View Full Version : Nuggets looking to trade Martin for sure
Cross 05-21-2006, 06:48 AM Denver Post - The Denver Post is reporting that the Nuggets have put out feelers for forward Kenyon Martin, and were recently turned down by the Portland Trail Blazers when inquiring about a Zach Randolph for Martin swap.
According to the Denver Post, another NBA source said the Nuggets have turned down possible trades for Martin from a Western Conference and Eastern Conference team.
Bet you that eastern conference team was a team in New York
Pharaoh 05-21-2006, 07:00 AM Denver would be wise to take Jalen Rose and a late first rounder from NY.
Will the Knicks offered that? I'm sure I read something about the Knicks (actually Dolan) not wanting to add long-term contracts. I can't remember where I read it though
Taymelo 05-21-2006, 07:35 AM An unquestionably highly overrated player with a HUGE contract and lingering injury issues?
Know what they call that?
That, my friends, is what they call "a Knickerbocker".

It will be more than that IMO. Thomas will overpay, again. Francis and a 1st? Rose and a high 1st? Something bigger.
It won't be as much as Kiki payed for him.
Pharaoh 05-21-2006, 11:04 AM Please, Kiki gave up very little for Martin.
Sure he's overpaid but so are a ton of players. The picks he gave up aren't worth much either.
Didn't we go through this before, Fool?
And I'm sure Zeke would give up more if he could, but what else does he have? Frye? Lee?
LMMFAO - Thomas will probably trade Rose, first rounder + Frye for K-Mart
3 firsts. Denvers not getting that. Thus my statement is true.
Yes we did go over it before and your point of "well the Nets aren't going to use those well anyway" is still as poor as it was then.
Though, betting on Zeke not to be dumber than Kiki is a weak position I admit.

Well, they used two of them + an expiring and crap for VC, and were able to hold onto the Clippers pick that most everyone figured would be a lottery pick. As it stands, Jersey has two adjacent picks #22 and #23 in 2006, which could be interesting (though I bet Thorn was hoping for the Clippers to be in the lottery :) ).
Cross 05-22-2006, 05:10 AM Heat were interested according to the Ny daily news...
Pharaoh 05-22-2006, 12:55 PM The fact remains all 3 picks NJ got for Martin were/are worth crap.
What became of those picks after Kiki dealt them has nothing to do with him.
Following the logic of Uncle Mxy:
Joe traded the Memphis pick and our 2006 first rounder for Kelvin Cato and a 2007 Orlando pick
Burn him!

Of course what others did with the assets Kiki gave them is pertinent. If he'd have given them a player and that player turned into a superstar, no one would try to pretend it didn't matter. If not, then by that logic what Martin did after Kiki got him is irrelevant.
Yes, Joe using the #2 pick and the 2006 pick for basically a late first rounder in 07 and some cap space was a terrible deal. If that was the pinnacle of his accomplishments he would be out on his ear. It just so happens that his accomplishments have outweighed that mistake. He gambled and lost. It happens and maybe he did make the best (with the Orlando trade) of the overall bad situation that came to be from drafting Darko. But if things like that happen too often we call the guy responsible a bad GM.
Uncle Mxy 05-22-2006, 01:12 PM I was just reporting what the picks were, and that the Nets did a good job of taking those picks and turning them into something useful. I'd take Vince over Kenyon on most days.
Were they great picks? Ultimately, not really. But, 3 first round picks always struck me as one pick too many in that Kenyon Martin S+T, especially with one being a Clippers pick that would historically been a lottery pick. I doubt Kiki was thinking the Clippers would suddenly turn into a playoff team.

According to a report published in the New York Daily News, two Nets sources said the team has and will continue to discuss whether obtaining Kenyon Martin this summer is realistic and feasible.
The Nets signed and traded Martin to Denver in July 2004 for three future first round picks after refusing to give him a maximum contract. He is still owed $70 million over the next five seasons.
Nets president Rod Thorn says he does not want to trade Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson or Nenad Krstic unless a superstar comes back in return.
WTF?
I wonder if the Nets will also send them a few picks in return
Pharaoh 05-23-2006, 10:59 AM OK, I understand Fool's point and admit I lost it on the "what happened after the fact doesn't matter" thing.
This discussion just pisses me off. It seems to be the one thing people wanna talk about when we're discussing Kiki or K-Mart.
Why is it all about the sign and trade? What about Martin's play? What about Kiki's other moves? I hate Martin (another Flexo) but think Kiki was a very good GM for Denver.
I think I've stated my case on this before and I don't really care enough to go through it again. We don't all have to agree on everything.
I think Kiki made a decent deal. Some people don't. That's cool.
