I would be suprised if they left the body buried for someone to unearth later.
I would think the most untraceable thing to do would be to take the body straight to a crematorium, and then scatter all his personal effects and metal items in the Great Lakes in different places.

I bet he's been relocated several times, if he was buried at all. Plus, it's been so long that I'm sure there's not much left - I'm sure they dumped lye all over his body to help accelerate the decomposition.
