View Full Version : Game 5: Pistons vs Heat - it's about pride (Wed 5/31, 8p , ESPN)
every comeback starts with one win, so now's a good a time as any.
i believe..................in a Game 6. one game at a time. don't let those pricks celebrate on our home court.
let's see some more of this:

Joe Asberry 05-30-2006, 08:20 AM i am proud of Dale, he established some toughness with his hard fouls for a short period of time...now the other guys have to follow his lead...shut up play hard and WIN !
Anthony 05-30-2006, 10:55 AM Well, if we're going to do it, we have to win in dramatic fashion at the palace. Billups needs to go off for 40 each night.
Taymelo 05-30-2006, 11:13 AM The officiating will be a lot better at home, but the Pistons can't hit foul shots, anyway.
And even if the Pistons win in Detroit, there's still a little matter of the officiating for game 6, which will be in Miami, which means the Heat will shoot 2 or 3 times as many free throws, and win the series.
Heat in 5 or 6, depending on whether the Pistons show heart tomorrow night.
Either way, I'm on my way to Big Time Worldwide to sell my tickets right after I click "submit reply". There's no way I'd pay $250 plus parking to watch Sheed plan his summer vacation.
FWIW, the Pistons had more free throw attempts than Miami in all three of the previous games.
Yes, the Heat got a shit-load of foul shots, but a lot of those fouls were the results of crappy footwork and laziness. Even some of the most hotly contested calls were proven to be the right calls when looking at the replays. Wade even got fouled on a three-pointer that wasn't called.
I certainly don't think the Pistons got the benefit of the doubt last night, but I don't think they played hard enough to deserve it, either.
I'd like to see the Pistons we saw in the 3rd quarter of Game 4, for all four quarters. That's the Pistons that can beat this Heat team. String together four quarters of that, and we win Game 5.
Tahoe 05-30-2006, 09:15 PM I believe we win game 5. If we don't, JoeD please pursue purchasing some dynamite.
I'm willing to let it play out, but I'm not confident in my team anymore. How can we be down 1-3.
i think we can all agree this might be the most important game in this current roster's recent history.
a loss tonight and the JoeD's got some tough decisions to make. this could be the last we see of this starting lineup as we know it. the starting five that we've grow to love is in jeopardy.
a win tonight gives hope. if the Pistons can pull it together and somehow show glimpses of the team that dominated the regular season, we might forget the turmoil for one more day. one more chance to salvage this team.
alright, some positive vibes........here are the simple things the Pistons can do to take this game:
1. Come out strong - start the game with intensity on both ends of the floor. the series is all but won in the eyes of the Heat. psychologically, they feel they can afford to give up this game and take game 6 at home. perfect chance to come out strong out of the gates.
2. Move the f*@#@ing ball - we FINALLY saw glimpses of it in the 3rd quarter of game 4. high pick and roll w/ chauncey and sheed....the bread and butter of our offense (besides Rip's curl) throughout our entire regular season. this forces Fatoine to step out and can create mismatches. just pass the damn ball around.
3. Defense - let's see some zone and man to man. mix it up and keep the Heat on their toes. it stifled them for small stretches in game 4. use it to prevent Wade from penetrating, just be wary of their spot up shooters. quite honestly, at this point, no one's shutting down Wade. our only hope is to lure Wade into offensive fouls and limit his time on the floor. this is where Lindsey and Ben can draw fouls. if Dale Davis can give Wade another hard, honest foul, i'd be ecstatic.
4. Play the bench early - this is on Flip. bring in Delfino, Delk, Lindsey and Dice early. don't bring them in when the game is slipping away and the starters are exhausted. i'd say bring 'em in about half way to three quarters of the way through the first quarter.
5. Run the ball - the Heat want to slow the game down. they want Shrek to preserve his energy by lumbering up the court. push the ball and out run these fools. we're at the Palace and the crowd will be dying and begging for something to cheer for. fast break points will ignite the crowd and the team can feed off of it.
all comebacks start with 1 win.
Anthony 05-31-2006, 09:46 AM Game 6 wins this series. I think the pistons have to win in big fashion tonight. Hopefully they go all balls out tonight
Uncle Mxy 05-31-2006, 11:47 AM Did Rip officially -not- have his Game 4 flagrant 1 upgraded to a flagrant 2 + suspension? It was Wade, after all... I'm surprised Rip isn't banned from the league for having the temerity, the unmitigated gall, to actually touch Wade during the course of the game. That 3-4' surrounding Wade is "sacred space", per new league rules coming down from David Stern.
you didn't see David Stern's snipers ready for a headshot on Rip? Stern called it off, for fear of a drop in ratings.

With that said, keep an eye on Sheed tonight on the offensive end. If he's loitering around the 3 point stripe and not offering to work for a rebound, we're done.
We need all 5 players tonight. If Sheed takes another night off, he can go ahead and fuck off.

Perfectly said Matt. Hopefully Flip has the same ideas in mind.
Matt, will you be around on Skype tonight? I'm really anxious to hear the game. Let me know through a PM or IM me at BallaForLif3. Thanks bro.
DETROOIITTT BASKETBALLLLLLLLLLL!!
findawg 05-31-2006, 05:12 PM Actually, don't worry about it Matt. They've got it on ESPN Radio.
Glenn 05-31-2006, 06:42 PM As unfathomable as it might be, this could be Ben Wallace's final game as a Piston.
Let's hope not.
Pistons by 18.

metr0man 05-31-2006, 07:41 PM have there been any comments from Joe D about this whole mess? Joe's really the only guy left who has the words to give me any confidence.
BubblesTheLion 05-31-2006, 07:51 PM have there been any comments from Joe D about this whole mess? Joe's really the only guy left who has the words to give me any confidence.
No , he hasn't said anything. He knows what he is watching and it's turned him mute
Black Dynamite 05-31-2006, 07:52 PM not even dumars can comfort this can of coaching whoop ass pat riley has put on Flip. I voted for the heat, but i'm hoping for the pistons. Our best chance at this point is mixing in atleast 4 different zones with constant activity, Hope miami misses the 3's they'll get from it, and an explosion from a healthy dyess and rasheed on offense. dyess has laid some serious eggs his damn self shooting wise. I want that hunger he had back, stop passing up shots. We must go at shaq. If they are bunching the paint, then set up rasheed and/or dyess up on him on the perimeter to abuse him off the dribble. We've bailed shaqs oversized foul waiting to happen ass out by shooting these jumpers. Go at him.
H1Man 05-31-2006, 10:52 PM On to Game 6, bitches.
Black Dynamite 05-31-2006, 11:08 PM still not a great game. but better defensively. but on offense i think we could have more success if we penetrate and kick out to dyess and sheed for open mid range jumpers. that seemed to be there.
one more thing. never have i wanted to see a team go down as much as i want to see the heat go down. Flexo has been looking for a fisticuff this whole series and i almost want to stab this bitter fag prick in his kidney with an ice pick.
Anthony 05-31-2006, 11:09 PM Finally, some Detroit Baseketball.
That is what the fuck i'm talking about.
And that fucking lepercon can take his hack-a-whoever is playing center and go fuck him self.
Black Dynamite 05-31-2006, 11:20 PM fagtoine walker uses his off arm on every drive because his fat unathletic ass can't jump, Zo fouls everybody and gets offended by being touched(i need that grant hill dunking on him footage), Wade annoys me to death with the bailouts he gets. no fundamentals whatsoever, manu gibobli ass muthafucka.
Last thing, Tayshaun has to score 20 or more points in miami friday. Or we are screwed. Billups has to also keep penetrating straight up. He can get alot of assists to open players out of that.
Sheed better fucking show up in game 6. I'm getting sick of this. Tonight didn't even look like the ankle. He just looked like he was coasting out there. Some of these threes he's been throwing up have been flat-out ugly.
Ohh yea... Tayshaun's the shit.
Moments of the game:
Ben Wallace blocking Shrek and forcing the jumpball
Tayshaun dunking the ball, swinging his nuts into Flexo's face
Riley playing hack-a-Dice, only to see Dice nail both FTs
Tayshaun finding a loose ball, only to nail a back breaking three
Game 6, bitches, Game 6.
micknugget 06-01-2006, 12:12 AM We didn't deserve to win this game. I can't believe how many wide open shots (not counting 3's) that we missed. At least we played with heart and pulled it out. If we can actually hit the open shots and play with the same energy as today, we should still win in 7.
Anthony 06-01-2006, 12:13 AM Yeah, Flexo had a bit of Roid Rage goin on there. I wonder if him and Barry have the same trainer?

