Chauncey Billups' ignoble performance against the Heat only goes to prove Rick Pitino knew what he was doing by trading the rookie Feb. 18, 1998.
OK. I'm not here to defend Chauncey Billups. I'm here to slam Peter Vecsey.
Chauncey Billups is a world champion, as a result of having been MVP of the Finals. He's also an All Star and was an MVP candidate this year.
But Vecsey thinks Pitino was smart for trading him before he did all these things, because AFTER he did those things he would have a bad playoff performance in 2005-2006.
Genius.
Vecsey's next article: Orlando was right to let Shaq go, because although he won three rings in LA, he missed a few free throws before he was traded to Miami.

Of course, if this rumored shit about their being a woman involved in this year's locker room strife is true, an alleged rape was rumored to be why Chauncey was traded in mid-season by Pitino so there may be a kernel of truth (not that I'd expect Vecsey to see or report it).

As for the Billups rape thing back in Boston daze, that involved Antoine Walker and Ron Mercer. Billups and Mercer were traded shortly afterwards and they settled. Fatoine didn't, and this led to minor legal precedent in Massachusetts:
