View Full Version : Is this the greatest playoffs ever???
Artis Gilmore 05-01-2006, 05:06 PM I haven't been around a lot of playoffs, but this is the best one I've seen so far. Maybe since the 2002 playoffs. I bet you guys can argue my case because you guys have been around a lot longer than I have. But I couldnt imagine a better one.
it's only the first round......my best playoff run memory was the 04 championship run. i got to goto a bunch of games and it was amazing.
at the end of this playoff run, if we win it all, it might be pretty sweet.
i think we can judge everything after a few more rounds.
DennyMcLain 05-01-2006, 05:55 PM I do believ the 1949 playoffs, with the Syracuse Nationals and Ft. Wayne and Cleveland Steamers all with improbable series upsets ranks as the best.
So far.
Anthony 05-01-2006, 06:09 PM So far its been the most unpredictable i've seen.

I'm not talking about the Pistons.
I'm talking about all around playoffs. All the rounds that have been going on.
yeah, i know. there's been some crazy shit, but all i'm saying is that it's only the first round to be calling it the "best ever".
Artis Gilmore 05-01-2006, 09:14 PM True.
Ok, maybe best first rounds of games ever. But I bet it will get even more exciting.
Uncle Mxy 05-01-2006, 11:52 PM For me as a Pistons fan, it's the '88 playoffs, with the Bad Boys taking on Jordan's Bulls, Bird's Celtics, and Magic's Lakers dynasties. If not for a bogus phantom foul call on Laimbeer, we win a championship.
Kstat 05-02-2006, 12:30 AM So far its been the best 1st round ever, far as I can remember.
That only holds true though, if we get at LEAST 4 games 7s.
Pharaoh 05-02-2006, 11:50 AM Why does it ONLY hold true if we get at least 4 game 7's?
Glenn 05-02-2006, 11:51 AM It's been an entertaining 1st round, but "best playoffs ever" is a little bold, at least as of today.
Black Dynamite 05-06-2006, 04:21 PM It's been an entertaining 1st round, but "best playoffs ever" is a little bold, at least as of today.
if you werent around for the years of the nuggets upset and the knicks wild run from the 7 spot. or my favorite, the pistons championship year when the bulls shocked the cavs(a cavs team we always had trouble with). there were many off the hook playoffs i've seen. this year is alright. only one team left with an actual chance to upset(the lakers). not that amazing to me. it had a nice start though.

As alluded to, my favorite playoffs were the year when the Nuggets took out the Sonics. The Sonics were among the favorites to win the West, and this ragtag bunch of unprovens takes them out--Robert Pack, Chris Jackson (Macmoud Abdul-Rauf), Mutombo when he wasn't yet an asshole, and Laphonso Ellis, who very soon would blow out his knee. Dan Issel was the genius coach. That team looked to be exciting for years to come, but it fizzled out quickly. How many people even remember Robert Pack?
That was a fun year.
Kstat 05-06-2006, 05:56 PM Five game 6's, and the home team goes 0-5?
Fucking letdown if you ask me.
Only 1 game 7. That sucks.
Black Dynamite 05-06-2006, 05:57 PM Five game 6's, only ONE of them goes to 7 games?
Fucking letdown if you ask me.
i was thinking the same thing. just minor slippage by the favorites. and worse than that only one of the game 6 closeouts was climatic.
Darth Thanatos 05-06-2006, 10:55 PM C - playoffs so far. Nothing too exciting, and most of the series are pretty forgetable(Dallas, Nets, Clippers, San Antonio, Detroit)
Kstat 05-06-2006, 10:58 PM teams with homecourt advantage are 8-0 so far.
Black Dynamite 05-06-2006, 10:59 PM teams with homecourt advantage are 8-0 so far.
so far its a good thing we got it.
Darth Thanatos 05-06-2006, 11:14 PM When the bottom half of the East is struggling to even hit .500 then that stat should be expected.

It's hard to judge. I wonder if it's because we're pulling for Detroit. Imagine a Cavs fan might judge these playoffs more generously, but for us, these playoffs don't even start until the ECF. So of course we're bored.

They were the 8th seed, butthead.
Black Dynamite 05-07-2006, 12:25 AM They were the 8th seed, butthead.
yep they were. you do realize butthead doesnt bother people. as you are still bitter about your penis envy characterization. :) its in your best interest to not show people that you're feelings are hurt grover. :(
realistic 05-18-2006, 03:54 PM These playoffs suck.
Cleveland fan: "I disagree."
BIG BEN'S FRO 05-19-2006, 01:08 AM This will be the greatest playoffs as long as we come back and win.
b-diddy 05-21-2006, 11:37 PM my two favorite playoffs (not considering pistons) were the 99 knicks making it to the finals (easily the worst finals team ever. but it was one hell of a run. LJ's 4 pt play, the "L", the "X", larry saying the only guy he respected on the spurs was avery, because "they were from the same slave plantation").
the other one was the 6ers run to the finals. 1) love AI, 2) the bizarre emergence of pat croce.
luniz 05-22-2006, 08:26 AM definitely the best playoffs in 10 years. maybe since bird & magic were still around. the cleveland-washington and dallas-san antonio series are all time greats.

cleveland/washington? Personally, I categorized that series as "What I hope the NBA never becomes". Spurs and Dallas is definitely one of the best series I've ever seen.
Tahoe 05-24-2006, 08:25 PM Is this the greatest playoffs ever?
No, fuck no. I hate em so far.
We aren't even playing our normal game. We aren't playing up to our capability.
If we are going to be someone's bitch, I want to be at our best. This team ain't no ones bitch when we are playing up to snuff. These playoffs have been frustrating as fuck.
Oh, you meant the playoffs in general? yea, they're great.
Anthony 05-24-2006, 10:25 PM Most stressfull playoffs ever. And sports talk radio and reading this forum is so fucking depressing.
