View Full Version : Looking for Work
SlasherX 06-06-2006, 04:25 PM Hey,
Man it's hard finding work these days been trying for two weeks no luck, I was wondering if someone has info on someone hiring or can hook me up I’d appreciate it.
Just had a Contract Job from Compuware that just finished now I’m out of work.
Have applied on Monster and Michworks
Also applied at Best Buy/Circuit City/Microcenter.
If someone needs my resume I’ll send it to them.
Thanks in advance
I’d appreciate it
Darth Thanatos 06-06-2006, 04:29 PM I thought I was the only one here desperately seeking employment.
But yeah, I think this'll get swatted.
Gecko 06-06-2006, 05:15 PM Sorry to hear your employment situation. I respect the hell out of you for for asking for help. Too often people feel embarrassed or feel there is a stigma with being unemployed. This can wreck havoc on one's emotions.
This is a tough state to gain employment in right now but keep on searching, networking and never get discouraged.
I don't like what I see right now headed for our economy and especially our state. By this time next year we will either be battling severe inflation or a recession. The first option is the worst of all outcomes.
Here's something to consider.
The No Shit stuff: Start by contacting head hunters and putting resumes out. Give resumes to family too. Call past co-workers and tell them you're looking. Ask them if they heard anything available. This shit's life or death sometimes you need to do what other people are unwilling to do.
If looking for work in your "current" field isn't producing any leads or interviews consider looking for something outside of your field.
Depending on your financial situation maybe returning back to school and get training in something else.
Use this opportunity to become a business owner! Start a dream you have always wanted to do.
If you get desperate enough....
If you're handy and can build shit, for the short term cash money go swing a hammer. A variant...Go down to the Hurricane areas (FL/NO) and make money working in construction. Plenty of people making dollars round the clock down there.
Look for work in other states. Plenty of states are growing better than this turd dump.
Consider teaching. I hear Florida is in desperate need of teachers and all you need is a BA to teach, no certificate (from what I hear).
I really feel for those that are out of work and have a family or are near retirement.
b-diddy 06-06-2006, 05:21 PM i think you need more than a BA to teach these days (no child left behind). but could be mistaken.
if your hard up for cash, go caddie at a local country club. you can make a hundo or two a day-tax free (depending on where you work)

You can teach in private schools. Or if you have a defined specialty such as a major in chemistry you can teach chemistry but you can't teach outside of your specialty unless you have certification. Elementary ED is handled differently though. You can always throw your name in the hat to be a sub, all you need is a degree, or 90+ credits. If you apply with enough school districts you can get regular work. I know this suggestion sucks at this time of the year but this is the time of the year they consider subs for the following year. It may not help now but could useful in getting extra income come fall.
good luck, SlasherX. i'm on the same looking-for-a-job boat as you.
maybe we can use this thread for job leads from those who are already working.
Black Dynamite 06-06-2006, 06:22 PM man dont be no teacher unless thats what you're into. theres too many shithead teachers out there doing it just to have some work as it is..
Not trying to be funny but EL Paso is a hot bed for jobs. The cost of living is cheap and some college is literally rare and highly desireable.
Black Dynamite 06-06-2006, 06:24 PM Js they gotta fix that water first man. yikes i've seen recently pooped toilet water look cleaner than in some parts.:o All kidding aside he's right. El paso, Arizona, and Las Vegas are booming for work.
Boil water alert is always in effect. For anyone who doesn't know Fort Bliss is located in El Paso, it is the size of Rhode Island and getting bigger. Right now there are 10-15,000 troops stationed there now and over the next 5 years that number will be raised to 50-60 thousand. So there will be a huge population boom and increased jobs as new housing and commerce increases to meet the demands of the area.
H1Man 06-06-2006, 09:59 PM Slasher,
Do you have any CFI experience?
If you do, you will almost assuredly find a job at the WMich College of Aviation.

In general, what sort of stuff can you do? What were you doing at your last job at Compuware? What sort of stuff do you want to be doing? Roughly what kind of money do you need to be where you want / need to be? No, I'm not asking because I know anyone hiring in particular, but maybe we can get away from all the "if you knew XXX" hypotheticals.
