I'm gonna go ahead and call it
No canadian team will win the cup

Edmonton possibly plays Calgary if Anaheim doesnt take them out (which i hope they do) in round 2 so that eliminates 1 of them

Montreal went out last night to Carolina

and Ottawa has goaltending issues

Buffalo or New Jersey will come out of the East

and San Jose will come out of the West

Sadly so, Jersey looks the most dominant so far. Sure, The Rangers were sans Jagr, but the rest of The Blueshirts should have at least mustered one win.

Elias is a force right now. This is actually a bummer, because The Wings will be looking to make a lot of moves in the offseason and his pricetag is rising by the minute.

I actually hope that Colorado comes out of The West....although it is unlikely.

Hockey is strange like that. It's actually more confusing that the East had 1-4 seeds advance.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Ilya Bryzgalov (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/274010) wasn't terribly impressed that he tied an NHL rookie record set in 1945.
"It's not a big deal for me. It's fun because we won the game," the Anaheim (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/teams/page/ANA) goalie said Sunday after he blanked Colorado (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/teams/page/COL) in a 3-0 Mighty Ducks' victory for his third consecutive shutout of the playoffs.
The victory gave Anaheim a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinal that resumes in Colorado on Tuesday night.
Bryzgalov, who made 22 saves in the win, matched the record by Toronto's Frank McCool, who had three postseason shutouts in a row as a rookie against Detroit in 1945.
Bryzgalov supplanted 2003 playoffs MVP Jean-Sebastien Giguere (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/19875) as the Ducks' No. 1 goalie during the opening round against Calgary. The 25-year-old Russian shut out the Flames in Game 7, then blanked the Avalanche in Anaheim's series-opening 5-0 win.
"I don't even think he realizes," Anaheim's Teemu Selanne (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/19377) said of Bryzgalov's impressive string. "He's just a guy who goes out there and has fun and doesn't take any pressure or anything."
Selanne grinned and added, "So don't tell him."

Bryzgalov hasn't allowed a goal in 229 minutes, 42 seconds, longest ever by an NHL rookie in the postseason, and fourth longest for any goalie. George Hainsworth tops the list with a stretch of 270:08 in 1930. Giguere is sixth on the list with 217:54 scoreless minutes in 2003.
Bryzgalov has said reading philosophers such as Socrates and Plato has helped him put things in perspective, and that he feels no pressure in goal because hockey is, after all, a game.
"I concentrate for a game and help my team win the game," he said. "I always feel confident. Right now I feel confident because our team is playing well and they're giving me confidence."
Ryan Getzlaf (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/433595) opened the scoring in the first period, and Ruslan Salei (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/19562) and Joffrey Lupul (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/372289) added goals in the second.
The 6-foot-3, 208-pound Bryzgalov's play impressed Colorado's Ian Laperriere (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/19469).
"He's a big kid. He made unbelievable saves when he had to, but if you put more quality shots on the net and more traffic, you'll have more chances to score," Laperriere said.
Dominating the second game almost as handily as they did the first, the Ducks outshot the Avalanche 35-22, and Colorado had only 10 shots until the final period.
"We had our best chances in the third period," Colorado coach Joel Quenneville said. "We didn't generate a whole lot in the first two. We still need the puck more and more people getting in there, and we're having a hard time finding it right now."
He hopes returning home will change the momentum.
"It's exciting to get back and play in front of our fans on home ice. We've played well there all year," Quenneville said. "We've just got to get back there and grab the next game."
Bryzgalov took over for the Ducks when Giguere missed the first game of the opening playoffs with a lower body injury, then Giguere returned and was inconsistent, so the Russian got the job.
Although the Ducks' defense kept the pressure off the goalie most of the game, he made several fines saves, including reaching behind him to snare the puck on a close-range shot by Alex Tanguay (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/20534).
Among his other saves was blocking Joe Sakic's shot from the slot on an Avalanche power play -- Colorado's first shot -- 12:55 into the game. Sakic got off another shot near the crease at 18:40 of the second period, but Bryzgalov turned that aside as well.
Colorado goalie Jose Theodore (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/20165) was considerably busier, making 32 saves.
Lupul made it 3-0 at 12:24 of the period after Salei had scored at 4:41. Salei got his second goal of the postseason on a slap shot from just inside the left point.
The Ducks expected the Avalanche to come out strongly early in the second game being outshot 14-4 in the first period of the lopsided loss in the opener. It didn't happen.
Colorado didn't get off a shot for the first 7:05, had only three in the first 15 minutes and was outshot 11-6 in the first period.
Finally, on a power play that began at 14:08 of the first period, the Avalanche managed two shots -- but so did the short-handed Ducks.

