Sad, but he lived a good life and should be proud of the man he raised.

Gotta feel bad for Tiger, I know he gives his dad all the credit for helping him become the greatest golfer of all time. I still remember the 98 masters when Tiger won it and his dad was waiting for him at 18.

What? He was an asshole? Explain.
What? He was an asshole? Explain.
People think he was an asshole because he was misquoted or taken out of context in a few articles. At one time he said something along the lines of what Tiger does on the golf course will be nothing comapared to what he will do off and in society. However somehow when the article came out it said Tiger will have more impact on the world than Ghandi.
Also Mr. Woods had the public perception of being an overbarring hard ass who made Tiger play golf and controlled his life. However a lot of Earl's putting himself out there was to take the focus/pressure off Tiger, and once Tiger made it he step aside. I am biast though to some degree because my grandfather was a soldier with Mr. Woods, and he told me what a great guy he always was.

Pharaoh, I've no idea whether he was an asshole--I say that line about everybody. It amuses me. Too many 80's horror movies or growing up in the suburbs or some combination thereof... It's very post-modern. Very pre-modern as well. (Jesus, do you think they'll buy this shit? . . . Yes.)
Some day I'll come down to visit my own funeral and mutter the same words amongst the crowd at my wake. It'll be a blast.
Sorry if you had a thing for Tiger's dad.

I thought you might have some cool stories of Tiger's Dad being a prick, but I was wrong.
Very disappointed.
Lucky JS saved the day.

That's too bad. Earl Woods was an influential part of his son's life. I wish I had a father like him, or even a father.

Sorry to hear about that, Arch, seriously.

Was I the only one that wondered when he heard this if his condition was caused or at least worsened by the chemicals they spray on the golf course?
Given that prostate cancer is usually treatable, I'm guessing either he waited too long, or the guy had too many pesticides running around his bloodstream, or some combination.
I'll tell you something though. I've got a friend who is trying to get me into golf, and things I hear about getting cancer from those pesticides honestly scares me away. Not that this is the only reason I would avoid golf, of course, but its just another reason to add to the list.
