View Full Version : slap in the face to detroit?
b-diddy 05-04-2006, 01:43 AM whats the deal with the pistons getting the 6 o'clock start (i realize it was to put lebron in prime time)?
complete bs to me.
pistons have been to the finals 2 years running. we're as close to a lock as can be to get there this year.
you think the bulls ever took a backseat to anyone (even when they were beating the opponents by 20 every night)? the lakers?
this is complete bullshit to me. i dont care if this is obviously the least exciting matchup in the first round. the pistons should be a marque team in the league, yet theyre routinely given the JV treatment.
the league's treatment of the pistons is mind numbingly stupid. the league spends so many resources hyping the AI's, the kg's, the stephons of the league, and where are they now? kobe, wade, and lebron might not even make it out of the first round.
heres a revolutionary thought, why not give the likely finals teams (Detroit and spurs/mavs) a little extra national exposure, and maybe we wont have another horribly rated finals again.
last i checked, detroit metro is still one of the biggest basketball regions in the world. you'd think we'd get a little more respect than cleveland (wheres that?) and fucking washington DC.
(bitter because this is the only game where i might have been able to watch more than 5 minutes, had the game been on at the right time)
Kstat 05-04-2006, 01:58 AM I actually liked 6PM much better.
The crowd was certainly louder, too.
Of course, the simple explanation is that only a brain-dead idiot would give a series that everybody knew was already over priority over a deadlocked series. There was no way around this. TNT had to have its double-header, and the two host cities were in the same time zone.
Uncle Mxy 05-04-2006, 06:16 AM I was happy enough to get it over with sooner.
The only problem I had was with a fucknut neighbor who got some nastyass lawnmower of loud doom that sounds more like a fucking chainsaw, which would not have been in play had the game started at a couple hours later.
Pharaoh 05-04-2006, 09:36 AM So, this thread is about Diddy being pissed about a 6pm tip-off and Mxy whining because some fucker with a loud lawnmower caused him to miss hearing the game some of the time?
Fuck you both! You're both ignorant pieces of shit! WTF? STFU!
I can't even fucking see the game on TV and you're whining about this shit? Get over it.
Fuck!
(sorry, I'm always more angry during the playoffs. It comes from not being able to be see 1 game live or for free)
I guess I can't get too worked up about it. It really promised to be a boring game, and it was. I'm actually surprised it was on national TV, since two of the games weren't (THAT pissed me off).
Black Dynamite 05-04-2006, 11:11 AM i'd be more offended about all these teams stealing our ideas. from the going to work whistles to announcers trynna yell slogans like mason. but 6pm? who gives a shit. gives the players a chance to be with their families sooner. shit, muthafuckas got a good homecooked meal for once probally getting home before 9pm. :o
As long as we are in the finals they can start games at 3pm on thursday for all i care.
Anthony 05-04-2006, 11:20 AM Who cares? They'll have to deal with us in june.
Taymelo 05-04-2006, 11:33 AM I think it was bs.
My son didn't go to sleep until the game was almost over. With a 7:30 start, he's down by mid-1st quarter and I can enjoy the game. With an 8pm start, on a good night, he's down before Ben wins the tip.
David Stern will rot in hell for this one!!@!!@#!@#!@
Oh, and its disrespectful to the Pistons, too. They make it seem like the Pistons/Bucks series was a dog, and that ALL THE OTHER playoff series were great, and that's why they did it.
Bullshit. The Pistons/Bucks series was more competitive than the Mavs/Griz series, and the Denver/LA Clipper series.
In reality, it had everything to do with "superstar players" and nothing to do with which series was good or bad.
Miami could play the little sisters of the poor, and Shaq's fat, old, slow, ass would be on TNT prime-time each and every game.
Cleveland could play Ball State University, and they'd be tipping off on TNT prime-time.
SIX PM for the best team in the NBA!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Fuck that.
Oh, one more thing I noticed: It seems like all of the powers that be, i.e. the television networks and whoever votes for regular season awards (NBA GM's???) are totally focused on the Western Conference, and just don't know or care all that much about the East.
Steve Nash who is worse than Billups but plays in the West = MVP.
Avery Johnson who did nothing different than Flip Saunders (took over a good team and won even more games) but coaches a Western Conference team = coach of the year.
Boris Diaw is the most improved player in the ENTIRE NBA? No. He wasn't, but he plays in the Western Conference.
Mike Miller - 6th man award - plays in the Western Conference.
In fact, other than DPOY, did ANY award go to ANY player in the East?
Clearly, there's still a Western Conference bias. What I don't understand, is why Eastern Conference GM's are so biased in favor of the Western Conference. Oh, I get it - they watch a lot of TNT.
Where have you been Taymelo?
Taymelo 05-04-2006, 11:42 AM Where have you been Taymelo?
I was wondering if anyone noticed me missing!
First, I went to Florida, and then came home and had laser eye surgery and was stuck in bed for a few days with ice on my eyes. After that, I couldn't really read the computer screen for a few days. Now, I'm back to my usual, cantankerous old self.

In this case, it was more like a recent experience seeing a movie with a friend who poked me in the shoulder and asked me what was going on in the movie every couple minutes. I wanted to kill her if she didn't STFU, but she just was not shutting the fuck up! It was a little beyond just not hearing the game... I couldn't hear myself think!
But yes, having lived away from Detroit for part of the Isiah era, I know what it's like to not see the games. I feel for your Pharaoh, and I'll be grateful that I am not in your timezone and broadcast market.

You're scaring me Tay. I was thinking about LASIK and they say how easy the recovery is...but in bed with ice over the eyes for a couple days? That doesn't sound so "easy".

The Pistons really should play on Australian time.
Darth Thanatos 05-04-2006, 03:13 PM How ungrateful.
Quit complaining about little stuff, sit back, and enjoy the ride. At least we're good enough to even be on national TV, not to mention 6 PM is a great time to start a game. I can get on with my day.
Washington/Cleveland is also a much more competitive series, so why not put that in the prime time slot?
Taymelo 05-04-2006, 04:37 PM Can you admit you were scurrrred Taymelo?
No. I wasn't scared I was going to lose my sight, or anything.
It just got frustrating and depressing being stuck in bed for days on end without even being able to see the tv or read or even watch the Pistons in the playoffs.
Yes. Cry for me. All of you. Then give me money.

I didn't have Lasik. I had what they now call "Lasek", but used to call PRK, and before that called it RK. I wasn't a candidate for Lasik b/c my eyes are more football shaped than basketball shaped.

Varsity 05-06-2006, 11:22 PM Speaking of a slap in the face, the World Champs play the 3rd best team in the NBA and have to play at 1, while the Pistons play a weaker team with Lebron at 3. Not only is San An/Dallas the best game, it's got the NBA Champs in it. Maybe we should chill before we speaking about "slaps" in the face.
Darth Thanatos 05-07-2006, 03:40 PM The Spurs also got stuck on NBATV a few times.
MoTown 05-07-2006, 10:11 PM The Spurs also got stuck on NBATV a few times.
Exactly. It has nothing to do with lack of respect. It's all what Stern thinks will get the better ratings. However, if this is what the Pistons need to get a chip on their shoulder, then let them feel disrespected.
