It's a damn good thing we got that emotional comeback win on Thursday, because now we've got the Red Sox in town and we need to know that we can play with these teams. A sweep could have been devastating to team confidence.

The Red Sox are as tough as always this year, and the heart of their order is just deadly. Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz are both legit superstars and can change the course of the game in half an inning. Mike Lowell and Mark Loretta are both having great years so far in the infield, and Coco Crisp recently returned from the DL to reclaim his centerfield spot. Trot Nixon has been quietly having another great season as well, though he usually sits against Lefties, and Kevin Youkilis has surprised many with a solid year while filling in at several spots around the diamond.

Basically, there are really no easy outs in their lineup, so either our pitching's going to have to be at it's absolute best or we're going to have to get in a serious slugfest and try and outscore them. If we can take 2 out of three, we'll be sitting pretty to finish out this tough stretch of our schedule.

I think we can take 2 from em.

Tonight we get Kenny Rogers vs Curt Schilling.

Though Schilling's been decent this year, and shown flashes of the great Schilling of old, it's clear that he's no longer what he once was. He's been inconsistent, lumping two or three good starts around one real bad one. He's still a pretty good pitcher, though, so we'll need to come out firing to keep him from getting into one of those zones where he just strikes everybody out and laughs about it. If we can knock in a couple runs in through one of the chinks in his armor, he's shown the propensity to blow up and hand out a gopher ball when rattled.

The Tigers send out Kenny Rogers to try and get his season back on track. He's given up 5 earned in each of his last two starts, so it might not be the right time to take on the Red Sox, but he doesn't really have any choice in the matter. They'll probably bench Trot Nixon against him, which tempers the attack some, but this could get ugly if he's not hitting his spots.

I say the Tigers get to Schilling and pull out a close one, 6-5.

We had success against Schilling last year, didnt we? I seem to remember him looking at his clip board very fustrated last year. LOL@Schilling