Notes

The Ducks have scored 13 straight goals dating to Game 6 against Calgary.
For the second game in a row, the Ducks skated and hit with much more energy than the Avalanche. Anaheim had just one day off between Game 7 against Calgary and Friday's second-round opener against Colorado. The Avalanche had been off since wrapping up their series against Dallas in Game 5 on Sunday.
Anaheim RW Corey Perry missed his second game in a row because of a knee injury.
Giguere had three consecutive shutouts and a total of six in the 2003 playoffs, when the Ducks lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to New Jersey.

That hit was NASTY, just a minute into the game. Talk about trying to set a tone. Buffalo's looked real good, they're a fun team to watch, I hope he can come back for them. That team could win the cup if healthy. They've got one of the 700 Miller boys in net.

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Dwayne Roloson (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/19510) and the Edmonton Oilers (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/teams/page/EDM) protected the Canadian national anthem from another round of booing. They knocked out San Jose before the Sharks could get the series back home.
Michael Peca (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/20077) and Shawn Horcoff (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/204580) scored in front of a sellout crowd of pompom-waving fans Wednesday night, and Roloson made 24 saves in the biggest game of his career as the eighth-seeded Oilers beat the Sharks 2-0 in Game 6 of the quarterfinal series.
That put the Oilers in the Western Conference finals for the first time in 14 years.
"No one wanted to go back for Game 7 in San Jose," Horcoff said. "To come back and win four straight against that team shows a lot about our character."
After dropping the first two games in San Jose, Edmonton stormed back with four straight victories. It is the first time the Oilers rallied from an 0-2 deficit to win a series. They won two in a row at home and took Game 5 in San Jose after fans there booed the Canadian anthem.
That was just another sour note during the Sharks' sudden and unexpected slide.
"It's always tough to lose especially when you have the series lead," Sharks forward Jonathan Cheechoo (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/154182) said. "We're going home. It's just really disappointing."

Edmonton will now face the sixth-seeded Anaheim Mighty Ducks (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/teams/page/ANA), who will host Game 1 on Friday. The winner of the best-of-7 series will take on the Eastern champion -- Buffalo or Carolina -- in the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Oilers just squeaked into the playoffs but are peaking at the right time. They upset No. 1 seed Detroit and then took out San Jose, the top team left in the wild West, to reach the NHL's final four for the first time since 1992.
"This is obviously an exciting day," forward Ryan Smyth (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/19608) said. "We want to go down to Anaheim and give ourselves another chance. ... It's nice to shut another team out."
Peca scored when he and Sharks defenseman Scott Hannan (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/20438) chased a loose puck over the San Jose blue line. He outfought Hannan, and sent him down to the ice before racing in and wiring a wrist shot past the glove of goalie Vesa Toskala (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/204816).
Horcoff doubled the lead with just over 8 minutes left in the game. He took Todd Harvey's (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/19102) pass from the corner and found himself alone in front of the net. With Toskala out of position, Horcoff lifted a shot in under the crossbar.
The Oilers were bailed out by Roloson after taking seven minor penalties in the first two periods. Roloson got stronger throughout and posted his first career playoff shutout.
"It's starts from your defense up, and we seem to play solid defensive hockey," Smyth said.
In the first period, Roloson used his quick glove hand to thwart Sharks captain Patrick Marleau (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/19674) on a close-in wrist shot. Soon after, on a 5-on-3 power play, he jumped in the air like a shortstop to snag a puck flying through the slot.
"We had our opportunities but we never scored," Sharks coach Ron Wilson said. "It certainly wasn't for lack of trying or lack of effort. It was one of those nights where we always would seem to be a foot away from a rebound or overskated an open opportunity.
"We were pressing, throwing everything at them, but it just didn't work."
Roloson also foiled Nils Ekman (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/166870) on a one-timer in front of the crease, and got a little help when Steve Bernier (http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/433203) fired a shot off the crossbar in the second period.
He also credited the players in front of him for wiping out other scoring chances.
"When you're eliminating passing lanes, it's hard for them to get anything going," Roloson said.
Toskala also played well, stopping Peca on two breakaways in the first period and flicking out his right pad to stop Horcoff's breakaway in the second.
The Oilers fans razzed Toskala, who allowed 11 goals in the previous two games after giving up just five in the first three. The crowd serenaded the goalie with mocking chants of "Ve-sa! Ve-sa!"
The Sharks can also blame their exit on their woeful power play. San Jose was 2-for-27 going into the game and then went 0-for-8 on Wednesday.
This is the second consecutive season the Sharks have been knocked out by an Alberta-based team. They lost the 2004 Western Conference finals to the Calgary Flames, also in six games. San Jose was an overtime goal away in Game 3 from taking a 3-0 lead in the series but instead lost in the second extra session.
The turning point on the series came midway through Game 4 when the Sharks failed to protect a 3-1 lead. The Oilers stormed back in a 5-minute span to tie the game and then went on to win 6-3.
Notes