I wish people would stop with this. Teams are going to miss open shots. It happens to every team. How many fucking shots did the heat miss. Its part of the game. Deal with it. Difference between this game and the last few is that we decided to get ballsy and actually play defense that was worth a damn.
eh, screw that. we deserved this win. our defense was the best of the entire series and our offense was the best of the entire series. i don't know what else you need to do to deserve a win.
if Rip, Chauncey and Sheed had shot even remotely decent percentages it would have been a 20+ pt win instead of a 13 pt win. marginal, imo.
Black Dynamite 06-01-2006, 12:19 AM who knows, but Zo is a fag. same shit everytime. he's trying to bait people into fights. he shoves tay then puts his hands up like he didnt do anything. then puts his fingers in Sheeds face when he tries to make peace. he's been trying to bait fights this whole series.
i rewatched the dvr. billups pentration was a big key to us winning along with tayshaun. Also the bigs cut to the basket better and got a better grip on the pass. We went after shaq with no resolve and it paid off.
Piston's blocks:
Game 1-4: 8 blocks
Game 5: 7 blocks
Anthony 06-01-2006, 12:21 AM And dont forget, Stony, from the stony and wojo show, sorta burried the pistons today on the show. Thats always a huge help ;)
Black Dynamite 06-01-2006, 12:23 AM and yea i agree with matt. it wasnt all the way pretty but we earned this win. the heat had 40+ FT's in game 5. less than half that in game 6. Also we did alot of solid things and had a decent gameplan.
Tahoe 06-01-2006, 01:31 AM We can bitch about what Zo did, but imo, thats what we lack sometimes. I didn't like it either but it was because he did it to us.
Last game he grabbed the ball after a whistle and dunked it on us during a timeout. We did nothing. Minor detail? Not to me.
We need to defend our fucking bucket at all times. Get a T, or whatever else to stand up to these fucking amateurs.
Ben brought his A game, Tay attacked the bucket, if we get more of that, we'll be fine. Pound for pound, Rip was a heavy weight tonight too. Scrapping away.
And CBill's 3 are getting closer and closer to dropping the way they used too. And when that happens, it over. Especially if RDub gets going too.
Black Dynamite 06-01-2006, 01:42 AM We can bitch about what Zo did, but imo, thats what we lack sometimes. I didn't like it either but it was because he did it to us.
we get technicals for doing what he does. i dont give a shit about whether we push people or not. our physical presence was better than the heat. Zo was being a bitch. i want my team ignoring that dumb shit. zo and trying to intimidate us. he's trying to bait us. we arent here for the first time and Zo aint intimidating anybody with that roid rage garbage.
We did exactly what i want us to do. get them back with basketball plays. not in the fisticuff bait garbage. i'll take ben wallace blocking shaq to the floor over him punching Zo all day. Tayshaun also got more aggressive after that play. What Zo does on the court is trash, i wouldnt want any of our guys wasting time like that for the 2.3 points per game he's giving.
Best we've looked in the last 9-10 games, but we need more of this:

