school. (yeah, I was a wannabe vanilla thug back in the day) I just don't understand how they can play all-out without those things annoying them.