Edmonton fans cheered the U.S. national anthem so loudly that the noise drowned out singer Paul Lorieau. Oilers fans were asked to be on their best behavior after some in the crowd in San Jose before Game 5 booed the Canadian anthem.
The Oilers are the only remaining team that has won a Stanley Cup title. They earned their fifth in 1990.
Edmonton played its 12th game this postseason, the most of any team.
Harvey's assist was his first playoff point.

A vote for Buffalo is a vote for the wily Michigan Stater: Ryan Miller.

A fine choice, Sir.

Personally, I'm pretty thrilled about The Oilers. If you're gonna beat The Wings, you better advance. Going with the current trend, Edmonton should make it to The Finals.

Michigan STATE starter Miller

and a vote for Edmonton
is a vote for MSU Alumnus Shawn Horcoff......so either way you're in good stead

A few things to support your arguement:

colour
centre
defence

I'm sure there's more, but that's all that comes to mind right now.

I'm starting to think i'll be committed to a 10 by 10 padded room because i'm talking to myself and some imaginary friend named Shug......i mean who calls themselves shug?? i must be insane

anyways Edmonton took a 3-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals series against the formerly Mighty Ducks of Anaheim

you guys remember Edmonton right?
the team Motown scoffed at, laughed at and completely dismissed until all of a sudden the Presidents Cup turned into a pumpkin

well this Cinderella team is staying out past curfew and is looking to score

I love the fact that Edmonton is doing well. It just validates that Detroit got beat by one of the best teams in the postseason. I'm still not "happy" about it, but it does make me feel better.

isnt that the way fans and players alike think after their team gets beat out. They get a perceived sense of vindication, closure or slight confidence boost from the fact that they got beat by the "best" team......whatever helps them sleep at night

Gee....what would make you say that?

OK, seriously, I have some great ideas:

1.) We could start bashing the Pistons and Lions. Maybe if we're rowdy enough we can drag people in here to at least argue.

2.) We could hand out Jeff Buekeboom or Stu Grimson bobbleheads to the first 3000 posters in the hockey forum.

3.) We could start a gambling ring with a high profile hockey star....wait...has this been done already?

4.) We could encourage Bertuzzi to break someone else's neck....that was all over the news....right? People couldn't stop talking about that one.

5.) We could encourage The Wings to trade for Barry Bonds or maybe get Claude Lemieux to come out of retirement.

Do you have any ideas?

assassinate Gary Bettman?

I actually thought about that, but why waste the bullet?

Fraserburn

who said we'd shoot him?

I've got some old rope in the back yard we could have a good old fashioned hanging in the old mall the Whalers used to play in

Shugadaddi
05-24-2006, 02:03 PM
The Mall....HA! I forgot about that.

Bettman has to go, but watch him get a nice TV deal before next season and save his ass again. I still can't get over the fact that if you put a tiny moustace on him that he looks just like Hitler.

Fraserburn
05-24-2006, 02:15 PM
theres no way he signs another TV deal this offseason
he's determined to turn OLN into his own little NHL network

he just plows through without lubrication and the league and all the fans are getting burned because of it

Shugadaddi
05-24-2006, 02:17 PM
Oh, there's no question that he is the worst...I just don't see them making a change at the helm. I mean, c'mon....he already fucked up and cost the players and the fans a whole season. How do you fuck up worse than that?

05-24-2006, 03:07 PM
Hey, if you think flying a huge ballon full of the most flammable gas over some power lines is a bad idea....then I guess that's where you're right. This, however, has nothing to do with the fact that Bettman looks like a mini-Hitler.

Fraserburn
05-24-2006, 03:21 PM
well he is putting players into the penalty box more often, but he hasnt started pumping gas in there yet
