You know what, it took me a little while to get used to them, but I can't really say a bad word about the pair. When I moved to Chicago, George Kell and Al Kaline were still on the job, and I never thought I'd be able to listen to anyone else, but I've warmed to the new guys. There's at least a couple times a game where they'll say exactly what I'm thinking.

I miss Josh and Gibby.

They are fine as far as following the game and bringing up some nuances that the casual fan might not notice, but there is pretty much nothing there as far as entertainment value, IMO. Just too vanilla.

I would say that I mildly "apperiate" them.

They may be bland, but trust me, as someone who watches most of his baseball through out of town announcers. you can do a lot, lot worse. Yes, the Dodgers and the Yankees have great announcers, but have you ever heard Hawk Harrelson (maybe on WGN for the Sox)? How'd you like to have to listen to that fucking guy every day? Drives me crazy. Alot of the other announcing teams I hear around the league are just plain annoying as well.

Impemba and Allen may not be especially "good", but I don't think they're especially "bad" either, and that's more of a luxury than you may realize.

Rod Allen's not even in the same universe as suckitude that Raferty's in. In fact, Allen's downright decent, other than the fact he throws a lot of "uhh's" in his commentary while looking for the right word. Other than that, he's fine.

I like Impemba and Allen, especially Allen. I like his voice, his excitement and he's a great analyst. Impemba is OK. He's an enigma to me though. He looks like a straight up balding white dude, yet his name is Mario Impemba? What's going on there?

Greatest Tigers announcing team ever, though, has to be Kell/Kaline. Kell's southern drawl and easy-going manner worked perfectly for a play-by-play man, and Kaline's knowledge of the game was second to none. How sad is it that I fondly remember Al Kaline solely for his commentating skills?

And i'm not trying to say that they're the best of all time. Or better than any other pair. I'm just saying that I love when they do the games. I find my self entertained.

One thing I found out about detroit, is that we have the best local play by play guys on earth. Blaha, Mark Champion, Greg Kelser, Fred McLeod, Ken Daniels, Jim Price & Dan Dickerson, and many others.

Have any of you ever heard any of the other guys from other cities? I'm sure a TK fart would sound better than these guys.

I think that they're growing on everyone this year because the Tigers are actually good. Listening to some of the shit that comes out of Rod's mouth can be downright hilarious at times. Sometimes I wonder about his baseball knowledge, or maybe he just forgets where he is from time to time.

I wonder how everyone would feel about them if the Tigers were still a below .500 team...
