In a surprise to no one... but da-a-am!!!

Rookie Johnson can leap tall coaches in a single bound

For Pistons rookie Amir Johnson , it was no big deal. But it was a different story for everybody else witnessing Tuesday's practice.

Johnson, who turned 19 on Monday, leapfrogged unsuspecting Pistons coach Kevin Wilson .

Johnson, who is 6-foot-9, came behind Wilson, put his hands on his shoulders, and jumped straight over an unbowed Wilson with ease. Johnson had enough clearance to get his baggy shorts well over Wilson's head.

And Wilson is 6-4.

"That was pretty impressive," Wilson said, laughing. "I'm glad he made it, otherwise I would be pretty unhappy with him crashing down on top of me."

He has been involved with camps and clinics for over 35 years, directing camps in Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin and California. His coaching experience includes a five-year run as head coach at Chapman University (1984-89) and a six-year run as head coach at San Francisco State. Wilson served as an assistant coach at the University
of Minnesota from 1971-75, where he recruited Pistons head coach Flip Saunders and helped lead the Gophers to the Big Ten Championship in 1971-72. Wilson played college basketball at Ashland University under Bill Musselman and was a two-time All American and captain in 1969 and 1970. Ashland was UPI and Associated Press National Champions in 1969 and national defensive champions for four straight seasons in which he played.
