NEW YORK, May 12, 2006 – The NBA announced today that Clifford Robinson (http://www.nba.com/playerfile/clifford_robinson/index.html) of the New Jersey Nets has been suspended without pay for five games for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program. Robinson’s suspension will begin with tonight’s game between the New Jersey Nets and the Miami Heat.
Glenn 05-12-2006, 03:22 PM He just can't give up the stinkweed, can he?
Maybe it helps him cope with his herpes symptoms?
I bet the NJN miss Scalabrine right about now, but hey, who wouldn't?
Darth Thanatos 05-12-2006, 03:54 PM Does he really have herpes?
And man, dude needs to drop the herb. I remember him getting suspended for the same thing in GS. I figured through old age he would learn his lesson, but I was wrong.
Black Dynamite 05-12-2006, 04:08 PM Does he really have herpes?.
Herpes is best known for intermittently producing embarrassing sores on the mouth and genitals, yet representing a major public health problem in the world. It is a persistent, chronic infection with a dynamic interaction between the host and the virus. Listed below are some poorly appreciated facts about this viral infection, which are fascinating, enlightening, and helpful in clinical practice.
Besides being the #1 topic on the National STD Hotline and second greatest concern to sexually active people (the first is AIDS), ex-girlfriends of sports figures are suing for acquiring herpes from their former lovers. Four years ago, one professional basketball player, Juwan Howard, was reportedly sued for $500,000. One year ago, a different professional basketball player, Cliff Robinson, was supposedly sued for $10,000,000 for the same offense. Note that the cost of not using suppressive therapy is obviously increasing.
Quoting a noted medical textbook, with primary herpes infections, viremia occurs and the virus spreads to virtually all organs of the body (1). Viremia has been reported to frequently occur in neonatal herpes simplex infections (2), genital herpes (3), and herpes labialis (4) in otherwise healthy individuals. HSV viremia during attacks of primary and recurrent herpes infections is more frequent than previously appreciated. Moreover, numerous articles are available revealing the existence of the virus in all organs of the body by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) studies.

Anthony 05-12-2006, 04:56 PM Cliffy is a pot head? No way!
I am not surprised Uncle Chronic got caught smoking but to me the timing is odd. I am not saying this really kills the Nets or there is a conspiracy behind this, I just can't remember a time in any sports playoff where a guy got nailed for drugs.
WTFchris 05-13-2006, 12:32 PM I've been watching their series and he's not much of a loss. Cliffy is a waste of a roster spot these days.

CLIFF LET OFF HOOK (FOR NOW)
By FRED KERBER
May 16, 2006 -- NET NOTES MIAMI - Cliff Robinson visited the Nets yesterday before they flew here for tonight's Game 5.
"He was here. He sat through the film, the whole nine yards," said coach Lawrence Frank, who declined to discuss what Robinson said to his teammates. "What goes on in that locker room stays in that locker room, but he was here," Frank said. "He was an active participant . . . He has spoken to his teammates."
Robinson appeared contrite about having drawn a five-game suspension for violating the NBA's anti-drug policy. Robinson was sacked by the league after Game 2 and missed Games 3 and 4, both losses in which the Nets' lack of manpower was obvious as they withered late in the games.
"We miss him. He's an important part of our team. But I wouldn't blame any of these losses on him," said Richard Jefferson. "It's not like Shaq has dominated us and gotten a bunch of our bigs in foul trouble. Jason Collins and the guys that have been guarding him have done a great job in Cliff's absence."
If the Heat close out the Nets here tonight, Robinson's ban will continue for the first two games next season. The team holds a $2.5 million option on the 39-year-old forward for next year, but it's a virtual certainty the Nets will not bring him back.

The appearance by Cliff Robinson at Monday's practice was appreciated by his Nets teammates, but they all said he didn't have much to say other than, "I'm sorry."
"He's upset still," said Murray, his closest friend on the team. "Tough situation. He apologized for, you know, putting us in this situation. That was basically it."
"His personality is great to have around, that is what we miss the most," Carter said. "He is not here and we understand that. (but) we are not making excuses for who is not here. I just say leave it alone. It is what it is."
Jefferson added, "I know Cliff is a story but he's not the story. Let's be realistic. I'm not trying to take anything away from Cliff. There's no need to blame anything on him. We got blitzkrieged with Cliff in Game 2."
The one person who wasn't particularly sympathetic was the captain.
On the TNT telecast, Kidd said, "I'm very disappointed in Cliff. He showed his concern for putting the team second. He put his personal pleasure first, which cost him a suspension and put the team in a tough spot."
After the game, Kidd was asked to expound. "It was disappointment for us to work this hard and be there, but as teammates we have to support in time of need and not criticize. I wasn't criticizing Cliff at all. Maybe they took in into their own words, but I was disappointed more than upset."
Anthony 05-17-2006, 01:27 PM Personal Pleasure.....LOL
it is what it is.
i love when athletes use that line to evade questions.
