I like Rich Franklin. He's the best middleweight in the world right now.

DynamiteK

nah dude, Ace is good but Pride fc > UFC

i'd bet money that someone like Wanderlei Silva or Mirko Cro Cop would make short work of him.

partially right. Preid is better than UFC...............in the Heavyweight division. They're about even in the middleweight and lightheavyweight dicvisions. To be honest, I don't even know who's in the Pride welterweight division, so I can't judge. Rich has the hands of a golden gloves boxer, but also has amazing ground skills, from working with his best friend Jorge Gurgel. I don't know of any other middleweight like that.

man i remember seeing early ufc when the weight divisions werent as defined. man i saw some knockouts that looked like the guy had brain damage. one guys hands went stiff in the air and his legs were shaking like heck. fucked up. but nothing was better than watching Ken Shamrock got to work. Dude was the original submission master. I loved his " mounted pound your face bloody until you submit" move.

DynamiteK

Yeah Ken Shamrock was awesome, and so was his brother Frank too.

Rich Franklin was really impressive knocking out Ken Shamrock, but other than Shamrock i don't he's faced any other champion-quality fighters. I watch both the ufc and pride fc, and still think that thus far pride has the better fighters.

So far, UFC fighters that have switched over to Pride fc have not had much success against Pride competition.

Chuck Liddell, the current ufc champ was beaten by Quinton Jackson (referee stoppage),
and none of the ufc hall of famers have winning records against pride fighters-
Ken Shamrock has a 1-3 record, Royce Gracie was defeated by Kazushi Sakuraba, and Dan Severn's only fight was a draw.

pride fighting is a different environment and the rules arent really that linear with ufc. and in this sport, losing your comfort zone can cause a slip in concentration, leading to a severe asswhooping. And i hated seeing shamrock lose the recent fights. but he was older and not as quick as he used to be. But the UFc owes its continued existence to shamrock. he had some element to him that gravitated fans to the early UFC that might not have watched it otherwise. In fact outside of a couple matches, every early fight besides his were kinda boring.

Crocop is a beast. gotta love his high kick.

I am more of a Pride person than k1. That korean guy in k1 is very overrated here in Korea. thoughts about him?

Bob Sapp woulda took mixed martial arts to the mainstream if he didnt have such a glass jaw. though he seems at home in pride fighting.

Rich Franklin is pretty damn solid

I like Forrest Griffin a bit too

kdawg32086

Franklin has also fought Evan Tanner and David Louiseau. Tanner is a solid fighter. He knocked the fuck out of Pride's Phil Baroni, in the UFC. I mean, Tanner isn't great, but he's a very good fighter overall. And Louiseau is a top 5 middleweight worldwide.

If Frank Mir hadn't gotten in an accident a couple years ago, he'd be Fedor's main competition for top Heavyweight in the world. Lets face it. Arlovski and Sylvia blow.

I hate wrestling. He does too. Fuck submission. Knock motherfuckers out!
It's the same reason that I really like the Iceman. They know how to fight.
I've seen this dude a couple times. He's a beast man. A fuckin beast.

DynamiteK

i totally agree. I remember there was a time when Gracie fanboys of the UFC completely wrote off kicking above the waist being possibly effective in MMA. CropCop has proved all the haters wrong!

Chuck Liddell is so overated. He's a one-dimensional fighter who hasn't had a fight worth mentioning in 3 years. Stick him in Pride and make him fight every 3 months and we'll talk. Exciting or not, grappling and submission fighting are the bases of every effective martial art out there. We'll probably never see a true one-sided champion again, but if we did it definitely wouldn't be a boxer or kick boxer.

Chuck Liddell is so overated. He's a one-dimensional fighter who hasn't had a fight worth mentioning in 3 years.
If you kick ass at that dimension, who gives a fuck?

I have all trained in Tae Kwon Do, Hapki Do, Boxing, Kickboxing -
both American and Muay Thai. NoQuarter and Dynamite K are pretty
similar. If I had to guess, they've taken more Kung Fu and less
boxing than me, but that's about it. But all of these arts are
based on standing up and going for yours for the most part.

Do I believe that knowing more than one form of fighting is most effective?
OF COURSE! My whole thing is if you grab me, I'll break your arm, kick you,
punch you, headbutt you, knee you, throw you or break free depending
on the situation and where my leverage or opening is. If I get pinned down,
I don't have to wrestle back. I can get my way out by either striking or
using your power against you. If you are truly a good fighter in your
respective art, you can use what you know without even thinking about it.

I watch far too many bad matches on this UFC, Pride fighting, K1 shit and
it becomes painfully obvious to me that most boxers would eat these cats
up because they know how to strike. It's the #1 reason I can't watch that
shit too often. If you grab me and give me an armbar a choke of some sort
or a cute pin move where I'll be down, I'm going to be able to do something
about it. But if I can throw a nice hook, a strong kick or a powerful knee to
you in a vital place like the throat, the eyes, the stomach or even the jaw,
it's going to be a quick match.

UFC 61 was a joke and a ripoff. Wanderlei Silva will fight Chuck Liddell in November. Anderson Silva will be challenging Rich Franklin in the near future. A fight between Matt Hughes and Georges St. Pierre is gonna take place soon. And last but not least, Tim Sylvia called out Jeff "The Snowman" Monson, after Sylvia beat Andre Arlovski.

Sad to say, but UFC has only 4 quality heavyweights. Mir, Arlovski, Sylvia, and Monson. They need to bring back guys like Cabbage and Ricco Rodriguez.

UxKa

yeah the only good fight in ufc 61 was the first one. pride is much better and most guys in ufc dont have winning records in pride.
