Used to go every year, but I'm going this weekend for the first time in about 8 years or so.

I've sort of lost touch with the latest rides, the new one the last time I went was The Magnum.

That drag racing one just looks downright nasty (see the pic in the random pic thread that just got posted).

I remember not being fond of being there on the weekend because the lines were so long, I also heard that they discontinued the "express lane" thing that that they used to have.

What are the newest developments at the park? Has anyone else been there recently?

I always look forward to a cold beer at the Red Garter Saloon, hopefully that is still there.

Make sure to ride both the Dragster and Milennium Force, both are fucking great. I was there earlier this year, and if it weren't for the storms, the day would've been damn skippy. Less than 1 hour wait for Dragster, about 25 minutes for the Force. Was fun. You won't have near the luck, however, since you're going on the weekend.

Definatly go on those two rides, even if you have a 3 hour wait. They are both worth it. Tried the Skyhawk (went a few weeks ago) that was pretty awesome. But the Millenium Force is definatly my favorite. Except it was down for a couple hours as I was about 20 feet from getting on the second time.

yeah, the force is the shit. Totally different than any other, more like skydiving than a coaster.

I've never been to Cedar Point in my life. Hopefully that'll change this Summer.

8 years ago, then you've probably never ridden the Raptor. It's not "new" anymore but its one of the best rides there.

I'm pretty sure I'm in the same boat as you. The last time I went was about 8 years ago, after going every single year.

The latest ride I remember is the power tower.

The last time I went to Cedar Point, the gemini was new. I guess I'm about due for another visit.

Hell yes, man. The new rides kick some serious ass.

the rides are great, no question but last time I was there we had to wait twenty minutes for a pretzel. You couldn't move the place was so crowded and we got on about 3 rides.

No crowd- best place on earth
crowd- hell

I got stuck on the Demon Drop (at the top, looking down) for over a half hour owing to technical difficulties. On that same trip, I was the odd man out on another ride (I forget the name) sitting next to some Middle Eastern dude who was screaming like a baby in his own language when the ride began. It added up to a creepy end-of-the-world vibe and I haven't ever gone back. I'm not a huge roller coaster fan, though... would only ever go to be with friends or family. The stuff that I do like -- water rides, bumper cars -- I find better elsewhere.

i am interested as to how they eventually let you down from the demon drop. Did it all of a sudden drop or did they tell you that the ride was about to resume? The thing that gets me the most about that ride is how they let you sit up top for a couple seconds before they drop you.

That's exactly where we were stuck, where they're placing you out on the rails just before you go down. We hung out there for a couple minutes which felt like forever, waiting to get dropped. Finally, this tinny-sounding speaker voice (which was hard to hear because it was behind us) told us they were having issues. They tried to get us back to the platform at the top, but they had more issues. Someone came up with a megaphone after 10-15 minutes which was a bit easier to hear. Then, when we were ready to get dropped, we were dropped after another couple minute wait. I don't know what really went wrong... it was pretty vague, we couldn't really have a dialogue, and I had to take a piss afterwards. This was roughly 15 years ago... for all I know it's changed completely.

Actually, I got that confused with something else (or more rather, Google News did). There was another accident involving a bus and Cedar Point a few days ago that led to roads being closed down for hours:

which I thought was the same as the thing involving the DeVos family and Cedar Point just today. Never mind... my bad. It showed up on the news so I did a quick Google for a link and I got confused. My bad.

I heard it about the power tower. People do die on the rides from time to time. Especially when they first open.

And Glenn, the older you get the more you notice things like there being nothing but cement inside the park (almost no trees or grass), the heat, and the ratio of time in line compared to time on the rides. But really, I haven't ventured to the place on the weekend in a long time. That takes real balls.

I went 6 years ago. Ironically we were going to go today until the weather turned sour.

The Millenium force had just came out, and that ride rocked. I can wait to go again.