PhatPat23 06-01-2006, 03:13 AM "you didn't see David Stern's snipers ready for a headshot on Rip? Stern called it off, for fear of a drop in ratings."
that was hilarious
did anyone else hear/see Shrek's interview about Ben's block?
he said it was a foul and for the reporter to stop asking stupid questions.
either a). he really thought it was a foul and is a moron or b). he felt it was a stupid question, since there wasn't much to say about the great block and he's still a moron.
Glenn 06-01-2006, 08:24 AM Gutz, I agree with you that Chauncey's penetration was a big success. I'd guess that we scored on about 85% of the plays when he broke down his defender and drove to the basket. He either pulled up and popped the short J, or slid the ball across to a wide open Dice.
I'd like to see a lot more of that.
And Ben's block was totally clean, but in Miami, that'll be a foul no question.
And Ben's block was totally clean, but in Miami, that'll be a foul no question.
Totally agreed. I said as much to myself when that happened.
Also, I didn't really mind that we went 0-8 (or 9) at one point from 3 point land. We were still winning because we were getting it done in the paint. That's the key to this whole series. When the Pistons have a presence in the paint, they're in the game and usually win. When they let one guy drive and stand around and watch, they don't stand much of a chance. They have to shoot 60%+ in order for that to work.
Getting back to Ben's total Shaq-pack - that was possibly the greatest thing I've ever seen on a basketball court. Good thing it happened at home.
btw, is it just me of did the Pistons do a great job w/ their zone defense last night? it seemed like it was the first time the Pistons were convinced the zone would be effective, instead of just going through to motions to appease Flip.
there were times when Wade really didn't look comfortable facing the zone.
from what i remember, Haslem only hit one midrange J against the Piston's zone. what killed them in game 4 was Haslem was nailing jumper after jumper vs the zone.
i definitely want to see them mix up the zone vs man to man to stifle Wade's penetration.

I'd like to see a lot more of that.
only if saunders is smart enough to notice it. To his credit i think he had the big guys make an emphasis on catching a clean pass when billups looks for them on the drive(they dropped and/or fumbled like five dump off passes in the last game in miami). i'd also like to see more taking shaq off the dribble. Quick feet my ass, he still is a flat footed oversized dickhead and should be made to pay for it.

man save that shit for a win in miami. because this means nothing unless they win on friday. and its not that i dont want them to win. its me needing to see proof of their capabilities. i need to see proof of Flip as a consistently good coach.
you know one espn guy said that the players havent lost a lick of faith in each other, but it was when they looked to leadership and adjustments to Flip and got not much in return. Flip did a better job and the players responded with better energy in game 5. but i gotta see them sustain that in a hostile environment. hopefully chuck daly gave him some big time advice.
lol, i hear ya. i'm just playin'.
i'm just happy that i was FINALLY able to go to bed last night happy after a Piston's game. it feels like it's been FOREVER since i've been able to do that.
Glenn 06-01-2006, 09:21 AM Gutz, I've been meaning to compliment you on your sig.

WTFchris 06-01-2006, 11:07 AM And Shaq was bitching after the game about it too. He said it was a foul. LOL. Just like the clean block Hunter had on Haslem that they messed up too.
Tahoe 06-01-2006, 12:56 PM Just noticed Matt brought "THE BLOCK" to us via yt. thx. That is right there with Tay's humiliation of Reggie a couple of years ago.
Glenn 06-01-2006, 12:59 PM The block is great, but it's nothing but a novelty if we don't win the series. It certainly shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Tay's block on Reggie, IMO.
Tahoe 06-02-2006, 12:15 AM For me...its partly that it is Shaq, partly that its a clear view, imo, that Ben had all ball, and partly that Shaqs arms look like they have been manhandled to where they are almost collapsed. If only the ball would be shoved in his mouth.
But fair enough on the results of the 2 blocks. It wasn't a game winning block like Tays.
PhatPat23 06-02-2006, 12:24 AM random fact... last two losses, we had two and four fast break points
last two wins - 12 and 14

comes from defense. steals and blocks turn into fast break points.
