Kings provide a lot of matchup problems.

Bibby is a better PG than Parker and will put him to work on both ends. No one on the Spurs will be able to guard the Jailthug or Artest; they're both very strong, physical, and have nice strokes. Sacramento also has big men who can shoot, pass, and rebound. Arco is also a difficult place to win since Artest came.

Too bad Nazr, Horry, and Duncan will dominate them on the glass, which will be the difference in this series. The Kings big men are all undersized and/or soft.

Kings will win a few games, but they're not tough enough inside to beat San Antonio.

Spurs in 7.

Anthony

The kings can make this a hell of a series. If Brad Miller can take advantage of Timmy's foot problems, and Artest will have his way with Manu, this could go 6 or 7, hell, the kings can win with a little luck on their side

Yeah, I think he was the longest active player without a playoff game.

In fact, Artest thinks the Spurs should be worried about the eighth-seeded Kings.

"I don't even think we're the underdogs any more," Artest said. "I think we're the team to beat, just by how we've been playing."

If the Kings had managed to get the 7th seed, I could see them in the next round. People seem to forget that San Antonio, despite the lack of media love, had a hell of a season. They'll win this one in at most 6 games, probably 5.

Pharaoh

But the Spurs aren't in top form and I could see them losing a game or 2.

The Kings have really turned things around.

Artest and Bonzi pose all kinds of problems for the Spurs and I don't think Manu can handle either of them.

All they did was have their guards (mostly tony) drive the lane and kick out to corner threes or have Tony hit those wide open layups. Then they do Duncan post ups where he takes it for himself or, again, kicks out to three point shooters. That is their game. They just weren't missing today. It was pretty typical Spurs stuff.

They did show their depth though. All of their reserves were hitting shots.

Pharaoh

On the one hand it's good to see the Spurs hot now - chances are they're not gonna be hot the whole way.

On the other hand I thought the Kings could still provide more of a problem.

Game 2 will be interesting though. I wonder how the Kings will respond and how Artest is gonna react.

Black Dynamite
04-23-2006, 09:21 AM
the kings were terrible gameplan wise. parker cant guard bibby. they should be torching him until the spurs feel forced to put bowens on him. And on defense artest is too slow for manu. but he'll find a way around that if the refs dont call it too tight. Either way like i said before, its one game. all they have to do is win game two to flip the script sideways.

Pharaoh
04-23-2006, 09:38 AM
Yeah Gutz, it's all "one game" at the moment, but an ass kicking like this is surprising.

Do you think Bull fans are sitting around saying "It's just one game"?

No! They're saying "We can take these fucks"

One game doesn't make a series, but it can give or kill confidence. The Spurs will be flying high right now and it's up to the Kings to respond.

I have no doubt Artest will go balls out in G2, but the rest of those guys need to step up and play with some pride or it's gonna be over quickly.

Anthony
04-23-2006, 11:46 AM
Kings need to use Big Nasty more. Outside of Bowen, I cant think of a soul that can guard him on the Spurs.

Pharaoh
04-23-2006, 12:10 PM
Fuck Corliss.

Where was Bonzi Wells? Too quiet, especially when you consider he'd cause match-up nightmares for Manu.

If Parker guards Bibby and Bowen guards Artest then why isn't Bonzi abusing Manu?

Same up front - Miller, SAR and Kenny Thomas need to make Duncan, Horry and those bum bigs work.

Run some pick and pop plays to get Duncan out of the paint. Post Bonzi on Manu or Artest on Bowen.

The Kings have the players to cause the Spurs problems and while they aren't as deep and don't have the "team experience" San Antonio has they can and should perform better.

I'd be pissed if I was a King fan

Black Dynamite
04-23-2006, 01:47 PM
corliss should've played over bonzi. he was so bad out there it was sad. he also looks a lil pudgy.

Pharaoh
04-24-2006, 11:46 AM
So you think playing Corliss is a good move?

Does Robert Horry still play for the Spurs or is he off re-shooting scenes for a summer blockbuster?

I'm willing to guess Horry would guard him well and the Kings offense would scream to a halt with Big (Old) Nasty in the game.

They need to get Bonzi more involved IMO. Post him or Artest and draw Duncan and Nazr (or Rasho) out of the paint.

Sacramento’s Ron Artest Suspended

NEW YORK, April 24, 2006 – Ron Artest of the Sacramento Kings has been suspended one game without pay for making forearm contact to the head of Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Senior Vice President Basketball Operations.

