Pharaoh 05-01-2006, 12:45 PM Why does this thread exist?
Glenn 05-01-2006, 12:46 PM Because you hate Canada.
Pharaoh 05-01-2006, 12:51 PM lol
I hate New Zealanders more than I hate Canadians.
Research is a good thing GD
MOLA1 05-01-2006, 12:52 PM I would've swatted this, but Sarah's in there. It stays.
Pharaoh 05-01-2006, 12:56 PM I'd do Shania on one condition: She never sings again.
Glenn 05-01-2006, 12:57 PM I would've swatted this, but Sarah's in there. It stays.
She's there for you, M1.
She's like the Motherland to the north.
Always there for you.

Glenn 05-01-2006, 04:45 PM Denny, did you even look at the thread?
While those are certainly great Canadians, 3 of the 4 have already been submitted.
Don't fret though, there are plenty more worthy Canadians to replace them with.
We should turn this into a "Can anyone find a picture of Grapes where he doesn't look pimp?" thread.

I didn't see that part of your post the first time I read it (maybe an edit).
No biggie in any case, we're here to celebrate Canadians, so it wouldn't be polite to nitpick.

Fraserburn 05-01-2006, 07:07 PM Top Ten Myths About Canada and Canadians <DIV align=center>
<OL style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold; FONT-FAMILY: arial">
We live in igloos. We live in houses, and they are very well built houses.
Canadians do not have the same technology as Americans. Canadians have access to the
same technology as Americans and the rest of the civilized world.
There is snow everywhere all year long. Anyone who has spent a summer in Vancouver,
Toronto, or Montreal will strongly disagree with this.
We don't get the same movies Americans do. We get the same movies, on the same day,
and our censorship is less severe. Furthermore, the Paramount theater in Montreal is
the most attended and most lucrative movie theater in North-America.
Canada does not have a film industry. We have a thriving film industry, and many of the
syndicated US TV shows, not to mention major studio motion pictures are filmed here. Canada is
renowned to have some of the best production crews in the world.
Canadians all say "eh" and "aboot". Sure, some of us do, but Canada is a big country with
many different people who speak many different languages with different dialects.
Everyone in Quebec speaks French. Although a large percentage of the Province's
population is Francophone, there is also a large number of Anglophones and Allophones.
Canadians have fewer guns than Americans. Canadians have just as many, if not more; we just
have fewer murders. If you want stats and figures, see Michael Moore's excellent documentary, Bowling for Columbine.
Canada's national sport is Hockey. Not completely true. While Hockey is very popular, and considered
our national pastime, our national sport is Lacrosse. Oh, and we invented Baseball too.
<FONT face=Arial size=2><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt">In 1994, the Federal Government introduced Bill C-212 that officially made Hockey
Fraserburn 05-01-2006, 07:09 PM http://particle.physics.ucdavis.edu/Graphics/Canada/Naismith.gifJames Naismith (1861-1939)
inventor of the sport of basketball
born in Almonte (http://geonames2.nrcan.gc.ca/cgi-bin/sima_unique_v3?english?FACQF?C), Ontario
educated at McGill University (http://www.mcgill.ca/) and Presbyterian College in Montreal (http://geonames2.nrcan.gc.ca/cgi-bin/sima_unique_v3?english?EHHUN?C)
taught physical education from 1887 to 1890 at McGill University, and from 1890 to 1895 at the YMCA Training School (now Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts
in 1891, aided by the American physical-education specialist Luther Halsey Gulick, he invented basketball as an indoor sport. Naismith developed the game as an activity for his students during the harsh winter months.
director of physical education at the YMCA in Denver (1895-1898) and at the University of Kansas (1898-1937)
Naismith was voted to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959; officially called the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, the institution was named in his honor and is located in Springfield
in 1978 he was also inducted into a Basketball Hall of Fame in Almonte, Ontario

Fraserburn 05-01-2006, 07:10 PM http://particle.physics.ucdavis.edu/Graphics/Canada/Orr.jpegBobby Orr (1948- )
hockey player, who showed that the defensive line could also be an offensive force
born Robert Gordon Orr in Parry Sound (http://geonames2.nrcan.gc.ca/cgi-bin/sima_unique_v3?english?FDSUS?C), Ontario
signed to an amateur contract by the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL) when he was 14
after an outstanding performance in junior league hockey in Canada, he became a professional for the Bruins in the 1966-67 season, winning the Calder Trophy as the league's best rookie
won the Norris Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL's best defenseman, and was named a first-team all-star for eight consecutive years (1968-75)
during this period he expanded the role of the defensive line by leading offensive charges down the ice and captured the league scoring title in 1970 and 1975
the Bruins won the Stanley Cup in 1970 and 1972, and Orr received the Smythe Trophy both years as the outstanding player in the playoffs
the picture above shows Bobby Orr, number 4, scoring the fourth goal, during the fourth period (overtime), of the fourth game of the 1972 Stanley Cup playoffs. This goal won the series. He was tripped by player number 4
although plagued by knee injuries that required frequent operations, Orr was still an attraction when he became a free agent after the 1975-76 season. He signed with the Chicago Blackhawks, but his injured knee prevented him from being effective
retired in 1979
elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979

Glenn 05-02-2006, 07:53 AM WTF is it with Glenn and Canada??
The contributions of the great people of Canada have long been overlooked, even mocked. This is my little way of paying homage to some proud people from a proud land.
This tribute can also be viewed as an olive branch, and maybe even a recruiting initiative of sorts to reach the largely untapped poster market for Detroit sports fans that is Windsor, Ontario. (Also, it's a schtick.)
Nice contributions, Fraser.
God bless the Queen!!