The incident occurred with 9:07 remaining in the third period of the Spurs’ 122-88 win over the visiting Kings at AT&T Center on April 22. Artest will miss Game 2 of the series, which will be played at the AT&T Center on Tuesday, April 25.

I hate sticking up for Manu as much as anybody, and ROn Artest is one of my favorite players.

However, when you compare the two plays, Manu's was clearly unintentional, and Ron's was clearly intentional.

Manu got what he deserved (an offensive foul), and so did Ron (a suspension).

The way ron tried to get away with it was probably worse than just elbowing him face-to-face. It was a total cheap shot to manu's head when Manu wasn't paying attention.

Black Dynamite
04-24-2006, 06:20 PM
manu does that shit all the time though. maybe it was unintentional(though i dont think it was), but he is still at fault playing that wreckless flailing flop style as he does. Of course he always falls back on the unintentional "thats just how i play" excuse. so much so that i think it is. but whatever though. im not a fan of either guy.

I hate the way he plays, but he has to deal with the fact he inflicts punishment on himself as well.

you'd think he does. but not as much as other people. wade does alot of the same unfundamentally sound garbage. but he actually hurts himself more than others. probally because of less elbow usage. [smilie=arrgh.jpg]

Bucher just made a good point on ESPN radio (for a change).

Artest wasn't even guarding Manu, he stepped out and intentionally and deliberately intended to injure Floppobili.

But the fact that he went to his head sealed the suspension.

He also noted that the NBA is sending a message with RonRon and the Mexican early in the playoffs so everybody knows that they aren't going to let things get carried away later on.

The way Manu goes around Brad Miller pisses me off alone. It's come to a point where players have ti tip-toe around him because they know he'll go flying if they get anywhere near him.

It's obviously a little shot, but there is a lot of flop in it as well. Fine him 5K and be done with it. This is the playoffs. Tell him behind the scenes that he'll be ejected and suspended if he pulls anything again.

Yeah, minus their two best defenders now, Sacramento is fucked.

Im still in shock that barry 3 got that insanely lucky bounce.

Bibby should get his head out of his ass and start shooting. Rahim isnt going to beat anybody taking 15-footers.

Kstat

Yep.

If they lose this game, its all on Bibby.

He's the one that cant hit a shot, he's the one thats usually causing the defensive fuckups (like the last barry 3).

It all goes on him if/when they lose.

WTF! I stopped watching.

Spurs were up 1 with 10 seconds left and 8 on the shot clock.

Manu brings duncan out 40 feet for a pick and roll.

Manu tries to split the defenders and Bibby rips the ball away.

The Kings race down the floor and Martin throws up a shot at the rim over duncan with 1 second left and it bounces on the rim for 1 1/2 seconds before dropping in at the buzzer. Kings win.

The Kings have TWO guys that the Spurs can't stop defensively in Artest and Bonzi.

Plain and simple, San Antonio is not used to having to double-team ONE guy. Two? This is new territory for them.

I'm looking on SA's bench, and I dont see one physical or long defender in the bench. Theyre all rail-thin jumpshooers.

Robert Horry is probably Popp's last resort option at guarding ARtest.

Since Artest came back from his suspension, Manu Ginobili is averaging 5.5 ppg and 4 turnovers on %30.7 shooting.

Quite literally, Artest has Manu locked up. He's isn't even a factor anymore in this series.

That makes 4 series tied 2-2. I hope it stops there.

Brent's involved a hell of a lot more luck. Players hit layups like that all the time. How many times have you seen a corner three back-then-front rim, hit close to the top of the backboard and going in?

Either way, I don't by into this "you stole one, we stole one" crap. This series could be 3-1 Kings if not for a crazy bounce on a three. Period. And I still think it cost the Kings the series. I highly doubt the Spurs lose with HCA.

Great series so far for Bonzi, but would anyone take a chance signing him to a 5-year contract?

I'm sure teams will be lining up to get him, but before the playoffs he wasn't exactly the kind of guy you want to sign.

Is this the ultimate contract push (ala Jerome James)?

Is Bonzi (in his prime) capable of producing like this for the next few years?

Gm's are gonna have to answer that this off-season.

(NOTE: I wouldn't mind having him here. Delfino seems more comfortable playing a PG/SG role anyway. With Bonzi at SG/SF we'd be fine. Evans? Who?)
